Tall, Dark, and Wolfish

The second novel in Lydia Dare’s trilogy can be read without reading the first. This one tells the story of Lord Benjamin Westfield, who was only spoken of having taken off to Scotland with little notice in A Certain Wolfish Charm.

Benjamin is the youngest of the three Westfields, who are all Lycans, that is, werewolves. Unfortunately, after a disastrous evening with a prostitute too close to the full moon, Benjamin has lost the ability to shift. He seeks the advice of an older member of England’s Lycan society who recommends he travel to see a healer in Scotland.

Elspeth Campbell lives in Edinburgh and she is a witch, one of five in the Cóig, a coven that has lasted in Edinburgh for centuries. She inherited the position and her ability to heal from her mother. The seer in her coven predicts that there is a beast coming to take Elspeth away.

My complaints are few. Most of this book takes place in Edinburgh, but I didn’t really get a feel for the place. It often sounded like it was taking place in a much more rustic place than Edinburgh. Also, the Scottish people’s patois is written out. Lots of ‘doona,’ ‘canna,’ and ‘ta.’ I can’t help but feel this is unnecessary; mention of their heavy Scottish accent could have sufficed. However, that is a personal nitpick, many people probably don’t care.

However, it is a very amusing book otherwise. I did laugh out loud several times. The personal conflicts between the characters are handled well and with a touch of realism – major plot points are resolved, happily ever after happens, but there is an a hint of ‘to be continued,’ letting us know that there is still work to be done in the relationships and friendships that have started.

P.S. I’m already a couple chapters into Lord William Westfield and Prisca Hawthorne’s story, The Wolf Next Door., which has been teased at in A Certain Wolfish Charm and Tall, Dark, and Wolfish.

Favorite Quote: "Did you miss me?"
"Like a piece of myself was missing."

Lord Benjamin Westfield is a powerful werewolf that has lost a part of himself. He heads to Scotland in search of a famed healer to help him in his time of need. Elsbeth Campbell has followed in her mother's and grandmother's footsteps by becoming a powerful witch and healer. When Lord Benjamin and Elsbeth meet they find themselves falling head over heels in love and not sure whom really needs whom.

In Ms Dare's second book about the uber sexy Westfield shape shifter siblings, Lord Benjamin Westfield has developed a problem. He is unable to shift during a full moon. Feeling as though a part of himself is missing, he takes the advice of a fellow wolf friend and heads to Scotland seeking the famed healer Rosewyth Campbell for help. Instead he meets the lovely and enchanting Elsbeth Campbell; Rosewyth's daughter. Born on the "wrong side of the blanket" she holds her head high and comports herself like the lady she is despite the wagging tongues. Elsbeth is a famed healer, like her mother and grandmother before her. She is also part of a powerful coven.

Her coven has foretold of Westfield coming and taking her away so her friends are prepared to fight for Elsbeth with all their powers. Elsbeth and Ben are instantly attracted to each other- as though their souls had been waiting for each other. As they embark on a sensual whirlwind romance, she tries to fix his wolf and he tries to solve the mystery of her birth.

I really liked how Ben and Elsbeth do not have the wolf secret between them that Ms Dare's first book contained. She knows he is a wolf so that never becomes a problem between them. It allowed for deeper character development. The chemistry between them is erotic and hot. As I read their story I could feel they belonged to each other. Ben's wolf wants Elsbeth as his mate and it shows. As Elsbeth and Ben draw closer to their destiny, her coven attempts to drive him away. I like how self assured Elsbeth is. Despite her age & the time she lives in; she is remarkably unapologetic about her circumstances or the way she feels for Ben.

Ben is your typical English lord but with out the arrogance you often see. As we all know romance and magic mixed together produces some interesting and sometimes not so happy results. When Elsbeth and Ben come down off their love high and enter into the relationship arena we start to see some sparks fly. Both Ben and Elsbeth are loyal, loving, independent people who both feel they know best for those they love. Elsbeth is torn between her new life with Ben and her past life while Ben feels he must protect Elsbeth for her own good.

