When Payton stumbles across an old, abandoned castle, it seems to be the perfect refuge she needs to escape her dark past. The place she needs to heal and find herself again. With the Gargoyles on the turrets watching over her, she finally feels safe. Protected. That is, until she starts finding strange things throughout the castle and the very beings that she feels drawn to seem to start moving. Watching her. Waiting. There is no way that is possible though. Was there? An attack from a werewolf pack sent to hunt her down proves that not only was it a possibility, but her new reality. The gargoyles were not only protecting her but wanted to claim her for their own. Would she be able to trust her newfound saviors, and her own heart to pass the trial? Or would she fail the test, and be turned to stone forever?
Wicked Stone is a standalone RH gargoyle story. I loved Peyton (FMC). She was sweet and sassy even with everything she went through in this book. She's on the run at the start of this book hiding from the backlash of events that have happened in her life when she seeks refuge in a castle. Unaware it is protected by Gargoyles - Donnovan, Aiden, Callen and Brax. The relationship between Peyton and the guys was an endearing one as well as steamy as hell. Overall it was a pretty great read and one I really liked reading
Loved the premise, but it fell a little flat for me. I didn't like how little interaction the fmc had with the guys before they were dating how important they were to each other, because we never got the chance to see it develop. I would have loved to see some more getting to know you time/courtship/ dating type stuff before they suddenly couldn't live without each other. I also would have loved more chapters in the guys' POVs because most of them were the fmc and I needed to see both sides of the developing relationship to believe in it that fast. The ending felt rushed and honestly I skimmed through the one and only spicy scene because the words used were very redundant and had no emotional connection, it was just s*x. If that was a pivotal moment in their relationship, I would have loved more tension right before and to have experienced a greater depth of everything while it was happening so that I knew how the characters were connecting. Spelling of Myriam kept changing, and it bothered me that the fmc never talked about showering or finding new clothes after running away from home with no belongings. And maybe I'm being picky, but I thought when the guys got the curse broken there should have been more amazement, more transition time if it had been so long since having full access to their human bodies again. They jumped right into making dinner and I feel like I would have wanted to shower and relax with my partner or SOMETHING celebratory instead of just immediately doing mundane human things. I did enjoy the story, but it was overall just missing a lot of depth I crave in my stories!
OMG, where to start with this book? This is my first book that I’ve read by Everly but rest assured it most certainly will not be my last. I absolutely loved this novel. It wasn’t anything I was expecting… I mean really Gargoyles and a human? Well I’m here to tell you that she pulled it off with ease!
We meet Peyton after she runs away from the werewolf pack that her father promises her to. He’s a cruel man with more jealousy running through his veins than a teenage girl. She luckily escapes from them but not before risking everything. While on the run she accidentally finds refuge in an abandoned castle, or so she thinks.
From the moment she enters the stable, strange things begin to happen and even as a powerful witch she can’t explain it. Within a matter of days she learns that the owners are a true work of magic and vows to help them escape their towers. This book has plenty of suspense, magic, wonder and oh my lord… the steam.
Loved this book and highly recommend it, but Brax is mine!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
Everly Taylor has written something that is unlike anything I have ever read. I loved the storyline, it pulled you in from the very beginning and kept you in a tight grasp to the very end. It moves along at a nice pace, making this an even more enjoyable read.
Payton is a strong kick-ass woman, who is leaving her past behind her, stumbling upon an abandoned castle in the woods. (What possible dangers could be lurking there?) As she spends more time there, the castle becomes more like home than her actual "home". The castle and its secrets are protected by stone, and the gargoyles are the protectors. You will love Payton and her strong, silent, sexy men (Aiden, Brax, Donnovan, and Cal)
This book is a must-read, with no questions. You will be sorry if you don't at least add it to your TBR list. This is my fifth book of Everly's and I have enjoyed EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect when I started this book…shifters, stone peens, magical wieners that wouldn’t break a girl. I won’t give anything away but I absolutely loved this book, honestly I’m a little miffed it’s only a standalone, but I understand not everything can be a series. Peyton is a total badass and I absolutely love her and how strong she was and oof those men she finds aren’t to shabby themselves! So if you are looking for something that is out of the realm of normal this book is 1000% for you! I never knew what was going to happen next and that cooling in a garden needs a warning label!!!
Most definitely a winner!! You will not regret reading this story!!
I really enjoyed this book about gargoyles. I had never read a book about them before and this was a good read that I was definitely glad I was able to dip my toes into. The flow of the book was good and I really enjoyed the character development individually and together.
The FMC Peyton is strong but doesn’t show it. She is also a witch, which I loved! Been a while since I read a book with a witch in it. It was nice to read something a little different. I really liked her men in the book. Let me tell you, there was spice that I enjoyed the heck out of lol. It was a really good read.
