A demigod ready to commit for eternity. A god who isn’t ready to commit at all. An unseen danger that may kill them both.
For centuries, I’ve traveled the realms, fighting wars, providing peace, causing havoc and everything in between. I’ve also sown my wild oats across those realms, taking pleasure when and where it’s offered. It’s a work hard, play harder lifestyle but I’m just the demigod to do it.
Zora is the god of Life but before that she was a mortal held captive, growing up without love or affection. Raised in the pits of Hell, she was a pawn in a sinister plan to destroy the world. Tossed into the life of an immortal deity, Zora is understandably closed off and confused about who she is and where she fits in. But the one place she fits perfectly is in my bed and the more time I spend with her, the more I’d like to keep her there permanently.
My attempts to win over the ethereal beauty are thwarted when a nefarious plan begins to unfold, leaving Zora missing and me scrambling to solve a mystery no one saw coming. As an immortal, time is of little importance but becomes a precious commodity where saving Zora is concerned.
I’ve lived centuries never knowing true love, but I know one thing with absolute certainty—Zora is what I need to complete my eternal life. Now I need to make sure she lives long enough to realize the same about me.

Tropes: ✔ Hero falls first ✔ standalone ✔ paranormal
The Ruin of Gods is a thrilling paranormal romance that kept me on the edge of my seat! Maddox is a fascinating character who for centuries served the gods working hard and playing harder portraying him as both alluring and dangerous. The god of Life, Zora, is a complicated character with a tragic past, and her confusion about her identity and place in the world adds depth to the story.
The chemistry between Zora and Maddox is electric, and their steamy scenes are sure to make readers blush. However, their relationship is not without challenges, as an unseen danger threatens to tear them apart. The mystery and suspense add an exciting element to the story, and the race against time to save the day had me eagerly turning the pages.
Sawyer’s writing style is engaging, and the world-building is vivid and immersive. The Ruin of Gods can be read as a standalone, but it is set within a larger series, which adds to the sense of adventure and opens up possibilities for future stories I can’t wait to read.
Overall, The Ruin of Gods is a must-read for fans of paranormal romance who enjoy a mix of action, romance, and suspense.

YAY! Zora’s story. Finally :) I loved it, as I love her - and I also loved how Maddox was when he was around her. There was a new threat in this installment, and it took a while for all the participants to understand what was going on, and also what needed to be done to have a chance to save the world(s). Again. Well written, fast-paced, with some amazing fight scenes and some sweet romantic ones as well, I really enjoyed this novel.
Zora has only been a God for a year, and she is still trying to figure things out, but one thing she has been enjoying is her time with Maddox, a demigod. She has been having an affair with Maddox since they met, but no one knows. That is until she feels her involvement with him will cause him danger, so she breaks things off; let's say this wasn't handled well.
Evils are at play here, and no one is safe, especially the gods. Will anyone figure out what is going on before the damage is done? Will Zora and Maddox get the HEA they so desperately deserve? Will Zora find her rightful place amongst the Gods? These questions are answered in THE RUIN OF GODS, and we will get even more answers in the next book, THE RIVEN THIEF, which is due out later this year.

Review:
Maddox has been nurturing feelings for Zora since he first met her. However, she is too busy struggling with her own feelings and with her role as a former human who lived all her life in the Underworld turned into the God of Life.
Just like all the books in this series, there is a powerful villain and they will have to join forces im order to do it. It’s always a pleasure to get to see some beloved characters from previous books like Amell (he is my all time favorite ❤️). I confess I had a hard time connecting with the FMC. Her apparent lack of feelings made me do not care for her as strongly as I felt for Maddox. He was just so patient and devoted (until he wasn’t), and I missed a bit more of groveling in the end because I’m always here for the groveling.
In the end, I enjoyed the book as a whole, the plot, the secondary characters, Maddox. I am also now excited for the next book that also seems to be the last one in this series. What happened to Lucien?
*** I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. ***
This author excels in writing fantasy romance novels! I was positively thrilled to see her diving back into The Chronicles of the Stone Veil world and even more excited when I discovered The Ruin of Gods would feature Zora and Maddox as a couple.
