An Award-winning Saga to Stand Proudly Beside the Best of Thomas B. Costain
The Path of Destiny is the tempestuous epic of a nation's thrust to greatness. Stirring action explodes from its pages, and heroes of towering stature come powerfully alive.
What a delightfully written book, this 3rd volume of Canadian history. What fun to read about the War of 1812 which, although the British managed to burn Washington D.C, was almost a farce of poor generalship on both sides. The Brits, when hugely outnumbered by the Americans, would place their Indian allies deep in the woods to make much noise, sounding like far more fighters than actually existed. The larger American forces would run away as quickly as possible.
This entire volume was filled with wonderful tales of rivalries between the Canadian people and the U.S., and between the Canadian residents and the European governors sent out to manage them, and between different factions of the Canadians themselves. I was sorry when I finished the book, but I'm looking forward to the 4th volume. Highly recommended!
