Loved it!💖

The Path to Dusk by Miri Castor is the third book in the Opal Charm series, but it’s not a sequel, it’s a prequel! After following Opal’s journey to Athre, we now go back a bit and revisit the fate of her older brother Jermaine. As we learned with Opal that her brother’s tragic fate was really his journey to the world of Athre, we now learn what happened to him in the time before he reconnected with his sister.

It was really cool to read about Jermaine’s journey and how things really turned out for him the way they did. Loved the contrast to Opal, the reluctant heroine, and how Jermaine is of course less jaded and without grief and jumps at the chance. Of course, that comes with great consequences! I also really enjoyed reading about his relationship with his sisters and how close he was with them. Family, blood and chosen, is one of my favorite parts of the series, it’s at the heart of it. And we’ve got a Black superhero family and Black teens are the chosen ones, we need more of this representation!