An expertly woven story, this novel was chalk full of adventure, intrigue, and steam. With impeccable character development, I adored Maddox and I grew to really like and understand Zora. These two make an unlikely couple, but they were so perfect together. Their uniqueness of character as well as their interactions with each other made this novel a delightful and swoon-worthy read. One of the things that I enjoyed is that this book is that it isn’t just a love story, but one that also possesses an intricate storyline where the author displays great attention to detail, spectacular world building, and edge-of-your-seat action.
While The Ruin of Gods is book 8 in this author’s The Chronicles of the Stone Veil series, I do believe that this novel could be read as a standalone. I do recommend that you start the beginning for the ultimate experience and also because this series is just that amazing. Having read the previous books in the series, I enjoyed being reunited with some of my favorite characters.
Rating: 4.5 stars
I voluntarily read an early version of this novel. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
The Ruin of Gods finally brings us the long-awaited story of Maddox. I wanted his story from the moment he was introduced. Every story has that happy-go-lucky guy that goes through life partying, drinking, and sexing anything he can and from book one of this series, that seemed to be Maddox’s role. He may have been introduced as kind of shallow, but you know he’s going to be a deep character. He’s that peripheral character that you pray has a book and that you root for during the entire series, and he book didn’t disappoint. There’s just something about a character whose charm, and charisma can jump off the page at you.
He’s a powerful demigod who fights hard and holds his own on the battlefield with the best of them; but he also lives by that old, “work hard, play hard”saying. He’s a master at playing hard. When he first encounters Zora after she’s been rescued from the underworld, he’s immediately attracted to her and wants her as his next playmate. But Zora keeps him coming back for more, and more includes a level of feelings/emotions/loyalty that that he’s only ever shown towards his demigod brothers, Carrick and Lucien. With Zora, Maddox finds himself wanting more and wanting to be more with her, but Zora proves to be his biggest obstacle.
Having spent her entire life being held captive and being tortured in the underworld, Zora is rescued by the twin sister she never knew she had, killed, and then made a God as reward for her sacrifices. Zora faces a number of challenges with this new life. She has no idea what actual love is or feels like. Unlike her fellow gods known as The Council, she was once human, which gives her feelings and emotions to deal with that they’ve never had to do. She basically has a conscience, so the harsh, rash, immediate, and unwavering decisions they make on a whim, don’t come so easy for her.
While it’s Maddox’s charm that grabs you, with Zora it’s her vulnerability, and lack of confidence that tugs at your heart. She realizes that Maddox wants more from her, but she has no idea how to give it to him. She struggles just as much with sharing herself with her sister, Finlay and the other gods/people in her life. The underworld left her more than a little broken; it left her with a huge emptiness she wants to fill but just doesn’t understand how.
Of course, no true love is gained without major drama, and Maddox and Zora have to fight their way back to each other.
I feel like the recurring theme in the entire story is vulnerability which touches everyone, even the untouchable Council.
These characters are written with a chemistry that’s felt immediately, emotions that are relatable, and a vulnerability that’s almost physically painful. I wasn’t expecting to get the self-awareness I got from the two of them, as well as the other characters from previous books.
Typically, the swoony part of a book or the grand gesture comes from the hero, but this time it comes from the heroine when Zora confesses to Maddox that she’s managed to do something she knows he’s wanted for a while, and with that we see that Zora knows what it means to love.
To get the full impact of every character, this series should definitely be read in order.
My favorite words in this book:
“The fact that you feel my pain is love Zora”. “Really? She asks….” I struggle so hard to get the words out …. You just used a lot of words to tell me you love me.”
4.5stars-THE RUIN OF GODS is the eighth instalment in Sawyer Bennett’s adult CHRONICLES OF THE STONE VEIL paranormal/fantasy/mythology series. This is demigod Maddox, and the god of Life and Death Zora’s story line. THE RUIN OF THE GODS can be read as a stand alone but for back story I recommend reading the series in order but more specifically books one to five where Zora’s story begins. Zora is the sister of Finley Porter books one to five.
