Maggie Jennings didn’t think she’d ever see Dylan McCormick again. When she was eighteen, he took everything she had to give—her heart, her love, and her virginity—and then broke her heart when he left for college. But now he’s back in her life, playing for the Dallas Longhorns, where Maggie works as the team’s media director. Watching him on the field is the most exquisite torture—he’s a muscled, talented athlete who looks amazing in a pair of baseball pants. Seeing him again makes her want all kinds of things she shouldn’t.
Dylan McCormick has it all. A pro baseball career, millions of dollars, and a life most only dream of. But everyone has regrets, including Dylan—and his is Maggie. One look at her, and he knows that he’ll do anything to get her back. He wants her. He needs her. He’s determined to atone for the past while showing her the man he’s become because he knows there’s no one else for him. But the past has a way of refusing to stay buried, and when secrets surface, their sizzling chemistry may not be enough to keep them together…
Tara Wyatt is a Canadian contemporary romance author. Known for her humor and steamy love scenes, Tara's writing has won several awards, including the Golden Quill Award and the Booksellers' Best Award. In addition, she was a 2018 RITA® Finalist for her novella, Until the Sun Sets.
When she's not hanging out with your next book boyfriend, she can be found reading, bingeing Netflix, or playing way too much Among Us. Tara lives in Hamilton, Ontario with the world's cutest dog, her daughter, and a husband who makes all her of her heroes look like chumps.
The first book in Tara Wyatt’s Dallas Longhorns series brings us a second chance romance, as Dylan McCormick returns to his hometown, after being traded, the last person he expects to see is the girl he left behind a decade ago, working for the team as well.
"I’ve thought about you nearly every damn day for the past ten years…"
Maggie Jennings is less than impressed to see the man who broke her heart without a backward glance all those years ago. Although, one thing that neither of them can deny is that the chemistry that burned hot between them then, still burns hot between them now.
Originally, he’d been angry about being traded… but now, it felt like a second chance season…
While Maggie is happy to sign up to a no-strings, friends-with-benefits type of arrangement, Dylan wants it all, and this time around no-one is going to get in his way, he just needs to persuade Maggie to see things his way, without her thinking he is manipulating her, and hope that the past doesn’t rear up and bite him in the butt.
She knew she was supposed to hate him, but she had to admit, lusting after him was a lot more fun…
As always with this author, this was a quick, sexy read, I must admit that I didn’t 100% fall for this couple as I usually do though, secondary familial drama in the form of Dylan’s father was my main issue(huge pet peeve for this reader) but I found Maggie to be a little immature at points too. That-said the author set up the team well, I finished the book happy that they eventually got their HEA, and I am looking forward to Bad-Boy Hunter’s book; Wild Card which is due for release next month.

3.5 stars Baseball and second chance - sign me up, Coach!
Dylan McCormick and Maggie Jennings had a whirlwind relationship towards the end of their senior year in HS. Lots of firsts were shared... also the first major heartbreak.
Fast forward 10 years and Dylan who plays pro ball is traded from the Padres to Dallas. He never wanted to set foot back inhis home state and never so close to a town filled with some his worst and best memories. He is in for the shock of his life when none other than his Maggie, his Mags, walks up to him on the field. She needed to clear the air with him if they were going to work closely with one another. She is more beautiful now than ever.
Can't believe his ears or luck when this sweet woman gives him an in when it comes to trying to win her back. Will she see it as manipulation or will she see the truth behind it?
Stealing Home was the first book in the Dallas Longhorns series by Tara Wyatt.
Dylan McCormick was a professional baseball player who was struggling after an injury. He was traded to Dallas, a short few miles from where he grew up.
Maggie Jennings was the PR Director for the Longhorns. Her high school sweetheart left her in the dust ten years ago, but she was determined to leave that in the past and continue to focus on her career.
Dylan and Maggie had history. Wyatt took us back ten years to the moment of separation then fast forwarded to the present. I loved both characters as well as the secondary characters for the series. I also enjoyed the premise of the storyline. I’m a sucker for second chances.
In the end, it was steamy and sweet all at the same time. I didn’t necessarily buy the “big conflict” near the end and felt more needed to be resolved with the offending party - no spoilers so no elaboration, but I wanted more. Otherwise, it was sexy, fun and entertaining. Hunter’s up next in Wild Card and I can’t wait.