Overall, I enjoyed the story. It took me to another world. I was able to imagine the characters and places really well. I am happy that I was able to read this book.
I will never look at Gargoyles the same. Peyton is stronger than she lets on, not only as a witch but as a kick a$$ woman. She does what she needs to survive and bring her to her destiny. A castle in the woods, what could go wrong? Four impressive gargoyles standing guard; nothing ominous there. But when things start to happen that aren't explainable and then (spoiler) happens in the garden (I LOVE THIS GARDEN) things become clear and Peyton needs to make a decision. The writing style of Ms. Taylor is fun and sexy, helping to bringing her characters to life for all of ours imagination.
I genuinely believed I had read everything from this author, I love her stories and style. Imagine my surprise when I realized I had NOT read this. Also kind of thrilled me to find a new to me story from Ms. Taylor. Even better, I absolutely loved this! A standalone is a definite challenge in the RH genre, trying to develop multiple relationships, develop full characters, all of it. And this is a great example of getting it right. It was an absolute page turner and kept me engrossed from start to finish.
Brilliant read. really enjoyed this quick read. Peyton is having to run for her life, leaving her past behind she stumbles into an abandoned castle which seems more home like than her actual home. Stone protects what the castle contains and the gargoyles are the protectors. Silent, still and sexy in their own right. Peytons trouble catches up to her and she needs to learn to trust her heart. brilliant read.
I enjoyed this dark romance, fast paced, full of action and drama. Peyton is a witch who escapes after being sold to a neighbouring pack after her father’s attempt to form an alliance. She escapes and find shelter in a castle which is guarded by Gargoyles. Unbeknownst to her, they have been cursed to remain in their form until they find true love. I enjoyed this read.
I received an advanced copy of this book and am Voluntarily leaving a review
Peyton is a strong witch and she is on the run from not only wolf pack but her father as well. When she come across this mansion in the woods she doesn't know what to think. Peyton knows she can't stay long but she needs to rest. She noticed the gargoyles and remembers the story's her mom told her. Donnovan, Brax, Aiden, and Cal were cursed by a sorcerer who was made at them. When Peyton steps on to there land they don't what think of her.
These men all cursed to become gargoyles living through the centuries to guard over their castle to only become human on a full moon. Peyton is a strong witch and female who finally stands up for herself and protects herself against those that mean her harm. Not going to give away the book but it does end on a HEA and has some spicy scenes… Aiden in the library..yes please more, would have loved more of that..hehe! If you love a good monster/gargoyle love story grab it now to read
Wow, what a read. OMG, this book grabbed me and kept me reading until the end and then I needed more. It moves along at a pace which made for an enjoyable and relaxing read, speeding up and slowing down as needed. The characters are so real that you feel like you know them and you want to be there for them. This book has to be read, no doubt about it. You will not be sorry that you did.
Wonderful love story with added tails! Thoroughly enjoyed this standalone rh novel. Well written, great characters. Fairly slow burn but the scene that is there is pretty hot. Especially Brax! The ending felt a little bit rushed but still great nonetheless.
I have been looking for a good gargoyle read and I really liked this one!! I was enjoying it so much that I was super sad when if ended. I had a hard time putting this book down, I loved the characters and the story, it was so easy to just get lost in this world.
You will love Payton and her men in this spellbinding book. She is running from a dark past and she makes it to an abandoned castle where she feels safe. Now she learns that gargoyles that she felt protected her are real. This book will keep you reading and wanting more.
Wicked Stone was unlike anything I’ve ever read before! This was fresh and new for me and I loved the storyline. Peyton was a wonderful FMC and I absolutely loved Aiden, Brax, Donovan and Cal. This was a great palate cleanser for me that was sexy and imaginative.
I really enjoyed this book. While it seems it was part of a series I haven't read, its not necessary to read any of the others. This book was great just as it is. I look forward to seeing what's in store for us next from this author.
Wicked Stone is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). I loved the fairy tale aspect of the plot. It was somewhat simple and easy to predict, but I enjoyed the characters and their various personalities. Good fun.
These is a reverse harem, where the heroin need to find herself in order to free herself from her past and move on to her own life. Quick read and well written.
what an epic book! … loved Peyton and her gargoyles … things definitely hadn’t been easy for her and only stayed at the castle to recover, but what she discovered was truly fated
I am here for all the gargoyles. Peyton is running for her life when she stumbles upon a castle and only planned to stay for the night to rest and heal, but things that no one understands are set in motion and she stays. She finds more than safety, but can there be a happily ever after? I loved that this author gave us something different in the realm of paranormal. Absolutely loved this story.