SOME BACKGROUND: Abducted at birth, raised in the Underworld as a human, Zora knew nothing but darkness and hate until the day of her twenty-eight birthday where she will come face to face with the sister she never knew. Sacrificing her life to save her sister, Zora would awaken a goddess, a goddess who continues to battle between head and heart with what was and what will never be.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Zora and Maddox) THE RUIN OF GODS follows goddess Zorasha aka Zora, as she struggles with her new found powers. With the ability to revive the recently deceased but an ability that requires the consensus of the gods, Zora is hoping to save Maddox’s brother Lucien from eternal damnation in the Crimson River but all is not well with the veil between the Underworld and the First Dimensions, and the gods have other issues to consider in the wake of a potential war. Old enemies seem to rise from the dead or escape their magical prisons, and in this the gods are at risk including our story line heroine. What ensues is the ongoing but struggling relationship between Maddox and Zora, and the potential fall-out as the all powerful Blood Stone goes missing, and the fight for power forces Zora to consider everything going forward.
The relationship between Zora and Maddox is a friends to lovers to frenemies to broken hearts as Zora struggles with her direction going forward. For one year, since coming into her powers, Zora and the demigod Maddox have had a mutual agreement and attraction that is slowly destroying Zora’s heart. Zora is a goddess, wandering aimlessly through life, and she believes there is no place in her life for love or our story line hero. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and powerful gods and goddesses, Light and Dark Fae, many of whom we have me in the previous story lines: Zora’s sister Finley and her mate, King of the Underworld Carrick #1-5, Thalia and Bastien #6, Nyssa and Amell #7, as well as several gods and goddesses: Veda (god of Humanity) , Onyx (god of Conflict), Cato (god of Nature), Circe (god of Fate). The requisite evil is familiar and has many faces.
THE RUIN OF GODS is another complex and detailed story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, influence and magic, acceptance and love focusing on mythology, gods and goddesses, Fae and demons.. The fast paced premise is intriguing and captivating; the romance is seductive; the characters are powerful, mythological and often mad.
There are not enough words to describe just how much I love Sawyer Bennett's fantasy/paranormal series, Chronicles of the Stone Veil. THE RUIN OF GODS is the eighth installment and is the story of Maddox and Zora. Told in dual POVs, it kept me up until the wee morning hours, thoroughly engrossed by suspense, action, mystery, and romance. Of course, Ms. Bennett captivated me with her visual descriptions, superb world building, and wonderful characters.
Maddox is a demi-god, brother to Carrick, who have both served the Gods for thousands of years. He's brutal, loyal, dangerous, steadfast, honest, and totally smitten. Zora, once human, is now the God of Life. She's the twin sister to Finley (Carrick's wife), taken as a baby and raised in the Underworld, where she was horrendously abused and tortured. Her life has altered dramatically since becoming a God, yet she was struggling with who she was and where she fit in, her humanity at loggerheads with how she thought she should behave as a God.
The chemistry, attraction, and heat sizzles between Maddox and Zora. They have, what I can only call, a complicated and complex relationship. It is not unusual for a demi-god and God to be together, but there is 'more' between them. Maddox wants to take things further than what they currently share, he has admitted his true feelings, yet Zora is confused, she is unsure of what she is experiencing. Her decision about their situation, and the treatment given to Maddox leaves him broken, as well as herself.
While battling emotions and each other, Maddox and Zora must battle a new evil that has emerged, one that could cost lives ... and that's all I'm going to say about that. Suffice to say, there was numerous twists and turns, epic god-like battles, and plenty of passion, enough to keep me thoroughly captivated. This was a mesmerizing journey that had me constantly on the edge of my seat.
THE RUIN OF GODS can be read as a standalone, however I highly recommend reading the previous books, as they offer a lot of background to the story and the characters.
THE RUIN OF GODS is another wonderful addition to this unforgettable series.
This world that Sawyer Bennett has created, of light and dark fae creatures, gods and immortals and all mystical realms, all seems as real to me as the world in which I live. I have become enmeshed in the struggles of demons and demigods and marvel at how she has crafted a dimension in such detail that I feel as if I know these creatures and have been with them on their journey from the very start.
The Ruin of Gods is not a stand alone, but rather one stop on the telling of the Chronicles of the Stone Veil. It is Maddox and Zora’s story, and it is told perfectly, allowing us to get to know these two immortals and see their role in furthering the saga.