Ms Dare guides them through their trials and tribulations with love and humor while leaving the reader sighing with pleasure. We do catch a glimpse of William (Ben's older brother) in this book and he is as gorgeous and full of mischief as usual. But I hear he will be getting his comeuppance in Ms Dare's last book in this series, The Wolf Next Door, which is scheduled for June 2010. And I cannot wait.

I haven't read many historical paranormal romances but I generally enjoy the idea behind them. There is something fascinating in the idea of all those vampires and shapeshifters suited into regency era and from time to time I like to read such a story. Tall, Dark and Wolfish is my first book by Lydia Dare and I was really surprised by actually how good it is.

I generally prefer vampires over shapeshifters as a heroes of my books but I truly liked Benjamin. He is sweet, still being an alpha man. And Ellie is definitely not your average historical romance heroine, she knows what she wants and is perfectly capable of caring about herself. The idea of his shifting problems added an interesting twist into the story.

The plot is really grabbing and the relationship believable despite being a love at the first sight. I even enjoyed the star crossed lovers idea which I usually don't like. There were also some funny moments. Imagining Ben knocked with the pine cones right into his head made me laugh a lot.

Without the half-stars, I hesitated between three and four stars and finally decided on four because it was surely a pleasure to read this book. I also honestly like Will, I would love to read his story some time very soon.

I'll never let ye be, Ben. I plan ta claim ye as my Lycan mate this night. And every day from this moment on.

Benjamin Westfield is a werewolf and couldn't ever imagine losing his wolf. Then one night under the full moon, he doesn't change and is at a loss as to what to do. He feels as if he has lost a huge part of himself. When he starts to investigate and research he learns of a healer in the highlands of Scotland who might be able to bring his wolf back. So he heads up to Edinburgh. Elspeth Campbell is a witch and her focus is the healing arts. She is a vital part of a coven of five witches , as close as sisters. When one of her fellow witches has a vision of a dangerous wolf that will come and take her away. When Elspeth first takes notice of Benjamin, she is charmed and instantly drawn to him. She doesn't see danger from Ben she sees a man who is respectful and tender toward her. When she learns of his ailment and that he is actually seeking her , she only desires to heal him so his wolf may be restored. When her coven sisters try to interfere in the intimate relationship that is forming between herself and Benjamin she knows where her heart lies.

Tall Dark and Wolfish is the second book in the Westfield series. Ever since I first started reading this author I fell in love with her writing from the very beginning. There is such a tender and strong connection between the characters from the very beginning. When Benjamin and Elspeth first meet, the instant attraction between them is obvious and they don't shy away from it, they embrace it. You see how each of them need love and I enjoyed seeing Lydia Dare taking the unique setting and the way the plot unravels. There is a slight mystery, a bit of a conflict trying to get Benjamin's wolf back, but I found this story to be a poignant and sweet read. I enjoyed seeing how Benjamin handles the other coven witches. They definitely put him through a series of tests and he comes out on top and handles their assaults with patience.

I found that I liked the relationship between Benjamin and Elspeth. Elspeth is a sweet heroine, she doesn't hide her feeling from Benjamin. I found her to be one of my favorite heroines. She can be strong willed when she is fighting for what she wants. But I love the gentle like quality she has about her. Benjamin is a mix between dominant wolf and yet has a gentle side when it comes to Elspeth. Even though he is determined to find his wolf, Elspeth becomes his top priority. There is a couple of misunderstandings that occur between them, and you see how stubborn they both can be. However I found it quite amusing and I loved the outcome of them working it out in the end.

Overall I couldn't help but admire the way the author puts this story together. It is always fun seeing how she blends in the historical setting with the paranormal of shifters and witches. A unique mixture of in depth characters, romantic setting, a rich plot and a charming love story.

