Gabriella Poole is a pseudonym used by Gillian Philip.

I live in the north-east highlands of Scotland, with one husband, two children, three dogs (Cluny, Milo and Otto), two psychotic cats (the Ghost and the Darkness), a slayer hamster (Buffy), three chickens (Mapp, Lucia and Mrs Norris) and a lot of nervous fish. I have taken a solemn vow not to get any more pets. I will probably break this vow.

Writing for a living is (a) what I always wanted to do; (b) occasionally frustrating; (c) a lot of fun – I take dictation from the characters in my head, who spend their lives telling me what’s going to happen next.

But I like it that I never know just how it’s all going to end – not till the fat lady sings, the villain meets a suitably sticky end, and the boy gets the girl (or indeed the boy).

As well as full-length books, I write fiction for secondary Key Stage 3. Life Of The Party, Mind’s Eye, Sea Fever and Cyber Fever have been published by Evans Brothers, and short stories The Changeling, Rockface, Misty and The Kindest Cut appear in their sci fi, crime, ghost and comedy collections. And I ghostwrite fiction for companies including Hothouse and Working Partners.

Nothing is like the same and it never will be. Cassie is trying to forget all about Ranjit. He has let her down too many times and he's been acting all weird lately. So, she doesn't want to waste more time on him. She's done and wants to move on without him. She is also worried about her friend, and Isabella's boyfriend, Jake, who's been gone from the Academy since last term when he walked away from them in anger. She hasn't seen him since and that makes her feel bad. But at least she has her roomie Isabella and Richard to spend her days with.

In this term, the Dark Academy is in Istanbul and Cassie thinks it's a fantastic and beautiful city. There is a lot to discover. But the city doesn't feel safe when some students suddenly disappears and makes the rest of the students worried and scared. What's going on. And The Few (a group of the most respected, beautiful and the best students) is worried when they don't get to know more than their fellow students. 'Cause they are sure that Sir Alric Darke knows what's going on or know something he won't tell - but why doesn't he share it with them? The Few is students that Sir Alric Darke trust the most and the same the other way around. But when Sir Alric Darke hardly mention anything about the situation about the missing students, the Few gets very worried and demands to know what the hell is going on.

Cassie gets more and more worried when Ranjit is one of the students that doesn't show up. He's known for skipping classes and can be gone for days before he comes back - but he always come back sometime, but when he's gone longer than usual - she's almost sure that something is wrong. But should she really care since Ranjit has let her down so many times and has moved on without him, or at least tried. And what is Isabella, her roomie and best friend, keeping away from her? She is pretty sure that Isabella is having a secret about something but what? Cassie feels like she can't trust anyone anymore. Will everything turn back to normal or will everything get worse?

Blood Ties is the third book (and hopefully not the last!) book in the series. It took me a long time to get into the urban fantasy genre. After I read the first book of Twilight (which was really bad and boring) I just got fed up about modern vampires and other supernatural beings. But after a year or two I wanted to go back to the genre and hopefully find something new and different. Something fascinating. And I did. I discovered the book covers of the Darke Academy one day earlier this year at a book store and I thought the covers looked really cool and the books sounded interesting. I ended up buying the two books in the series to see if I enjoyed and get number three later. And to my surprise. I got really hooked!

When I was done with the first book "Secret Lives" I was glad to have book two "Blood Ties" nearby And when I was in the middle of book two I just had to get number three. I have just fell in love with the characters, especially Cassie, Sir Alric Duke, and Richard. They are loveable characters even though they are extremely different.

Even though I had kind of figured out what was going to happend at the end of Divided Souls, I wasn't dissapointed. I got more dissapointed to know that book four isn't published yet but I hope it will happen. 'Cause I'm totally in love with this series and there's so much more I want to know about many characters and their situations. So, I hope this is not the end for Darke Academy. I would like to be a student there myself.

So, if you haven't read the Darke Academy yet, I highly recommend you to. It's a great series and a mysterious world to eascape in. I easily forgot the time and place when I read it and before I knew it. It was over. Now I'm crossing my fingers and hoping there will come more books from this series. It can't be over yet.

i dont really know how i feel about this series. at first, i thought it was about vampires. but turn out different. it was okay actually. but i kind of disappointed.
i like the ending. but, there're too many dead students. there're some unanswered questions.such as: first, what is the relationship between Ranjit's and Cassie's demon or souls?? then, what happen to Ranjit?? How is Isabell after Jake's dead?? why Darke forbidden Ranji and Cassie's relationship?
although I prefer Cassie with Jake than Ranjit or Richard. hehehe
I hope there's the last book that explaine everything.

Zároveň som musela uznať veľké plus autorke, že ma takto vtiahla do príbehu, dovolila mi obľúbiť si hrdinov a potom mi naservírovala balíček kapesníkov.
Ktorí ešte nezačali - mali by ste to napraviť.

