The Federation controls the minds of its citizens with patterns in embedded in television pictures and monitors their activities using the world's most powerful computer. An ace programmer, Richard Adams, who killed a friend while under mind control, is enlisted by the opposition to use his skills to bring their own slate to power on election day. Under threat of death if he refuses to cooperate, Richard has to hide his work from The Federation's security police and protect himself from the intrigue of other forces who are also trying to seize control.

If you liked 1984 by George Orwell you will enjoy this one too. It's speculation about a future where the government controls the population through mass mind control is fascinating.
