“This doesn’t have to be the end for us.” Except it was.
What did we know about happily ever after at the age of eighteen?
Mason Braxter was a football legend—destined for glory far bigger than the confines of our small town. Meanwhile, I had dreams of my own—a simpler life that included staying put and growing roots.
And all those plans of mine were going splendidly.
Until one drunken mishap a month before college graduation left me staring at two pink lines. Then I was sharing custody with the most unlikely baby daddy. We’ve figured out a system. Kind of. I’m rocking this single mom gig. Mostly.
If only I could get a boost in the romance department.
As if summoned by my dry spell, Mason Braxter makes a sudden reappearance in Meadow Creek. Six years have gone by, yet I can still remember every stupidly sculpted muscle on his body. How easy it would be to fall back into old habits. But I’m not that foolish girl anymore.
That doesn’t deter my all-star ex from trying to prove we can do it right this time. For all his efforts, I might let him scratch my itch once. Maybe twice. Definitely not thrice.
Harloe Rae is a USA Today & Amazon Top 10 bestselling author. Her passion for writing and reading has taken on a whole new meaning. Each day is an unforgettable adventure.
She's a Minnesota gal with a serious addiction to romance. She’s always chasing an epic happily ever after. When she’s not buried in the writing cave, Harloe can be found hanging with her hubby and son. If the weather permits, she loves being lakeside or out in the country with her horses.
She writes emotional, heartfelt romance with swoony heroes and sassy leading ladies. Her titles are available on Amazon.
Sadly, not for me. I wasn't a fan of how they just picked up right where they left off. Hardly any pining or hurt feels or anything. It makes it worse seeing as the heroine never really moved on, and how if the hero hadn't been injured, he probably would have never come back for her. Knowing this, and how he never even tried to reach out to her, makes their love a little less believable, and the words he says meaningless. The only person I really liked was the heroine's baby daddy LOL.
Safety:
6 year separation
No ow drama
Om drama- heroine's baby daddy has some scenes but he is gay and therefore not into the heroine, so not really drama
No virgins
Hero was not celibate during separation (mainly the beginning, because that makes me feel so much better LOL)
4 stars This book was sooo good. It had all the tropes I love in it: - Single Parent - Small Town - Second Chance Ugh just perfection. Mason was a great MC, super sweet! Looking forward to reading more from Harlow Rae
Doing It Right is my favorite kind of storytelling from Harloe Rae-soft, sweet, sexy, and endlessly swoony. Butterflies from start to finish. This heartfelt story is truly romance done right! What a sincere and dreamy escape!
Mason and Presley’s story is all about regrets and second chances, about what’s been left unsaid, about those life-altering decisions that irrevocably change not just your path, but who you are. Once innocent and young, hopelessly in love, these high school sweethearts and childhood friends always thought their path to the future was together…until their dreams no longer aligned, their paths divergent, and their young love abruptly ended in heartbreak and missed opportunities. Years later, their second chance begins with an unexpected encounter, their re-meet-cute moment that draws them back into one another’s orbit. Flirtation, unresolved feelings, and an undeniable chemistry give them the gift that few receive- the chance to reconnect, the chance to make different choices. But are the obstacles that tore them apart truly in the past?
What I love so much about Harloe’s writing is how so beautifully she captures the essence of her couples- the very marrow of what makes their connection beautiful and special…but also what makes it challenging. The narrative here is fast paced, blissfully low angst for much of the story. Harloe dives right back into the magic of this couple- from page one, this romance is ON. The minute these two lay eyes on each other, we are immersed in the charisma of their connection. While the heartbreak of their past is always in the peripheral, there’s an undeniable pull between them, an ease and familiarity that draws us in. Theirs is a rich history, one that Harloe laces with intimacy and specificity- the camaraderie sings off the page. And so it’s not wonder how easily they fall back into each other. And again, how beautifully highlights their essence- their open communication, the vulnerability they share, the devotion and respect they have for one another. How easily they have fun together, how quickly they can lay each other bare. (in more ways than one, wink wink) These are true soulmates who never really got to actualize the depth of their relationship. And now, well now is their chance to explore the path they didn’t get to take- the path of walking TOGETHER through life.
But in the way Harloe keenly focuses on the beauty of their connection, she also brilliantly captures the heart of the second chance romance- the challenge of loving someone who has already broken your heart. Harloe so deftly portrays that risk, because even if you never stopped loving someone, even if you have a chance to explore that again, that doesn’t mean the barriers and challenges of your first chance are any less present. Mason and Presley both find themselves living a life they never expected- one that they both have loved and cherished, enriched with careers and meaningful friendships and endless possibilities. But they also find themselves alone in many ways, both soldiering through the unexpected twists live has thrown at them. Some of those twists are amazing- like Presley being a single mom to a scene stealing little boy. And some are devastating- like Mason’s career-altering injury. But life has brought them right back to the road they were once on- each with a similar choice they had to once make. Will Mason make the right choice? Will Presley learn to fight for herself? And that’s the brilliance of the second chance- Harloe brings them full circle, airs their dirty laundry and forces them to face the ghost of their first chance and the baggage it created to see if time and perspective have changed them enough for their love to survive this time.