From helping to save Zora from the Underworld while she was still mortal to the present time, after her death and reincarnation as the God of Life and Death, Maddox has been enamored with Zora. He has been a constant presence and a familiar figure, which is utterly confusing for her. After all, what does a goddess that has never been shown love really know about caring for another? Tasked with awesome responsibilities and power, Zora questions whether she can truly feel such a particularly human emotion as love.
Maddox is the opposite. He has never been mortal, yet this demigod knows he is falling for the newest god in the pantheon. He cares for her and can’t imagine eternity without the woman that is strong enough to destroy an entire society or save an entire race of people, but still vulnerable enough to fear losing her heart when it isn’t returned.
This story is a true ride. It’s fast paced, engaging and totally unpredictable for the reader. And yet, it’s clear that the author has had the saga figured out start to finish. One book flows so seamlessly into the other and sets the stage for the next couple, the next adventure and the next night I stay up way past my bedtime reading. I am typically not a fan of paranormal romances, and yet I’m hooked. The writing is smart, the women amazingly strong, and the men are caring and brave. This series is the total package and The Ruin of Gods one more fantastic detour along the way.
This is yet another fantastic addition to Sawyer Bennett’s “Chronicles of the Stone Veil” series!
Maddox, brother to Carrick & fearless Demigod, and Zora, the “New to the position” of “God of Life” (and Death), are really a dynamic, yet complex, pair. Maddox has been a Demigod for like a million years, but Zora, who is Carrick’s wife, Finley’s, twin sister, had a much, much different upbringing. Zora was cursed to live in the Underworld when she was born, and it’s only recently that she’s become the God of Life because of the role she played in helping save the Human World from a war with the evil Kymaris, Queen of the Underworld.
Zora is having a hard time adjusting & getting used to being a God with her newfound powers. She feels lost, but she also finds it hard to ask for help from either Finley or Maddox. After living in the Underworld for 28 years, Zora is a little overwhelmed and a little unsure of her place when she sits on the dais with her fellow “Sisters & Brother” (a.k.a. The other Gods).
Her “Relationship“ with Maddox is complicated too. He, technically, is charged to do her bidding, though they have sexual chemistry that’s off the charts. She’s decides to stop seeing Maddox because she made a decision on her own about something that the Gods usually all have to all agree upon. Zora is worried about retaliation for her actions from one of the other Gods and that the retaliation would be to hurt Maddox, whom they all know she cares for. Maddox is furious & destroys her with saying a diatribe of hurtful things.
All the while, there is a problem happening in another Realm that is much bigger than anyone could have foreseen…….
I absolutely loved this book, this series, these characters, EVERYTHING! If you want to get lost in multiple dimensions/worlds, then this is the series for you!
OMG what a ride this book was. After reading all the books in this series I'm seriously considering going all P/N from this point on. The dance between Zora and Maddox has been a fun journey to follow. I fell for the Demigod since the first book and I was super excited to see if the fling would turn out to be more. And Sawyer Bennett did not disappoint.
I could relate to well with Maddox> and the feeling of loving someone and the person not loving you back or feeling like they don't. And imagine being immortal beside that. When she pushed him away, he had little choice but to accept her decision. And at this point was where i fell for Zora too.
She was struggling with her new role as a God. It was because of this that she thought that pushing Maddox away would make that job easier. But when the dark power rises again and threatens to destroy everything, she finally realizes that her love for him is what makes her stronger and she's determined to remove the threats and confess her feelings. But that would turn out to be not an easy job. And the fact that she had to go to him at the end of the day to plead her case? I'm not gonna lie, that felt right and good :)
As said in the beginning I'm addicted to this series and I'm excited to see what comes next.

4.5☆ I really enjoyed The Ruin of Gods! It was really interesting and kept me hooked the whole way through. Zora is an intriguing character. She's been thrust into this new role as a god after having been in the underworld for basically all of her life. She's unsure about a lot of things in her life right now because of all the changes. She needs to find her footing and get a solid grasp on her life and everything it entails now as a god. I enjoyed being in her head and understanding where she's coming from and how she thinks things through. I'm proud of her for everything she does in the book and all the progress she makes. She's a very strong individual, and she has a big heart. She just doesn't always see it that way. Maddox is a great character as well. I've always enjoyed him and found him entertaining and intriguing. Zora throws him off balance and makes him experience new things. They're an interesting pairing. I wouldn't have put them together earlier in the series, but now, after reading this book, I think they make perfect sense together. I really enjoyed the storyline of this book, it was filled with twists and turns. I did feel like the end was quite sudden. I would have liked a little more of Zora and Maddox together before it ended. I can't wait for the next book now!! *I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.*
"You make me weak, Maddox. This new life I've been granted is harsh and unforgiving. I cannot afford to care for you because it will make my life difficult."