Talk Dark and Wolfish

The tale in which Ben, the youngest Westfield brother highs himself off to Scotland to find a witch to cure what ails him.

Ben Westfield has a problem- he's a werewolf shifter who cant shift. On the advice of an elder, he goes in search of a witch, a healer who can supposedly set him right. But instead of the witch he finds her daughter, an enchanting redhead who fires his passions as well as his curiosity almost immediately.

Elspeth Campbell is intrigued by the gentleman who appears to take her to a friend's ball. Charming and handsome she cant resist the chance to dance with him, even though she despises balls, and not the least of which- she cant afford the distraction, for she means to find her father before he finds her and fulfills the prophecy her best friend has just given her...the one that will supposedly destroy the coven of friends that has come to mean the world to her.

But little does she know that it's not her father that will fulfill the prophecy, but the man in who's arms she's dancing that very night.

Shifter paranormal historical romances are pretty much an easy A when it comes to me, therefore I like this series despite the author's relative immaturity in the craft. (At least it reads like a new author anyway.) Still, I so loved Ben and Ellie together and the heat they generated with their bizarre connection. I hear the next one in the series is better than this entry. All I can say is, if it is, I'm gonna really dig it because Tall, Dark and Wolfish wasnt bad, not bad at all!

Talk, Dark and Wolfish by Lydia Dare has to be my favorite thus far. This romance story has an old world feel and the mixture of Were Wolf vs. Scottish Witch is delightfully delicious.

In the first book Simon was the main character who is the eldest of three brothers. This installment takes care of Ben who is the youngest and the one who seems to attract trouble as easily as luring a bee to honey. Only problem is, is that Ben is suddenly broken. Ack, how does a were wolf get broken?

Well at least we find out the how and why with a comical romp through the city of Edinburgh Scotland while chasing after a for real Scottish Witch. Oh did I mention one witch. Oops, sorry but there is more than one but alas Ben only has eyes for one in particular and her friends are not overly happy with a beast chasing after their sister witch.

The author did a remarkable job with this book with the ease at which the story unfolds and then wraps around you like a really warm blanket on a cold winter's eve. She has given us her sense of humor that will most certainly have you chuckling throughout at the shenanigans that Ben and Eslpeth must overcome in order to sample the delicious delights of romance at it's finest.

Misconceptions, misunderstandings and secrets abound from London to Edinburgh but unwrap at prime intervals of the story to make this a must read for anyone who loves historical romance with a touch of lust, comedy and touching surprises.

Good read but stay away if you 'doona ken' dialect... The plot in the first book [A Certain Wolfish Charm] was driven by the fact the hero [Simon, our hero's oldest brother] was a werewolf. In this one, Ben has lost the ability to change and has gone to Scotland looking for a someone who might be able to heal him. What he finds is the daughter of the healer he sought, and the coven of witches she belongs to.

The book is charming and funny - the characters are people you would like to know. The plot is not hugely intense but unfolds at a steady pace. Could you read this as a stand alone? Yes. There's not a whole lot of overlap - most of the story takes place at the same time as book 1. At the end of book 1, the middle brother heads to Scotland to find out what's going on with his brother and he arrives about two-thirds of the way through. As always, I do recommend reading them in order...

PD: Sorcha me encanta, quiero su historia.
PD2: Will, allá voy por ti, tengo altas expectativas a su historia.

Wolf and Witch

This was my second or third read of the book. I love the mythology and setting surrounding the witches. The coven works as a family unit and the women love each other very much. Ellie and Ben are great counters and she's strongly independent against his arrogance. The romance is full of depth as the couple learn about each other. They also learn about their own psychology in a way that moves the story through showing, not just telling.

I only knocked down a star because the Scottish brogue in written form was distracting. And it one for the entire book. But all the other elements made up for the annoyance.

Buckle up, buttercup because there's a lot to cover. Note to self: locate some chamomile-blueberry herbal tea stat (if you know, you know).

