First Steps

Little did I know how much my life would change when I went to work at Coffee’s Market. I’d quit my paper route the month before after deciding I wanted an hourly job.I learned about working with others, helping people in need, and came to know and trust Steve Coffee like a grandfather. I also became friends with the ‘first’ most beautiful girl I saw at Coffee’s. My parents, the Coffee’s, and a few teachers helped me and my friends cross the line between snitching and trusting yourself to do what is necessary to save a friend, even at the cost of losing him.My grandson asked me what it was like when I was his age, 15, and got my first job. This is my answer from the first four months or working at Coffee’s.