This was just ok, its the 3rd book in the series and i have read them all. The 1st book was ok, 2nd book was a step up with a good storyline but its back to just being ok with the 3rd. The majority of the book was boring and only picked up speed in the last few chapters, i liked the ending but that was about it. I didnt 'feel for' the characters and by the 3rd book i should, i didnt care that they were both pining for there exes and when they were having their 'moments' with said exes i didnt care again which is really unusual for me because i like to feel how they feel, the chemistry and emotions especially in the relationships but it just wasnt happening. There is a hint of a bigger series spanning storyline but that should have been well established by now and the whole absorbing the life force and old spirit sharing the mind/body isnt very interesting and sometimes i was confused as to who was speaking in that body cassie or estelle .I only read these because my sister buys them and we read each others books otherwise i would have probably gave them a miss.

Ok... how should I put it. The ending was ok. I'm not sure if this series is halted/discontinued or this is really the final book. But if it does, what a shame. I didn't like it. You know what my least favorite ending - open ended. And this one is one is one of them. I really like if there's some resolution with story. So I was kinda upset... and disappointed.

And we are heading for the finish. The plot it drawing together, and people are dying. I was actually a little shocked about how all this turned out and it kept me nicely entertained.

Again, Cassie and I do not gel. Her thought process at the end defies all logic and I want to grab her by the arms and shake her and her beliefs and inability to think about anyone but herself.

Už len to stretnutie s riaditeľom, by ma asi odhovorilo a nehovorím ani o tom, čo všetko sa tam už odohralo. Prečo by som v tom mala hľadať logiku? Rozprávajúci vlk všetkých zje - príde poľovník - rozreže mu bruchu - všetkých zachráni - vlkovi tam nahádže kamene a tie ho nakoniec prevalia do studne.

On je tiež jeden z prípadov, keď neviem, kde si ho mám zaradiť. Do akej kategórie.

Ide priamo k veci.
Čo ju napadne to tam dá a nijako nerieši detaily a súvislosti. Veľmi slabo využitý potenciál Vyvolených a ich samotné bytie. I keď sme mali možnosť v tomto diely nazrieť trocha do ich histórie, ani tak som im viac neporozumela. Pri tejto histórií mi napadla jedna myšlienka. Prečo vlastne Vyvolení chodia stále do školy, keď majú v sebe tých starých duchov. Veď oni hádam všetko už musia vedieť a hlavne o tej histórií?

A evitar.

At the end of Blood Ties, Cassie had started to adapt to her new found status as a member of the Few. Isabelle had chosen to be her life source and she was learning to control Estelle’s evil machinations to make her whole again. Jake’s mysterious disappearance led them to an old enemy, Katerina and Cassie was able to thwart their plans to feed Jake to the Living Soil when she allowed the missing part of Estelle to enter her body. A furious Jake left them when he learned that Isabelle was Cassie’s life source. Ranjit also dealt Cassie a blow when he revealed that their spirits share a treacherous history and it’s too dangerous for them to pursue a relationship. In Divided Souls, the third installment of the Darke Academy series, the students see the Academy move to Istanbul. Cassie and Isabelle are both suffering from the after affects of their broken relationships and try to console each other. Cassie is stunned when Ranjit after weeks apart declares his loves for her and claims he’s found a way for them to be together.

Soon after members of the Few start turning up dead and Ranjit too seems to have disappeared. Cassie begins to suspect Jake’s involvement as he still has the knife capable of killing the Few in his possession. This theory brings her at odds with Isabelle who has been secretly communicating with Jake behind Cassie’s back. When Isabelle moves out of their dorm, Cassie feels isolated and finds solace with Richard who still appears to have feelings for her. Before long Cassie finds herself torn between Richard and Ranjit as well as her loyalty towards her best friends and the Few. Who is the killer stalking the Few and what is Sir Alric hiding?

This book wasn’t as good as the first two books although it did offer more insight into the Darke Academy’s origins. While the plot with the mystery stalker killing members of the Few was interesting, some of the relationship angst was a trifle boring. I was shocked when the culprit turned out to be Ranjit of all people although in hindsight I should have guessed earlier due to Ranjit’s uncharacteristic behaviour. Cassie lacked the maturity to realise Ranjit’s feelings for her at times despite his attempts to make her understand. It’s tragic that Ranjit’s pursuit for a remedy came at such great cost. I had suspected Jake as the killer. Jake’s death however was tragic even though his blind hatred towards the Few had driven him beyond reason at times.