Pros
-Flipping the Sexual Script
*Usually our heroine needs the hero's assistance to fake a marriage, an engagement, get hired to make some money and becomes a governess (you get the idea). But here, Ben, our werewolf who just can't wolf right now, needs our heroine, Elsbeth. Not only that, but because she's a healer, she tells him what to eat and due to their respective matching marks, they're both able to control the other's sexual experience. Elsbeth uses this tactic often on Ben to curb his temper, giving her an old school (men being rendered helpless by sex) plus new school (she's less susceptible to the effects of Ben using the matching mark) romance tropes.
-Feminism at its Finest
*In that its understated. Elsbeth's coven is of course all powerful, each with their own abilities (healer, seer, etc.) but beyond that there's the finer details:
1.Cait (the seer) has a suitor, Alec, who simps after her at every turn and eventually goes to ask her father for her hand. The father gives his consent, but tells Alec it's worthless unless Cait agrees to give her hand. I've never seen this done in an historical romance before; usually the men are all about the business of marriage while women are the innocent bystanders, puppet to the puppeteer. But Cait is in charge of her own happiness. Kudos to her dad!
2.The women shop around town, sans chaperone, and pick up dresses they've ordered/paid for themselves.
3.Elsbeth actually gets angry at Ben's use of the word "whore" to describe a woman he had... relations with. Not only is it because villagers gave Elsbeth's mother that name, but he treats that woman the same way the villagers treat Elsbeth: they talk smack about her behind her back (calling her a bastard, witch; must've shared lessons on verbal harassment with those bullies from Practical Magic), but as soon as she deemed "necessary", they come running.
4.The women attend dances they're directly invited to, rather than being directed to and there's no discussion of marriage or courtship beyond a cheeky remark about a man's aesthetics as he waltzes past.
-Method to the Madness
*Although this may become a con, I get why Ben rushed to marry Elsbeth... somewhat. He literally arrived on the night her grandfather died, her mom's already passed on, and her father (who is Lycan) has long peaced out (no worries; Major Forester redeems himself later). His admitting he didn't love her, but felt mated through the marks and sorry for her overall, makes some sense.
*But, so does a scene that shows up with seemingly contractual obligation in many historical romances: the note/running away scene. But here, I get it; In her letter, Elsbeth tells Ben that she overheard him say he doesn't know if he can love her and that he married her not knowing if he ever could. She declares they both deserve partners who love them. And when she cries after leaving, it didn't leave my eyes rolling "Why are you crying when you made the decision?" because it's not an easy decision. It's embarrassing to stay (at that moment, she's holding out hope that she can "get" him to love her) and embarrassing to leave (she went against the wishes of her coven, uprooted her whole life for him/the quest for her father-this could also be a con-and married him in less than a week. Her self-respect is shot all around). I do get her reaction
-Dual POV
*This gave greater depth to the interactions because they'd pick up right where the last person's sentence/thought left off (ex: Ben and his brother's convo ends with Elsbeth standing right outside the door, getting her reaction once the speech is over). This saves the reader a lot of retread.

Little Asides (Well, that's a new section)
-When someone asks Elsbeth "Are ye from Glasgow?" I immediately started singing the opening line from ABBA's, "Super Trouper": "I was sick and tired of everything, when I called you last night from Glasgow".
-The novel explores the notion of toxic friendship: Cait and her mother both manipulated Elsbeth and her mother into believing their true love would bring disaster (AKA take the women away from a small minded location and try for personal/romantic happiness). Crabs in a barrel was the vibe I got from the coven.
-A direct Hades and Persephone comparison?! And in a paranormal witch/werewolf romance no less? An author after my own ❤️.
-These smutty delights... had me singing "she's insatiable, that's what she is"😏
*Don't get me started on the one beneath the full moon when Elsbeth is like "I couldna' howl. So I called ta ye the only way I knew how". Siren indeed.
*The marks are more than a mere aesthetic choice/connection to Lycan heritage... do with that what you will...
*And she had her friend fashion a bigger willow bed for... reasons

Cons
-Needs More Groveling
-I would've liked a time jump: Ben with his witchy wife and daughter, perhaps running through the same flowery meadow from prior, but with happiness rather than scared urgency.