And their story is just so perfectly sweet. A bit of angst at the end, but for the most part, this story is ALL LOVE and ALL HEAT. Swoony and sexy, delicious and dreamy. And I loved that- I loved how we could just swim around in the affection these characters have in each other, that we could marvel at how patiently but persistently Mason woo’ed Presley. The grand gestures, the sweet nothings, the overtures and tender moments- just so much adorableness.
This is a story brimming with optimism and hope. Harloe shows us that we can change, that we can grow up, that we can learn from our mistakes, that we can learn to do it right and find our big happy…even if we don’t do it right the first time.
The queen of sweet and swoony love stories really brings it home with this second chance, small town, single parent romance.
Mason may have left Meadow Creek to chase his NFL dream, but his heart never swayed from it’s devotion to her. His Peppy Girl stole his heart in seventh grade and never gave it back. Leaving her behind was a mistake. Now he’s back and ready to make her believe that this time they are forever.
Presley is doing her best for her son. He is the light of her life. Being a mom is the most rewarding, but it's lonely. Dating does not interest her because when Mason left, he took her heart with him. Now that Mason is back in town, she can't stop how she feels, but she can make sure this time her heart stays in tact.
This was super sexy and incredibly sweet. Mason is all in and the man will make you swoon because he always knows the right thing to say. He owns his mistakes and is ready to make up for the hurt he caused them both. Resisting his charm is not easy and you won't want to.
The author delivered big time with this heart-melting romance, as the last one standing in their friend group falls hard for her first love (the second time around). This feel good romance will leave your heart happy.
Absolutely brilliant!!! DOING IT RIGHT is EVERYTHING my second-chance, single-parent romance-loving heart craves. Mason and Presley have chemistry for days, and darling little Archie just makes you want to squeeze him. I loved how Mason was in love with Presley's little boy. I loved the twist (!)--I adored this book. Don't miss it--FIVE STARS, Five Hearts, an unputdownable swoon-fest!

Presley and Mason were starry-eyed in love with hopes and dreams of a future together. Then high school graduation happened. He was destined for bigger things than a small-town football hero, and she was a small-town girl through and through.
He went on to pursue a pro football career. And she returned home to Meadow Creek after college with a surprise baby and an unconventional baby daddy. But Presley and little Archer's father remained friends and figured out a co-parenting system that worked for them.
Now Mason is back in town, to stay. Not only does he plan on ending Presley's lengthy dry spell, he’s not taking no for an answer. He’s determined to win back Presley's heart, and he's off to a great start with his instant connection with little Archie.
Oh, my heart y'all, nobody does a precocious, loveable child like this crafty storyteller. Archie is over-the-top adorable and he and Mason together are all the swoons!! The love story is pretty epic too, because hello second chance. We know from the beginning Presley and Mason are meant to be and spend the rest if the story cheering for their HEA. Humorous, hot, heartfelt and hypnotic, this magnificent romance will be one of your top reads this year, so make sure you don’t miss it!
Harloe Rae did the damn thing with Doing It Right. My romcom loving heart could not be prouder or more excited for the world to meet Mason, Presley, little Archie and the rest of the gang. From the prologue, I was enamored with this couple. Their chemistry was undeniable. Not only will you fall in love with our hero and heroine, you will go gaga over the way Mason melts for Presley's little boy. I swooned. I cackled. And I cannot wait for you to do the same. Mrs. Rae delivers a heart-felt romcom with all the feels. Doing It Right is second chance romance, well... done right.
You ever finish a book and think there's not enough happy ever after? And that you want more of the good times? Well, this book is for you.
Mason and Presley are high school sweethearts and have an amazing relationship, however, Mason is a great football player and he has plans. He wants Presley to come to his college but she's a hometown type of gal so they part ways.
And Mason does get to play professional football but life doesn't always work out the way we want...or think we want.
Mason ends up coming back to town and he and Presley hook up. She thinks it's a one and done but it makes him think something else.
The problem is that life has moved on for Presley and she has other things that are more important.
I thought these two were sweet...maybe too sweet? And don't even get me started on the sex scenes. I'm serious...it was like corny poetry - just too much and too over the top.
I did like the interesting dynamics and there's a certain someone that is a sweetie.