One of the highlights of the book was that we got to see more of Richard and get to know him better. When Ranjit revealed that Richard had diverted him on the night he was supposed to meet Jessica I was appalled although I’d long suspected that Richard had been the culprit. Richard’s assertion that he was unaware of Katerina and Keiko’s plans for Jessica redeemed him as he regretted what he did. I’m looking forward to seeing how the author concludes the series in the next installment, Lost Spirits.

Divided Souls is a gripping and superb continuation of the Darke Academy series!
Set in the largest, most historic and exciting city of Istanbul, Turkey it follows scolarship girl, Cassie, on the thrilling adventure of a lifetime. I

n the end of her first term at the Darke Academy she was implanted with a donor's soul against her will but the ceremony was interuppted part way through and now she is trapped as being part 'few' for the rest of her life. Being stuck with another bitchy and VERY opinionated woman inside your head isn't easy and even becomming overly attractive and gaining powerful connections often can't compensate for the frustrating Estelle.

This is Cassie's third term at the academy and with her best friend Isabella by her side, she can take on anything, except facing her brooding yet charming and breath-taking ex boyfriend Ranjit Singh that is.

Gabriella Poole continues to take you on the roller-coaster journey and certainly keeps everything interesting. She opens in a really enticing way that I really enjoyed, it left me wanting to see why the characters were in the position in which they were.
From the first few opening scenes I reconnected with the characters immediately, it was as though being reunited with old friends.

The style in which the Darke Academy series is written is one that I enjoy reading, it is easy to become absorbed in the world along with the characters and the setting is both vivid and exciting.

The story line that Divided Souls follows isn't one that I found to be too Cliched in many aspects, not all, just many. The classic love triangle-esque aspect was, I thought, tastefully done and didn't drag on for too long. The love interests were handled in a tasteful and quite delicate way, which did not enter into being irritating or slutty (cheating) in any way.

If any characters annoy me from this novel it is Isabella's, I know and fully understand how unique and difficult her situation is but she really makes NO effort to fit in or to stop complaining so much about her situation. I adore Richard!! His personality is original and he is a genuinely likable character of which I cannot help but be fond of and feel sorry for. He is sweet and genuinely concerned about those that he cares about and would walk through burning fire for them.

I really found Divided Souls to be a great novel and will begin Lost Spirits ASAP

Another installment to the Darke Academy Series, Divided Souls. This novel explores further on what the Darke Academy is all about... Meanwhile while Cassie is exploring future love interests, someone is stalking the few and slaughtering them, corpses washing ashore. Is Sir Alric Darke hiding something from the students enrolled at the school? At what expense will it cost the students?

I absolutely adore this series, i have read it over and over again. I have finally got my hands on the third novel, i must mention that this novel does not disappoint! If i was so busy doing other stuff like working i would have read it in one sitting. It is fast - paced and once you reach the climax, it will leave you hanging.

I have to admit, this book made tears fall down the side of my face. It is really sad! It explores the characters in the Darke Academy further. The start is somewhat confusing but it really explains it later on, so don't give up!

******BEWARE MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!!!!*************
I Can't believe the outcome, and how far Ranjit went to saving his relationship with Cassie. I can't believe Jake is DEAD! He was one of my favourite characters and it frustrates me when Jake went by Cassie and finally understood why Cassie has to fed off non-few, and surprisingly Jake lets her fed off him! He finally shows how much he cares for Cassie and won't let her face Ranjit without him. And then he goes and dies, after their relationship is back on track and he is finally with Isabella. Poor Isabella, she has been through so much with discovering the few and dealing with Jake and finds him dead in front of her! And finally Jake came into the book and he dies! AHHH Frustrating.

Anyways i understand why, it fits perfectly. I mean Jess died without a choice, and Jake wouldn't let it happen to the one he cares about, again.

Overall, it is definately action packed and sad. I estimate there will be a forth book but it wont be the same without Jake.

It is awesome and you should give it ago. Rajit will be back, by side Cassie and will hopefully save their relationship for the better, with all the commotion, it would have too.

5 Stars - THIS SERIES NEVER DISAPPOINTS!

3.5 stars from me.

Another term at the Darke Academy and this time the coveted Academy is in Istanbul. An ancient and beautiful city but there is more than beauty to consider when you are with the Darke Academy...

At the end of the last book, we were left with Isabella choosing to be Cassie's life source and it seems at the start of the book that this arrangement seems to be perfect. However, as Cassie begins to settle at the Academy and into her role and status as one of the precious Few, Isabella and Cassie's relationship becomes more than a little strained. While Cassie is trying to deal with her newly found status, she still has broken spirit Estelle riling her up inside, her break up with Ranjit and trying to solve the mystery of who is hunting and targeting members of the Few to contend with.

Just when we think everything seems to be going alright, everything starts to slide, including at times, Cassie's self control and the weird powers she gained from the unfinished ceremony which brought her into the world of the Few.