This is the second book that I have read from this author and I loved it. A second chance romance about Dylan and Maggie who were high school sweethearts. Before he went off to college, he broke up with her and she vowed to never see him again. 10 years later they are back in each other’s lives. They decided to have a benefits relationship because she needed to get over him. Could that really work or will it develop into more? There will be a couple of issues that they will have to work out before they are able to possibly move on with anything. This was a great story and I can’t wait to read Hunter’s story.
I received a free copy of this ARC and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Maggie asked to have sex with him for her closure's sake within a month of him in Dallas. Just went straight to him and said "I think we should sleep together." This was only on the 2nd time she saw him since he was traded.
“Um, no. At my place. Or yours. Doesn’t matter. But we should definitely sleep together.” 😬😬😬😬😬😬 This is when I knew I should have dnf'd it.
That's all they did then. Except that one gala date. Both had apparent feelings even after 10 years. Neither of them truly moved on but both were second guessing their decisions of deciding to just do booty calls.
I don't know exactly which part I disliked but it was not a satisfactory read for me. I thought this would be a slow progression to them getting back together.
Their hookups had rules that were broken so soon. I just never felt a connection to both characters, unfortunately.
I'm back to reading romances in between fantasy books but kinda sucks not finding the right one.
Such a cute and quick read! I got the audiobook version from the author and listened to it in just two days and didn’t want to stop listening, because I loved these characters so much! 😍 I also always love #sportsromances so this was perfect. The way they were like “its just a friend with benefits kind of situation” also made for great entertainment, cause we all know how things like this end, right?😂 It was wonderful though - seeing how Dylan was so sure of his feelings for Maggie, knowing that he wants her and doing everything to get that second chance with her. I love when guys know what they want and aren’t shy to express their feelings. It’s so much more fun than seeing them be insecure and seeing the main characters ending up with a whole mess, because of miscommunication. There was no such thing here, which is another factor for why I simply adored this book!❤️ I already know I want to read more by this author!😍🥰💖
Dylan has a career in baseball and Maggie was his high school sweetheart until he left her only to return 10 years later. A love story that has twists and turns and ups and downs. I read it rather quickly. I loved it.
I enjoyed this book quite a bit and while it was a bit predictable, it still held my attention. This was a second chance love story ten years in the making. Dillon and Maggie were high school sweethearts until he broke her heart and left town for college. When he gets traded to the team she works for they enter into an “agreement” to sleep together her intention is to get closure, but he plans to win her heart again and it doesn’t take long before he does.
While I did have an issue with the hero making decisions for the heroine, I could also understand he thought he was doing the right thing for her.
I enjoyed them together, I would have liked a bit more character development and maybe a hint more of their time apart, but overall it was a fairly engaging story.
New Adult, reunion romance with baseball-star hero
In a small town near Dallas ten years ago, the summer after graduating from high school, when Maggie and Dylan were 18, they dated for four months and fell madly in love. Until, with no warning, and offering what Maggie considered a ridiculous excuse, Dylan dumped her and crushed her heart.
In the years since, Maggie has lost her mother to cancer and completed a university degree financed by an academic scholarship. Dylan also completed a university degree, and though his father is quite wealthy, he paid for it on his own with a full-ride baseball scholarship. He has been playing major league baseball for the past 5 years. Unfortunately, the previous year he injured his knee and, after a difficult period of physical rehabilitation, he has been in a slump with his batting ever since. As a result, and not entirely unexpectedly, he experiences the humiliation of being traded from a prestigious California team to the low-rated Longhorns team in Dallas.
Maggie and Dylan are both shocked to encounter each other after a decade apart, with no contact. Neither had expected to ever see the other again. However, Maggie has been working for several years as head of public relations for the Longhorns, and for the foreseeable future, their frequently running into each other at work is inevitable.
At first, Maggie wants nothing to do with Dylan. She greatly resents the fact that she is still emotionally and physically attracted to him, until she comes up with a plan she believes will get Dylan out of her system once and for all. She is convinced that she can finally achieve the closure she badly needs due to his desertion years ago by conducting a no-strings affair with him without, of course, confessing her motivation to Dylan. He makes it readily apparent that he is eager to become involved with Maggie again but, unfortunately for the success of her scheme, the more time she spends with Dylan, the more her former feelings of love begin to return.
