Sometimes the darkest evils hide in plain sight

Everyone thought The Cabal was dead, his empire decimated.

But when Rupert Haversham, lawyer to the city's criminal underworld, is found brutally murdered in his London home, it becomes apparent to Jake Tanner that's no longer the case.

The Cabal is very much alive, pulling the strings, disposing of those closest to the truth.

Including Jake.

With everything they’ve got.

But now he's fighting back. And this time, to catch The Cabal, Jake realises he must step outside the law if he wants to reveal the evil behind the mask.

And to end this once and for all.

I’m Jack Probyn, and I write murder mysteries and crime thrillers set in England. I studied Creative Writing at the University of Surrey and have always been fascinated by storytelling, particularly the dark and twisty kind.

I’m the author of the DC Jake Tanner series and the DS Tomek Bowen series, both packed with suspense, mystery, and unexpected twists. I have enjoyed reading the final book in which Jack Tanner has gone about trying to figure out who The Cabal was, even while causing him and his family much anguish along the way. It has been a roller coaster ride for the readers of Jack Probyn's stories in this series of action packed happenings with interesting characters. A very intriguing ending as well.
I am an ARC reader and very grateful.

I have read all the books in the Jake Tanner series and this is by far the best one. Jake is on the verge of losing everything and he finds out that the Cabal is not dead as he originally thought. The action is non-stop and kept me glued to my seat, turning the pages frantically to find out what was next for Jake. Who could the Cabal possibly be? I would highly recommend this series. I received an advance copy of this book from the author and this is my honest review.

First quarter of the book is gritty, realistic, no holds on Jake's problems. And right now he's ticking me off! I truly could slap him 'upside the head' as my dad used to say!!

Half way through I'm worried sick Jake is going to die
The action just doesn't stop! And it makes sense! This is killing me, another 100 pages to go!! End this, my gawd

The last half just had me guessing and worrying. I couldn't stop reading

This is the sixth and final 'episode' in the series and what a tremendous ride it it!!

I knew who the CABAL was ... actually I knew THREE times, only to be proven wrong each and every time.

Even when Michelle tells Jake the "big clue" (no spoiler, so feel free to read on), which narrowed it down, I was still wrong.

The absolute best of the series, and that it not taking anything away from the others.

You will enjoy the roller-coaster ride right to the ultimate end!!

Jake Tanner feels the Cabal is finished since the person he felt was the Cabal is dead. But he is wrong. They want to get Jake out of the picture. The person at the head of the Cabal is a huge surprise. Very suspenseful and fast moving thriller.

I received this book as an Arc from the author and I’m writing a review because I want to. A man believes he has successfully brought down a sinister organization. To his dismay. The person he thought was the leader is still in power. It’s a twisty thriller. Highly recommended!

What an intriguing last book. Jack Tanner as always is on the job, only it’s really difficult this time. Fast paced, plenty of suspense and action to make this a superb story.

Wowsers! This is the last in the DC Jake Tanner series &, to be honest, I’m almost pleased - I don’t think my heart could take much more. This has been a fabulous series & I would highly recommend that you start at the beginning & immerse yourself in all things Jake.

Tanner’s nemesis, The Cabal, is dead & his corrupt empire has been scattered to the four winds. But when the criminal world’s go to lawyer is found brutally murdered at home, Jake realises this is not the case & that The Cabal is alive & kicking. Kicking hard. Putting himself at risk, Jake knows he has to go all out & cross that invisible line.

Of course I was rooting for Jake, we’ve come so far together, but the pace of the writing wore me out, goodness knows how he felt. Oh yeah, he’s not real! A brilliant end to this series; read it & then start the author’s new one, you won’t regret it.

The 6th book in the series and it’s a belter!

Jake is still living apart from his wife and kids and his marriage is in total turmoil! A high profile solicitor and his family are murdered and Jack had only seen him that day! Is there any way back? Events lead Jack to believe that the Cabal is still alive and nothing will stop him from finding them, not even being stabbed. Add into the mix a prison escape and a false murder accusation and things become really tough for Jake! Until he’s given a helping hand from an unlikely source! Fast paced and highly recommended.

Wow, well Jack certainly has done it again with this brilliant page turner of a book.
Certainly a fabulous end to the series and the start of a new one.
A very cleverly written plot and gripping storyline with many twists turns and what revelations. At last the Cabal is revealed and that brings closure or does it.
Certainly a very gripping and captivating read from beginning to end and well worth reading.
My thanks to the Author for my advanced copy this is my honest unbiased review.

Jack Proby does it again. This book is gripping from the first page. So many twists and turns. Just when you think you've solved the mystery something else happens. Absolutely brilliant!!!

To quote a line from the book:
‘This is beginning to sound like the plot of a thriller. And quite a good one.’

I can't recommend Jack's books highly enough. If you enjoy a good thriller with lots of twists and turns these are the books for you. Start at book one. You won't be disappointed.