I enjoyed the friend group. I guess there's some books of theirs already out so I'll have to check those out.
this is a cute, second-chance romance. mason and presley were high school sweethearts who broke up when mason went off to college to pursue football and ores stayed behind in their hometown. when mason’s nfl career ends and they wind up in the same hometown bar one night, sparks fly… in a public bathroom… twice. presley’s a single mom now and is apprehensive to let mason back into her life seriously but he’s not letting his second chance with her go.
this was a really cute book with lots of spice and funny moments. the chemistry, beyond spicy chemistry, was missing a bit for me - their connection seemed to be rooted primarily in the past. i also wish we had seen presley have a bit more confidence in mason after all the effort he put in. but, i love a single parent romance and mason’s relationship with and commitment to archer was adorable.
This was a really simple, straightforward smutty story. Maybe a little too simple and straightforward. It doesn't feel like a second chance, honestly, because there wasn't any hurt feelings to overcome or anything. They split because they wanted to go different directions with their lives after high school, but they agreed it was the best thing ... they still loved each other, and despite 6 years going by, they both still were fixated on each other.

It was sugary sweet brain candy, really. No conflict or drama, and they're back into the relationship almost instantly.
Doing It Right by Harloe Rae is full of feels and nuclear hot chemistry. It brings the swoony vibe of a small town romance with the angsty side of second chance friends to lovers romance. Your heart has no chance in front of Mason's charm and killer sex appeal. And you will immediately fall in love with Presley's fire and sass. They are just explosive together.
Mason and Presley have been childhood best friends and then sweethearts. Mason had to leave their small town as he got drafted to NFL. And they decided to break up. It was full on heartbreak. Six years have passed. Mason and Presley's path cross again in a bar. Mason is now out of the game due to a bad injury and Presley is the single mother to adorable three year old Archer. Mason decides that he has to grab this chance. But will Presley open up her heart?
I know I should drool over the hero but Presley is such an amazing heroine and I have a girl crush on her. She does everything on her own term. She didn't want to leave all her dreams to follow Mason. She didn't let Mason in easily when he was trying to win her back. She didn't hide her pain and anger about Mason's detachment over the years. But she also didn't let the past to cloud her future. She wanted Mason instantly because their chemistry is undeniable but she didn't let her guards down first. Her love and devotion for her son is beautiful. I was feeling pity for Mason sometimes because Presley's bold no nonsense fierce personality literally made him go down on his knees. He made mistakes and the circumstances were not favourable. But boy..he has offensive charm or what. This man can be ridiculously swoony and adorable. Presley really had no choice but let him in. My heart was so full seeing when he treated Archer like his own son. This book is really spicy. Presley and Mason didn't see much action over the years and they were compensating for it at every turn. I specially loved Archer's biological dad Chad and Presley's girl gang. My only issue is that the whole drama got resolved way too easily..in my oopinion. I expected more angst and more heartbreak but that is probably the masochist in me.
I'm not gonna lie...I teared up in the first chapter. Mason and Presley met and fell in love in middle school. He was the football star and she was the cheerleader. This is definitely a story of first love and true, deep love. They broke up so Mason could go to college on the west and catch his NFL dreams. Presley didn't want to leave their small Minnesota town, she'd only be leaving to follow him, she loved him enough to encourage him to give it his all.
Mason (Ten - his jersey number growing up) and Presley's (Pep - he called her Peppy Presley) story is told in dual POV and has a lot of steam.
They bump into each other after six years of no contact and it's clear they're still deeply in love, but it's a journey for Pep to trust Mason again, especially when she needs to consider her son, Archer (Archie) as well. The majority of the story is winning his trust back, I love that Mason is honest and up front about what he wants...a life with Pep and Archie. There is a ton of character development in their story.
I learned a couple fun new words...Whore-igami and pervasaurus. Really fun second chance romance!
Favorite quote: We've been over this. You have every reason to hesitate. But I love you, Pep. Only you. That's how it's always been. That's how it always will be. You stole my heart in seventh grade and I don't accept returns.
I was so excited when Harloe reached out and asked if I wanted to beta read her next book! Her books truly fill me with so much joy and Doing It Right was no exception. If you like a heart (and panty) melting football player hero, you're going to want to add this book to your TBR! This is a single mom, second chance romance and it had the perfect balance of sweet, spicy and hilarious. The banter between these two is on point and made me laugh out loud many times while reading. And the spice hits quick (14%!!!) and it hits good. Love Presley and Mason and the rekindling of their relationship throughout this book! Comes out April 7th!
Presley is doing the single mom and co parenting like a champ. She is at a party when she see Mason, her high school boyfriend who she never got over. Mason is a pro football player who just had a career ending injury. Six years later and the chemistry is insane. Can Mason convince Presley that he won’t leave again? Great characters and storyline Highly recommended Amazing Book. Mason is swoony and sexy and Presley is funny and sassy. Archer steals the book love him
Really good and sweet single parent, second chance romance. Though it was a bit fast and easy. No major plot twists or angst or anything. Spicy as well but the dirty talk was weird especially the sports innuendos. Mason is a smooth talker, Presley so strong and capable, Archer is adorable and I didn't expect that about Chad but it was hilarious. I love them all as a family.