Maddox, a demi-god, and Zora are in a clandestine relationship that began when she was still human. Now one of the five gods, Zora struggles to find her place amongst them, as she fights to overcome her doubts and insecurities. She's unique in that she's the only that was human before, so she's trying to find her footing as the powerful god of life and death, whilst coming to terms with her humanity and all the human feelings she harbours. At the same time, there's mischief afoot in the realms.
Maddox has my heart! I loved him hard. I adored him in the previous novels, as he's beautiful, flirty and lovable, but he really got me as his feelings for Zora were true and obvious. The chemistry between them was hot, hot, hot! I felt for him as Zora seemed to blow hot and cold. However, I felt for her, too, as she worked through her feelings and her relationship not just with Maddox, but also the other people in her life, and came to understand that she was just as powerful as the other gods.
As usual, this author has delivered a gorgeous romance, stunning fantasy worlds, and a plot that keeps you hooked. Can't wait for more in this series.
This is book 9 in the Chronicles of the Stone Veil series and I would absolutely read the previous books before reading this book. In this one, we get Maddox and Zora's story. Zora was once a mortal and is now a God, it's her reward for everything that she sacrificed in her life. Maddox is the proverbial playboy, jolly demigod. These two have this attraction but they also are learning that the other could be exactly what they need to go through life. But then you throw in the evil they are all fighting, and now they both have to decide if they are willing to take the chance on the other being hurt. Or worse.
I have been wanting this story for so long, and it in no way disappointed! Zora has been through so much, and while she has come out the other side. She still struggles with her new normal and how to reconcile it with her past. Maddox has this effortless charm that you can't help but love, but he also has more to him that I definitely wasn't expecting. Throwing them together, they are perfect for each other and compliment each other in ways I didn't see coming. I loved how everything in this story came together, but I also loved how you get to see other characters and have everything start to get set up for them as well. Definitely a series well worth the time of reading!
I'm typically not a fantasy/paranormal reader, but I have loved the Chronicles of the Stone Veil series and The Ruin of Gods was another great addition!
Zora, who was once a mortal, who is now the god of life, is battling her insecurities as she figures out where she fits in in her new life. Maddox is a demigod who has been a playboy for centuries, but he has finally found something in Zora that makes him want only her. It's clear there is something special between the two of them and Maddox would do just about anything for Zora, but she can't let herself feel enough to let go and just be what Maddox wants her to be and what she really wants to be to him.
Mix the complications of their personal relationship with all of the bad guys who are trying to wreck havoc on the realms and they are not only fighting for their relationship, but also so much more.
These books have a way of pulling you in right from the start. As I said at the beginning, I am not typically one to read this genre, but I always find myself sucked right back into this fictional world and enjoying every minute!
**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title in exchange for an honest review**
I absolutely freaking love this series. Maddox is a demi-God who is immortal and in lust with the newest God, Zora, God of Life and Death. She is also the twin sister of his brother and his sister-in-law. She was killed in the war to end the earth but was granted life as a God when the then God was imprisoned because he was plotting against everyone. Okay, now you are up to date (really go back and read the previous books if you haven't you will not be disappointed!). Zora has been having a hard time trying to figure out what she is supposed to do with her power and feeling like a poser as a God and literally pushes Maddox away because she is afraid the other Gods will use him against her. When there is a fight for good against evil (cryptic, yeah read the book!) who will win. Will Maddox be able to save the day even when all the Gods have gone missing. I read this book in practically one sitting because it was so good! Yes, it can be read as a standalone but why oh why would you want to!
