While I can't say this book was bad, everything about it was confusing. For that reason I'm going to do an overall review rather than a categorical one. First was the setting. Unless they mentioned the clothing choices I would have never guessed this was set so long ago and I spent a large portion of the short trying to figure out why the author set it in this time period. I mean admittedly I don't want to read about a woman typical of the time but really nothing was typical. For the heroine to be so odd in such a high profile way would have been a bad idea at that time. Her father made no effort to normalize her which would be rather unlikely. Further even the historical romances i do like have heroines that are nervous about their first time...they dont just go plunging into it. I did find it intriguing that there was a scene where the couple doesn't have magical simultaneous orgasms since it's out of the norm for romance/erotica books. But then there was weird stuff like him "delving deeper into her tight clit." Um does she know what that is? Because the clitoris is rather small I don't see any way there could be delving and is there a such thing as a loose clit? The hero was also a study in contrasts. First he'd be sweet and protective then he'd say things like mortals were only good for blood and bodies. Or how about the mortal heroine managed to kill 24 vamps by herself with just a scratch to show for it? And she's been missing for weeks where in the world did everyone think she was?! The vampire mythology was super scattered it seemed everyone had different powers but was it a personal thing...an age thing? Literally nothing is explained in a satisfactory manner. I don't want to say i disliked this short because I actually did find the story rather interesting but it definitely could have been better. First, it needed alot more focus and explanation. Second, it either needed to be set in a more modern time so i didn't spend the whole thing wondering if i misread the date, or it needed to fit more with the time period it was set in. I can't really recommend this one either way so read at your own risk but at the very least its a quick one