A beautifully written second chance romance. Completely hooked from the first page and devoured it as fast as I could. Presley is a single mom to the ever so adorable toddler and Mason is back in town and a chance encounter brings them back together. The chemistry between these two was off the charts and Mason was *chef's kiss* perfect. Archie was absolutely adorable and I could relate with my toddler. Another great read by Harloe Rae. Definitely recommend!
this is a second chance romance but there was barely any grovelling (he deserved to grovel for months instead of just one week) i love the friend group tho
Presley and Mason were high school sweethearts, first loves, with what they had thought was a long, beautiful life ahead of them. Then when it became obvious their paths, their dreams were no longer in sync, they parted. Now years later in their present, Mason's back in town and Presley's not immune to his presence. He's even more beautiful now, but her heart's not up for grabs this time around. She not only cannot survive a broken heart from Mason again, but she's more importantly, got someone in her life who matters more to her than anyone. Can Mason manage to claim his second chance with the woman he's never gotten over? Perhaps, if he bonds with the other love of her life.
I want my own Mason! He is so sweet, so darn swoon worthy the way he woos his one and only love. Presley and he got the sweetest, sexiest second chance that I've read in a long time. They fit together seamlessly even though Presley tried to keep her heart at a distance from him, but she really couldn't resist him for long. I hope more is coming for the rest of Presley and Mason's circle of friends now.
ARC provided by Candi Kane PR for an honest review.
Mason and Presley gave my heart a workout as they bombarded it with tons of emotions and feels. I have to admit that these two really yanked on my heartstrings. The rich history they share added real depth to this second chance romance and the feels they give are major. I found both characters likable and the attraction and chemistry between them was blatant and steamy. The well written story reads easily, and the flow is smooth. This romance was the perfect combination of sweetness and poignancy and heat and heart to deliver a solid knock-out punch right to your heart, while it puts an ear-to-ear smile on your face. This is my unbiased, unsolicited review.
This book hit every single mark when it comes to making a beautiful second chance romance come to life.
Harloe wove a story of brilliance and beauty that is clearly unmatched. Presley and Mason, and even little Archie, are everything I didn’t know I’ve been waiting for.
These two will mend all the battered and broken pieces in your heart and having you believe in love again.
Five stars for this amazing story that had me wishing it didn’t have to end.
The story was exactly what I expect from this author: funny, sexy, and light angst, with a captivating storyline and interesting characters. The interactions between Mason and Archer’s dad seemed authentic, and Presley’s feelings for Mason seem natural. And as the mother of a 2.5yo whose working on potty training— ACCURATE lol. I loved seeing “old” friends, reading where they are, and meeting new friends too. I hope we get an update somewhere with Chad finding his person, too.
Mason and Presley. What a sweet story about second chances from childhood love. Presley is a single mom who is reacquainted with her child hood love. Mason is back in town after his professional football career has come to an end . Their chemistry was off the charts, the story was sweet and it all came together very easily.
It was fun to have the appearance of the other characters and reading about their bonds.
5 BEAUTIFUL STARS!! This author has written a beautiful sweet story....that I can't stop thinking about. Mason and Presley hit all my feels buttons and kept me turning pages. Her writing is phenomenal and flawless....you must read this book.
This book was an odd one for me. I liked it, don't get me wrong, it was just way different than any romance I've ever read. There was no pursuit, there was no third act break-up, there really wasn't any tension or drama. It was almost, dare I say, too perfect?
High school sweethearts torn apart when boy leaves to go to college and ends up in the NFL. Girl stays home, ends up pregnant in an unconventional situation and makes a life for herself. Boy gets injured and comes back home. THEN THERE'S NOTHING BUT LOVELY DOVEY. There was no resistance, no chasing. They literally just fell right back into each other. It was just odd.
I'm a sucker for a story with kids, so you know that part was excellent for me. I didn't think I needed drama and angst, but maybe I do haha!
I found this book very strange. I don't think it's realistic that after six years, they just go back to their relationship, and he accepts her son as if it's nothing?
Furthermore, I finished the book to see if I liked it, but unfortunately I did not. The story ends, but the feeling I get is that the book needs a bit more development.
High school sweethearts, he's going to college in California to play football, she's staying in her hometown. Mason wants Pep to go with him but she won't or hold him back. Six years pass a chance meeting in a bar & they rekindle their friendship. Presley has other top priorities now. Archie makes this story so adorable. Very sweet love story, definitely worth reading.
This was a cute, sometimes really cheesy read. I love this trope, and I loved how obsessed mason was with both of them. However I found the dialogue to be so cringey and the steamy scenes did just not do it for me, they were so awkward.