Oh, and the obligatory songs that ran through my mind?
-"Running With the Wolves"- Aurora
-"Wolf Like Me"- Lear Lynn, Shovels & Rope
-"Me and Mr. Wolf"-The Real Tuesday Weld
-"Lil' Red Riding Hood"-Amanda Seyfried

Sufficed to say yes. I've just had a change of heart.

Benjamin Westfield has lived a rogue’s charmed life; A benefit of being the Duke of Blackmoor’s brother, as well as from a long line of shapeshifting werewolves. He is known for his seductive skills, and persuasive ways. That is until he finds himself unable to embrace his wolf form after a scandalous “incident”. A trusted friend sends him to find a renowned witch that has the ability to heal him. But once in Scotland he finds that the witch he was seeking is deceased, luckily her lovely and tempting daughter may still be able to help him.

Elspeth Campbell was born a bastard to a witch mother, and a werewolf father who abandoned her mother before she was born. She has lived a somewhat sheltered life with her mother and her grandfather…and while she is still gossiped about, and somewhat shunned because of her birth, she is reluctantly accepted by her community because of her kindness and her healing abilities. She is a part of a coven of witches, each with a unique talent, but as a whole are forces to be reckoned with. However, it has been prophesied that she will be taken from the coven, which may have a potentially devastating effect on them all. She hopes that the man who is coming for her is her father whom she is desperate to discover, only to find herself inexplicably drawn to the man she is determined to heal.

Can I just tell you how much I enjoyed reading this book…the characters alone make it a worthwhile read despite some of the things that didn’t quite work for me. Lydia Dare creates such amazing characters that you are immediately intrigued by, no matter if they are the hero, heroine, a main, or a secondary character. For me Tall, Dark and Wolfish was a historical romance that enjoyed settings in Regency England, and the Scottish countryside. It had some paranormal elements with its shapeshifters and witches, but neither in a comprehensive way. It was a little bit this, and a little bit of that of many of my favorite components, which may be why I enjoyed it so much.

However, as much as I enjoyed the book there were a few things that didn’t meet my expectations, or felt would have made the story better. I didn’t feel that the “incident” that led to Ben’s inability to shift was adequately revealed….at least to the point that I thought it explained it to equal the meaning this moment in his life held. Elspeth also experienced a pivotal moment in her life with the death of her grandfather, and I felt that her grief over his death was woefully inadequate considering his role and importance in her life. I was also a little disappointed that it was so easy to guess who Elspeth’s father was. This was a thinly veiled mystery for even Elspeth to reveal, and considering her parents love for each other I would have thought he would have been harder to find since neither of them found their way back to each other. Finally I was disappointed that the author made Elspeth so eager to have a love affair with Ben outside of marriage since she carried the mantle of “bastard” all of her life. This stigma was repeatedly remarked upon on how it made her feel. Which is why I was surprised that it didn’t seem to matter to her that she was following in her mother’s footsteps…making the same mistakes without seeming to have any second thoughts.

My final thought is on a more positive note. Each person born from a Lycan parent carries a mark, much like a tattoo, and the author cleverly uses this mark as a way for the hero and heroine (mates) to entice, arouse, or summon each other across distances by touching or stroking it. I thought this brought what I felt was something new to the shapeshifter genre and I liked that about it.

Despite these comments, Tall, Dark and Wolfish is as charming as its hero and heroine. I fell in love with each of its characters including all of the secondary characters. Lydia Dare has created a tempting paranormal romance series, not only with her Westfield brothers, but also with her coven of young witches. I know she has at least two more “wolf” books, but I dearly hope she returns to Elspeth’s witchy “sisters” and give them each their own happy ending. Each of them was enchanting, and I can’t wait to read the devilishly enticing brother William Westfield’s story in The Wolf Next Door due out in June.