This is a fun take on a classic set of romance tropes, the reunion romance and a protagonist deciding to have sex to get a potential or former lover out of their system, and thereby avoid or heal a broken heart.
Maggie and Dylan are attractive, sympathetic protagonists, and fans of second-chance romance will enjoy this well-written story. Readers who favor a feisty, independent heroine will find Maggie very much to their taste. And romance fans who seek out heroes who are professional athletes, and who are particularly fond of baseball, will be thrilled with the fact that Dylan is a baseball star.
The sex scenes in this warm-hearted romance are sensitively and sensuously written and are never gratuitous. They always contribute to the growth of the relationship.
All in all this is a fun sports romance.
I rate this book as follows: Heroine: 4 stars Hero: 4 stars Subcharacters: 4 stars Romance Plot: 4 stars Writing: 4 stars Overall: 4 stars
Note: I received an ARC of this book through Booksprout.
What is it with me and sports romances? I don't even like sports but I love this theme for some reason. I've never read this author before but this was free on Amazon as of 2/7/21 so I jumped at the chance once I read the blurb. As it turns out, I have a lot of unread books by this author waiting in my kindle so kudos for that as I enjoyed this book.
Dylan and Maggie were high school sweethearts that dated the summer before Dylan was going off to college. Maggie thought they were meant to be and all that jazz until the night Dylan suddenly breaks up with her, shattering her heart. 10 years later, Dylan is a major league baseball player and in a bit of a slump and gets traded from California back to his hometown in Dallas. He's not happy to say the least but as it turns out Maggie works as a media relations person for the team he is going to be playing for. Dylan has never forgotten Maggie and has always regretted breaking up with her like he did because there was more to it than just wanting to see other people like he had told her. When they see each other sparks fly even after 10 years and staying away from each other may be too much to even consider.
This is a light hearted sports romance and I read it within a few hours. I really loved Dylan and I especially loved the creative way they made up after their fall out. I have never seen an author do anything like this and I love being surprised so that was a major plus. I love second chance romances and these two really brought out the best in each other. This book had some dramatic moments but it was not a book that required tissues. I actually want to keep reading this series now and cannot wait to read Hunter's story soon. Oh and if you sign up for the author's newsletter you get an extended epilogue and it was a steamy scene for sure. This author definitely writes hot sex scenes and I loved Dylan's filthy mouth almost as much as Maggie did.
4.5 stars. This has been sitting on my pile of books to read longer than planned but I'm glad I finally dusted it off. So much heartache, passion, heartbreak, love, loss, joy, heat, and friendship to go along with second chances and fighting for what you want can be found in these pages.
DNF after the second chapter. The guy broke the girls heart. Supposed to think about her for the next 10 years, but that doesn’t stop him from fucking around. Then he’s back in town because he was traded, otherwise he would never have come back to her. From the immediate moment they reunite she’s like putty in his hands. You can tell how this story will go on, this book just isn’t for me.
This was a fast fun read that left the reader satisfied with the ending. The reader doesn't necessarily want to read any other books in the series, but this was one was good for reading now. It gave the reader a dose of baseball and made them want baseball even more! A good read to add to your TBR for when you are missing baseball!!
She said she wanted closure, but what if instead of putting a period on the sentence of Dylan and Maggie, it only opened everything up again, including old wounds and long-buried secrets?
This author is relatively new to me, only discovering her recently through ARC opportunities (and her last novella, Nailed). Unfortunately lately I have been so busy with ARC reads that I haven't been able to check out her other work......so when this ARC opportunity showed up in my email I couldn't wait to jump at the chance to read more from her. I realized it was a different premise but still a sweet romance, and for once I didn't feel any dread going into it ("sweet" isn't my thing). I liked Nailed a lot, but I LOVED Stealing Home. It was that kind of story that you regret starting before bed time because you stay up way past the time you are supposed to be asleep and absolutely dread having to close off your Kindle before it's finished. From the very beginning it gripped me, and kept me in that vice grip until the very last page. It was fantastic.....an additional addition to the plus column? This is the first ARC in the last 2-3 weeks that had absolutely ZERO errors/typos.
Sex with Dylan was exactly what she needed, for so many reasons. She just needed him to say yes.
