This work serves as a guidebook for every step of the writing process. Emphasizing both process and practice, with a focus on revision, the second edition helps to apply and advance writing skills using John Langan's proven techniques.
From an educator's standpoint, this textbook is merely average. I find myself arguing with many of the answers it considers correct to its exercises, and sometimes on what it is teaching the student is correct punctuation. It may be a question of style more than practice, but still. The text redeems itself somewhat by including a mini guide to citation. Its main redeeming quality is that it has a good selection of readings to use as examples of different types of essays. I read the third edition for this review.