Caitlin, the seer, dpt melihat ben membawa el pergi dr coven mereka.
Ya ampun egois banget….jd mereka lebih baik menyuruh el mengorbankan hati & kebahagiaannya sendiri drpd coven mereka terpecah….duh ga penting amat sih.

Tp bukan benjamin westfield namanya kalo menyerah bgt saja.
Walo el berubah dingin padanya tp ben maju terus pantang mundur.
Well ga gentleman2 amat sih lha wong tiap ada kesempatan maunya megang & nyium ellie mulu tuh.

Ben ingin membantu ellie mencari tahu siapa ayah kandung ellie sebenarnya tapi agak susah karna teman2 ellie terutama caitlin selalu ikut campur dlm segala keputusan ellie.
apalagi stlh kematian sang kakek.

ben yg khawatir semalaman memeluk ellie tanpa perduli hal2 yg lainnya.
tentu saja bagi masyarakat sekitar kejadian yg sekedar memeluk semalaman itu bukan hal biasa, nama ellie lgs tercemar.

nah ini nih yg bikin aq rada gimanaaaa gitu sama jaman dulu...
secara ketahuan jalan2 cuman ber 2 aja dah langsung disuruh nikah
iya kalo yg ngajak jalan kita suka, lha kalo ga??heleh sengsara donk.....

back to ben & ellie deh.
karna ellie katanya udah tercemar karna ben menghabiskan waktu semalaman dikamar ellie maka ben harus menikah dgn ellie.
yah ben mel;akukannya tidak terpaksa2 amat sih secara dia juga suka sama ellie, lagipula ben ngerasa kalo dia nikah sama ellie otomatis maka ellie adl miliknya & teman2 witch ellie ga bisa ngapa2in donk....tul ga????
jadilah ben menikah dgn ellie tanpa dihadiri keluarga ben 1 pun, walo stlh pernikahan baru si william nongol.
tau ga kata2 pertama william apa stlh ketemu ben???

This is the second novel I've read by Lydia Dare. I just love her characterizations of the heriones in her books. They are cunning, intelligent, strong willed and vulnerable while without any superhuman abilities. In the second installment of the Westfield Brother, Ben Westfield finds himself in the alarming position of not being able to change into his wolf form during the full moon. In an effort to resolve this problem, he travels to Edinburough, Scotland to locate a healer (witch). Meanwhile, Elspeth Campbell, a healer has been warned by Caitrin, a seer that a beast will seek her out and take her away from her coven. Elspeth believes that the beast Cait refers to is her long absent father she has never met. This is the beginning of a wonderful adventure full of twists and turns that reveals what problems occur when people stubbornly attempt to shield the people they love from their perceived weaknesses. Tall, Dark and Wolfish is a funny and endearing love story between a man/ woman, friends and family. It is definitely a goodread.

I have to say that this one was a little harder for me to like. Only because of El's interactions with her coven. It was a lot of the same stuff over and over again: "He's gonna take ye away" and "I'm no' goin anywhere." After I got past that though it was just as good, if not better than, the first book.

I thought, "Oh now we're adding witches to the werewolf story," with a very sarcastic eyeroll (if you didn't get that from the sentence). Because in my experience, when you have a story that already has some paranormal aspect to it and than you add more it usually doesn't work. It feels.. overloaded, maybe that's the word I'm looking for. Some authors will build a world, like werewolves, and than add another, like witches, and it's just too much.

However, Lydia Dare did it in a way that made the story better and more interesting. It made you wonder not just about what would happen in Will's story, but would we be able to read about the other coven witches too!!

I will be reading this book again..and again. :)

Very strong 4.5 stars only reason it's not five is because I'm not sure I'll read it again. I laughed and I cried. Benjamin is a dear, however he tends to not do well when he means well. Poor guy. Elsbeth is his match, no doubt about it. There's a nice parallel story regarding her mother and her father. I liked this one even better than the first and I really liked that one.