Told in dual POV, this standalone is all about second chances and finding that one that completes you. Taking place within the Texas Longhorns "universe", this is the first in an all new series featuring pro MLB ballers and the gorgeous women that capture their attention and their hearts. It is a feel good story, with just enough angst, secrets, and manipulation to give it a little edge while still guaranteeing the perfect HEA.
He'd been so good to her. Until he hadn't, she reminded herself. It had all been a show. If it had meant anything, he wouldn't have just thrown it away because of a little distance. He wouldn't have let his father's disapproval wreck what they had.
Ten years ago, Maggie's heart was broken by the only boy who ever owned it. On the night before he left for his full ride baseball scholarship to Vanderbilt, Dylan McCormick left her in their small town to slave away at the diner in hopes to save enough to go to community college. He was always out of her league and his dad hated her because she was poor, she just thought it didn't matter to him. But she's over it....now the manager of public relations for the Dallas Longhorns, she has done well for herself and created a nice life. Nothing can ruin it for her, unless its the very one who broke her heart being traded to her team. Yep, Dylan is coming home which means she will have to work with him. She's fine, he doesn't mean anything to her......until she sees him in the flesh for the first time in a decade. The chemistry is still red hot and he is sexier than ever. She has the perfect solution to scratch the itch and get the closure she needs......a no strings attached fling will get him out her system, she just has to make sure she doesn't give him her heart again in return.
"It's a bad idea, Maggie." She hooked her fingers into the belt loops of his jeans and tugged him against her. "I think it's the best idea I've had in a long time." "I thought you hated me." She smiled at him sweetly. "I don't have to like you to want to fuck you. This is just sex I'm offering. No feelings, no strings."
Dylan McCormick has it all.....the multi-million dollar MLB contract and all the perks that come with the fame and the money, but the biggest mistake of his life is also his biggest regret. So when his return after a knee injury turns out to be less than stellar, he finds himself being traded to one of the worst teams in the league. The one team that will take him back to the place that he calls home BUT brings out the worst memories. He has no idea that the girl that haunts his dreams is working for the team that got him, and when she hits him with a proposal promising no strings sex he knows he can't resist despite it being a bad idea. She is even more beautiful all these years later and soon he makes it his goal to win her back and show her he isn't the same immature boy that broke her heart. He isn't going to blow this chance, but the secret behind that painful night might hold the power to destroy his chances once and for all.
"And the truth is, while I knew you ten years ago, I don't know you real well now. But I want to." He took another step closer, caging her in against the corner of the counter. "Don't you want to know me, too?" "I did know you, Dylan. And you broke my heart."
Again, it does end with the perfect HEA, but these two will fight their own personal battles to get there. Maggie is far too strong to just cave despite her heart, which she guards despite every urge to give it to him. Dylan has the ultimate battle on his hands, he will battle on three fronts.....all with the goal of making Maggie his while saving his career and taking out anyone or anything in his way.
"Because I don't wanna fall for you again." Her voice was barely above a whisper, words he wasn't even sure he was supposed to hear. "What if I promise to catch you?"
Overall, I couldn't get enough of Maggie and Dylan and their love story. I found myself rooting for them even before they "reconnected" and especially after I got a peak at their explosive chemistry. Tara couldn't have wrote two characters more perfect for one another. And that SEXTING scene?? Lawd Jesus I haven't seen it done so effortlessly (without all the lameness and cringey lines) maybe EVER. So so hot. With this being a sports romance, I honestly kinda expected it to be like the rest.....with the sport in focus being a backstory or only brought up when necessary to guide the plot along. However, Tara was able to weave it into every chapter in a way that made me just as invested in Dylan's comeback as I was in their budding romance. I also appreciated that she gave us just enough from the supporting characters to began their story line without allowing it to interfere with our two main stars. I don't have one thing negative to say about this one (which is a rarity lately).
"I like this dirty mouth of yours," she sighed. "Good. Because I plan to do all kinds of things to you with this dirty mouth," he said, his hands sliding down her back and to her ass as he bit at her breast.
Stealing Home has put Tara Wyatt even higher on my list of author's to check out and was an awesome start to what I can only imagine is going to be one exciting series. I definitely recommend you get lost in the world of hot baseball players and the ladies that hold their balls in their hands.....I can't wait until Hunter's story personally, but I have a feeling they are all going to be page turners!