**Received the ARC for this one but would have bought it any way and most likely will on release day**
If I’m honest Fantasy/paranormal are not my go to genre but this series has taken over my life. I cant get enough of the Chronicles of the Stone Vail Series by Sawyer Bennett and Zora and Maddox’s journey is the perfect addition to this wonderful series. From the moment I picked this book up I was on the edge of my seat because when a woman who was once human but is now a god of life and a man who is a demi-god collide, sparks fly. They are opposites and they should not be together but the attraction they feel takes over and all logic goes out the window. So can their relationship work, you will need to one click to find that out. The Ruin of Gods is a captivating, entertaining read with twists and turns you don’t see coming. It will keep you on the edge of your seat as you watch this couple who should not work find love. There is something for everyone in this great read because this journey has the perfect mix of danger, passion, mystery and intrigue. I loved the characters and I love my visits to the Stone Vail World.
This book gives us Maddox, the demigod's story. Maddox has lived a very wild, fun and promiscuous life so far but lately his life has revolved around Zora, the new god of Life and Death. Maddox knows because of things from Zora's past that she is reluctant to settle down but he is ready. When Zora disappears things get really crazy. Now Maddox is having to work with Amell, Carrick, and Finley to try and find out what has happened to Zora. It will take everything this group has to save Zora and even more to convince Zora that Maddox is the forever she really needs.
OMG I just loved Maddox's story and that cover is beyond gorgeous! Maddox is such a strong fighter and when pushed, becomes even better. They way he felt about Zora he was not giving up on her and proved that over and over again. I really enjoyed this story line....there was enough mystery to keep you guessing along with enough relationship times. Great addition to this series and I cannot wait to find out what has been happening with Lucien, the third demigod.
My perfect escape! The book is even better than I expected, and I was anticipating being swept off my feet. I was so caught up in the story, that I felt like I should have a say in what happens. I mean, the gods are jerks who make things so much harder than they need to be! And then there is Maddox. There is nothing better than a hot demi-god with a tough exterior and a sensitive side. Maddox has been doing the bidding of the gods for a thousand years. It is about time he finds love and happiness. Zora has been though hell and back (literally) and is now learning how to be a goddess. They love each other, but everything else seems to get in the way. The story is passionate, action packed, and absolutely enchanting. It is so hard not to fall in love with the characters. I thought that no one would top Carrick, but then Amell came along, now Maddox… each just keeps getting better and better.
Finally, Maddox the snarky, hunky demigod and Zora, the newly created God of Life, get their story. And what a story it is…Maddox has had the feels for Zora for some time but given her previous life, death and rebirth as a God, she has a lot of mixed emotions about everything. Yes, she is attracted to Maddox but her insecurities about her new status are preventing her from going all in. Not only is she unsure about Maddox, she is still working her way through her relationship with her sister Finley and her brother in law Carrick. In the midst of all this, dark forces are gathering and everything could turn bad unless they all work together and figure out how to fight the most powerful enemy any of them have seen. I loved the way all of the previous protagonists have pivotal roles in this book and how Maddox and Zora eventually get their HEA. Plus, there is a big surprise at the end making one pretty anxious for the next book in the series!
The Ruin of Gods: A Chronicles of the Stone Veil Novel, Book 8. This is Zora and Maddox’s story. Zora is the God of Life and Maddox is a demigod. And sparks fly when they get together!
I love Zora and Maddox’s story! I was left with a happy feeling at the end of this book. The only thing is I want more! I wasn’t ready for “the end”. I am ready for the next and I think the last book in this series even though each of the books within this series are standalones.
I love that I think Sawyer Bennett can write in any genre and I know I am going to get a good book!
Oh and do you think the cover model looks a little like Henry Cavill from The Witcher? The cover for books doesn't usually sell me on a book but I have to admit the cover for this book is perfect.
This installment of the Chronicles of the Stone Veil pulled me in and wouldn’t let go! This story is sequential to the other books in the series and the series really does need to be read in order for the full effect (why this is 4 stars and not 5).
Zora and Maddox have played key roles as secondary characters in previous books and it was entertaining to get to know them better here. Much like Carrick before him, Maddox is more layered than he first appears. Zora is struggling to find her place and that adds complexity to things that are to come.
This is a fast paced story that builds on the world previously created and lays ground work for things that may be coming in the future. Interesting characters, intrigue, action, and whopper of a grand gesture make this an un put downable addition to the series.