In this book we have to deal heavily with the absence of two of my favourite characters from the last books; Ranjit and Jake. Ranjit seems as if he has made a mistake with splitting with Cassie and sets off on a mission to find a way for them to be together and Jake of course told us at the end of the last book that he was not returning to the Academy. So to be honest I felt this book lacked a little of the spark of the last two books. On the plus side Cassie's ever growing relationship with Richard seemed to progress and it provided something as an aside but it was nothing compared to the electricity between Cassie and Ranjit in the previous book. I really look forward to see where their relationship ends up.
The next Darke Academy book, which will be the forth in the series, has not been announced yet but by the shocking and emotional ending we are left with it seems certain that there will be another one. I can't wait to see where the Academy goes next and see what else is in store for Cassie, the Academy and the Few.

Když nepočítám Cassiiny myšlenky, což by možná stačilo.

"Darke Academy 3: Divided Souls" is a much better read than book two. This action packed installment has plenty of angst, drama and mystique. The only problem that I have is our heroine choice for her hero and how she allows her emotions to blind her to his overwhelming faults.

In term three, Cassie and the gang travel to Istanbul minus Jake. Isabelle is miserable but does her best to move forward. Cassie on the other hand is spending more time with the Few and a chasm is growing between her and her roommate. Richard is garnering his way back into Cassie's good graces and Ranjit declares his undivided love for her. He is bound and determined to find a way for them to be together.

Meanwhile, Several Fews go missing including Ranjit. The other Few are becoming increasingly worried especially when two of the missing turn up murdered. Now Cassie is worried about Ranjit's fate; so, she begins to backtrack his activities only to discover that he has stumbled upon a terrible script destined to have a lasting negative impact. This installment provides crucial events that will change the course of the characters forever; but, not all of them will make it out alive.

While I enjoyed this read and found myself glue to the plot as events unfold, I just cannot rally behind the character of Ranjit. He is a whiny, pathetic, less than courageous little weasel unworthy of Cassie's time. When he called Cassie Jessica, I was too through with him Although, I will admit that I was not always enamoured with Cassie in this book as well. She was self centered and oblivious to her roommate's pain and quite frankly, Isabelle is the best of the best.

There is only one book left in this series; so, I must finish the journey I began; but, in the end I must admit that while this series began with a bang it quickly turned into a slow burning sizzle. It's rather a bit disappointing really.

I finished this book at exactly 2:00am in the morning. This book is a cliff hanger! I seriously wanna know where Ranjit is! Seriously, I'm disappointed with Ranjit, she's so obsess with him and Cassandra being together again! He found the pendant which transforms him into a monster-like or something.
description
And he run away? Why would he do that? Cassandra didn't run away when she killed Keiko or even Vaughan! That is SO unfair. And I'm so glad that Jake is dead, no offence Isabella, but I really am glad. He's really annoying since the second book and Isabella, she's starting to annoy me to, but yeah. At the start, I'm getting bored because Cassie is very stubborn. She's forcing herself to forget Ranjit and she promised to herself that they will not be together, but in the end, she said the they WILL be together. That is so weird! I was like:

And Richard, love, why so charming? I wish you could just end up with Cassie if Ranjit is being a stupid guy again. But I ship Cassie-Ranjit with all my heart!
description
Oh! And Sir Alric Darke! He's so freaking unpredictable! He's so mysterious and I have so many questions running in my head. If he won't answer Cassie, why would he answer me? Btw, I found he good-looking too. Overall, this book is so amazing! I feel empty when I finish it! I want to read the fourth book now! 5 stars for you, Ms. Gabriella! You're very inspiring and you're a great author!

Ya know, if MY highschool had changed locations to different countries every semester, than I'd have been much more encouraged to pay attention in my classes. Just sayin'.

Divided Souls was just as awesome as the previous two books. I really loved the setting, the mystery, and the new romance. It was a fairly quick read and I enjoyed every page of it. Although I had already figured out a couple things, especially what Ranjit was planning to do, this series never fails to excite me.

Cassie was a bit...meh...here. I mean, she kept trying to include Isabella into all of the Few hang outs but never once stopped to think whether Isabella WANTS to be there, especially since she clearly doesn't like them. I'm glad Cassie is accepting her status now without going all snobby, but she could of thought more about how her friend might feel. I was SO happy that there was a lot more of Richard in this book. I seriously love him. He's just so...gah! What he said to Cassie near the end...*faints*. And Ranjit was just mad (as in crazy). He didn't appear all that much but when he did, he just wasn't himself. I'm really starting to dislike him. He may not be acting like this on purpose, but I haven't seen one good quality in him. Besides his hotness. I just don't understand how Cassie can choose HIM and not Richard. GAH! >.<

This is a good, fun series and I cannot wait for the next book. Haven't heard any news on a fourth book, but here's hoping there is one!
