Dragon Born, the first book in The Dragon Goddesses series by Victoria Asher, is an engaging blend of paranormal romance and fantasy romance that offers a refreshing take on the genre. From the very beginning, the story drew me in with its mix of mystery, danger, magic, and heartfelt romance.
The story follows Missy, an orphaned young woman whose life changes dramatically after being rescued from a terrifying kidnapping. As she discovers hidden powers and learns the truth about her heritage, she must also face dark forces determined to control or destroy her. The mystery surrounding her abilities and destiny kept me eagerly turning pages to see what would happen next.
Missy's journey is both emotional and compelling. The trauma she endures feels real, and her struggle to understand herself without guidance or support is both frustrating and heartbreaking. Watching her grow from a frightened captive into a stronger, more confident woman was one of the highlights of the book. Brandon is a wonderful counterpart to her character—loyal, courageous, and determined to protect the woman he believes is his fated mate. Their romance develops quickly, but their connection feels genuine, and they complement each other perfectly.
The plot is filled with action, suspense, and plenty of twists as Missy becomes the target of dangerous enemies once again. This book feels like it sits somewhere between paranormal romance and fantasy romance, which made it a different experience from many books in the genre. The story follows an orphaned heroine who is rescued from a kidnapping and taken in by a family. Over time, those bonds deepen, and the relationship evolves from one of belonging and trust into romance.
The plot has quite a bit of back and forth, especially when the heroine is targeted again because of her powers. This creates plenty of tension and keeps the story moving. I found the characters engaging and enjoyed seeing how they navigated the challenges they faced.
Overall, this isn't a typical paranormal romance, but that's part of what makes it interesting. If you're looking for a story that blends paranormal and fantasy elements with an unconventional romance, this one is worth a look.

The struggles that Missy had to go through to survive her abductor was so brutal and the way the story was Written made it feel so real.
The emotions that Missy experienced was so humanly trying to understand her aliment with no support is so frustrating.
The is a fast pace romance that unfolds between Missy and Brandon.

Dragon Born, book one of the Dragon Goddesses series, by Victoria Asher was full of action, suspense, and romance. Brandon knew his fated mate was out there, and would stop at nothing to find her. Missy, was special, but didn't know how special until Brandon rescued her then claimed her as his mate. Unfortunately, there are forces that don't want them to live together, happily ever after.