Maddox is a demigod that has lived for decades. His main job in life is to do the bidding of the gods. Which has worked well until recently. Lately he has been having a relationship with a new god, Zora. He has found someone he wants to spend his life with. The only problem is that Zora isn't sure she feels the same way. Zora grew up in the Underworld. She was tortured for her powers. She didn't have a normal up bringing and because of that she isn't sure where she fits in. She became a god after making the ultimate sacrifice. Now being a young god she doesn't know her role. One thing is for sure is that something is brewing. Even though she can't put her finger on it she knows it is big. Life changing. Although you don't have to read the other books in this series it will be more enjoyable if you do. We get updates on the other characters from the series.
Hooked, that was me from the get-go. I’m loving this supernatural series from Sawyer Bennett, and seeing Zora, the god of life, who was once a mortal-being, battle her insecurities to find her place amongst the gods is oh so entertaining. It also helps that her love interest, Maddox, the demigod who has been an eternal playboy for centuries, is the perfect mix of alpha, possessive, and loving. Just a shame Zora won’t allow herself to feel. Add in numerous attempts from the bad guys to make their lives a living hell, and you have the perfect paranormal action romance. Lots of romance, sexy time, action and suspense. I loved it. I received an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest review.
The love story between Maddox and Zora is amazing. Zora is trying to deal with being the new God of Life and Death while also just being a person not stuck to a life in the Underworld. Maddox is an ageless demigod who has never felt anything for any woman before Zora. And that is just where it starts. These two must figure out a relationship together while also stopping the previous God of Life and Death from getting his powers back. But the best parts of the book for me were Zora realizing how she feels and that it is alright to feel something for Maddox. That he won't hurt her and that they are actually meant to be together. I am honestly loving this series so much and I can't wait to find out what happened to the Book of Shadows. *I received an ARC for an honest review*
Sawyer Bennett is one of the only authors that make me love her paranormal books as I don’t even think of them as paranormal. I get so caught up in her universe that it all feels real to me. Zora and Maddox….what can I say but I loved them as a couple. Zora, a god, is so confused about “feelings” that she doesn’t know how to express herself. Maddox loves her so much but wants more from her. She “thinks” she can’t have whatever she was feeling, and you know there is going to be trouble all the way. The rest of the cast are great this world and I can picture them and this realm. Another fantastic read
I never thought I would see this tender side of Maddox. But Zora needs to be treated delicately until she finds her footing. And what a way to find it! Plus is Maddox really is a sexy Demigod.
One thing that is a little bothering is that I found a few explanations of the past being repeated more than once. It doesn't take away from enjoying the book but it's noticeable. Even more so because I'm invested in their journey so I'm not forgetting what was mention in previous chapters. BUT I really like that this story gives the chance to feel empowering with the inclusion of an impending doom, some action, some hard truths, and a dosage of humbling to some very powerful Gods.
No, I did not read the first 7 books of this series. And, I don't plan to do so. I got the gist of the whole series already just by reading this one. The only thing I hate about this is the author is building towards more books for the series, and makes it so obvious, because Ruin of Gods ended so abruptly. It's a HFN ending - the MCs reconcile in the last 3 or 4 pages of the e-book I bought. It was just.... annoying, to be honest. Oh, and the connection between the MCs wasn't so hot. The male MC fell harder and faster for his counterpart, then vice-versa. Maddox, I liked. Zora - meh. She wasn't bad. Her character's very well-written, in fact. Together? They're just meh.
This series is one of my absolute favorites in the fantasy/paranormal romance genre. Sawyer has created such an amazing world with wonderfully deep characters that always makes for quite an enjoyable story. This time we have Zora, the goddess of life and a sexy demigod named Maddox. Theirs is a such a complicated relationship but one you will definitely become invested in from the get-go and continue rooting for them through everything. I love both of them so much and couldn’t get enough of their story. As always I look forward to more in this fantastic series.
I knew I would love this series from book one and now book eight shows how it has gotten me more hooked then ever. Maddox a demigod and Zora new God of Life have a push and pull relationship that makes you see that no matter your status in life there can always be turmoil. Seeing that there is upheaval in the realm has everyone coming together once again to save not only the Gods but all the different worlds but there will be so many obstacles confronting them that can it work or will it fail.