"Magnolia Jennings, I've loved you since I was eighteen, and I never stopped loving you. Yeah, babe, I love you. More than anything." "Say it again." "I love you, Maggie. Always have, always will."
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Dylan and Magnolia were self proclaimed high school sweethearts but he broke her heart when he broke up with her the night before he leaves for college. Ten years later, Maggie is working in the marketing department for the Dallas Longhorns, the team that Dylan is traded to during a major slump. Dylan has always regretted breaking Maggie's heart so he is happy for his second chance with her. Maggie just wants closure since she never believed his reason for breaking up with her.
This was a short, sweet and enjoyable enough read. It just didn't call to me. Maggie's reasoning to get her closure was kind of silly and a little ridiculous. I liked both her and Dylan but that is kind of it. Nothing to make me dislike the book at all but nothing that pushes it over the top for me.
Left heartbroken and alone when Dylan leaves for college, Maggie is left to pick up the pieces of her broken heart. Telling herself that her love for Dylan has turned into hatred only last for so long when he ends up being traded to the very same baseball team that she works for ten years later. When she decides that the only way to get over him is to get under him one last time, the sparks from years past are still there. Can you fall in love with the man who had broken your heart and left you devastated? Or wil you be able to love again? With great characters this was a great read. Nothing better than baseball and romance.
Maggie and Dylan were in love for a couple of months but he was going away to college but that did not matter to them because they were going to have a long distance affair, atleast that was what Maggie thought. Dylan broke Maggie's heart thinking that it was the best thing for her, not telling her the real reason that he not only broke her heart but his as well. Ten years later Dylan is having problems swinging and he gets traded to the Longhorns the worst team in the league and his home town where he never wanted to return to. Turns out that Maggie the girl he never stopped thinking about or loving also works for them and it was a shock to him but now he is determined to win her back. Maggie was shocked and upset that Dylan was back in her life, she claims she hates him and wants nothing to do with him but when she sees him again she wants him and convinces him to a no strings affair..But will it stay that way? What will she do when she finds out what Dylan did? Well grab a copy and find out...Enjoy!
Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author..Voluntarily reviewed with my own thoughts and opinions.
The first book in this author's baseball series, I got this book off of amazon. Maggie Jennings has worked by herself since the day or night that Dylan McCormick broke her heart when he told her that they were no longer to be together before he left for college. At eighteen she was crushed but got over it and worked so now years later she is the media director for the Longhorns baseball team. Dylan has come home and is now playing for the team, when they finally see each other she at first wants nothing to do with him but he continues to show up and talks her into a friend with benefits. That is until they each become serious with each other, then the same person who wanted her out of his life before does it again to his father. She gets fired from her job with the team and wants nothing to do with him. Now it is time for Dylan to either step up for the woman he wants to be with or continue to be under his father's thumb. See what happens in this book, a good story. I got this book from Amazon I gave it 4 stars.
Maggie and Dylan meet again ten years after he ended their relationship and old feelings come back, so they decide to have a no strings relationship to try to put an end to their story. This was a good story, but I wish they'd had a meaningful conversation when they met again the second time. I received an ARC copy of this book by the author, all opinions here are my own.

Dylan and Maggie were young and in love and he forced to make a devil's bargain that he felt was best for her. But he hurt her when he broke up with her. Ten years later he wants a second chance. Both Dylan and Maggie are good folks and I found myself rooting for them to work it out. They had time stolen from them but the love remained. Can they find the trust to build their future together?

I thoroughly enjoyed this read from beginning to the end the chemistry is off the charts between the well developed and engaging characters. The storyline had enough going for it that it kept my attention. Will the drama keep them apart?

This is my first Tara Wyatt book but most definitely not my last! I fell in love with her writing from the very first chapter. Not usually being a sports romance fan, I was a bit nervous I would get bored but that definitely didn’t happen. I fell a little in love with Dylan McCormick (don’t tell my husband!). So even if you don’t love sports, you will still like this book.
Another wonderful story written by this author. The story had plenty of angst, sweet and heat written in by this author. Following Dylan and Maggie's story to the very end was a true blast to read. Looking forward to the next book by this author.