Elsbeth is part of a coven of witches who each have a specialty. One controls weather, another plants, another can throw fireballs (and throws one at Ben) and Elsbeth is a healer like her mother. She is also part wolf due to her father who left before she was born and she's lived a life of rejection due to her bastard status.

This was a fun story with all the myriad characters and yet it was also poignant with its messages of acceptance and love.

Tapi masih sopan kok, ga begitu vulgar menurutQ :)

Another wolf in the Regency. Ben travels to Scotland in search of a healer to help him with his change. He finds a group of witches, one in particular, that can help bring back his beast. Elspeth, a healer, vows to help Ben even against her coven's wishes. What follows is a tangled web of revealed truths, love, and a healing that brings out the happiness in both of them. I thoroughly enjoyed Tall, Dark and Wolfish, even more so than the first in Ms. Dare's new series. I cannot wait to see what she has in store next.

Of the 3 books this was by far the most interesting for the reason that the supporting characters were interesting. I find it extremely hard to believe that the grandfather and mother would continue to pretend that Elspeth was illegitimate when there was no reason to do so. Made life hard and no other reason was given---hell, even a death bed declaration or something. And no good reason given for none of the letters getting to her father....yes in military but not in Antarctica. And as I said in book 1 review don't even know if I care for these brothers much...

2.5* Entertaining, but... Hero made some iffy comments about consent that bothered me. Heroine jumped to stupid conclusions and refused to talk them through like an adult. Then the hero was stupid again for the blatantly obvious solution to his problem. Not sure the hero came to terms with his wife's talents and that she got to choose her own risks, though she could've done a better job listening to his worries.

It's a mediocre historical romance with supernatural elements sprinkled on top that don't actually add any substance to the plot.

The first half of the book was by far the best. There was an interesting premise, werewolf needs a magical cure from a witch. They are both supernatural so we don't have to do the whole secret werewolf nonsense that dragged down the first book. Unfortunately, the book really doesn't go further than the premise, no searching for magical clues, no potential villain, or anything that would have made the story interesting. The heroine easily figures out the cure and its super easy and she has all the ingredients on hand, boring! There was a whole thing with the coven that never gets explored in any depth. The book goes downhill after they get married.

So keep in mind that every character has the maturity of a 12 year old. The entire second half of the book revolves around misunderstanding after miscommunication, and they respond in the most childish ways ever. Like when the hero gets a little aggressive because of his "beast" and thinks he hurt the heroine when she was only asking him to slow down. He's so upset he runs away for a flipping week and she's like dude, everything was fine, I just wish you had told me what to expect. So this idiot, who knows he can get aggressive sexually near the full moon just neglected to tell his wife and then throws a hissy fit about it. It was so tedious, every problem they had was easily solved with a simple conversation that they should have already had!

It felt like nothing happened in the book. It was mostly just boring.

Pretty much in tone with the first book, but slightly lower on the humor count, and slightly higher on the 'aggravating females' count (a whole flock of them).
If I was in a bit more irritable mood when I read this book it is entirely possible I would be going on a rant about how much I dislike these types of people who think they 'always know better' and have a right to interfere with and manipulate others' lives (friends, relatives, etc.)
The whole 'refusing to realise your own feelings' concept is also a bit too much of a tired cliche at this point, imho.
Other than that, I enjoyed this book because it's light, fun, has well-developed characters, and reads smooth and easy. Even when there's some concept I don't really like, it doesn't really ever get truly irritating.

I flew through this and have ordered the third in the series. As would be expected with a series, we are following the lives of three brothers. The first book marries off the oldest of the three. This book gives dimension to the youngest brother. He was spoken of in the first so the build up was there. And of course being a Westfield he is hard to resist. The second book also brings in new characters enabling us to see that there will be a spin off series that I am already looking forward to. If you like the regency era and want to add a little werewolf and witch into the mix then you may enjoy these.
