R. A. Hutchins is a British author of both cosy murder mysteries and even cosier romance. What her books all share in common, though, is a strong sense of place and strength of community as well as an endearing cast of characters. In Rachel's contemporary romance, you can normally find themes of hope and new beginnings, loss and mental health, though her characters are always guaranteed their happily ever after and her stories have more than a splash of heady romance! Rachel's favourite hobbies are reading, walking along the beach with her family, visiting new places, and seeing her flowers grow in the spring and summer months. Rachel particularly enjoys going out for coffee and cake when it also involves catching up with good friends. Now living in northeast England, Rachel has fond memories of the nine years she spent in Scotland.

In the 7th book of this cozy mystery series, Flora, Tanya, Betty and Jean are off on what would have been Flora and Adam's honeymoon to Lillymouth. On the way, Flora discovers a couple of stowaways!
Once they reach their hotel, the fun and games start, with accomodation not being what was expected and when a baking class goes wrong, Flora feels the holiday is doomed, but that's not the least of her problems.
Each book is a standalone mystery but the books are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and series.
This book and one of the characters we meet, the vicar, Daisy Bloom, starts a new series of books by the same author, The Lillymouth Mysteries; the first book being Fresh as a Daisy. I'm going to be downloading it as soon as I finish the books released so far in this series.
I loved revisiting Flora and her friends in this instalment of the Baker's Rise Mysteries. Although I was a little upset not to be in Baker's Rise, it was fun to see the characters outside of their usual setting. With another mystery to solve, Flora and her friends leave you turning the pages wanting to discover what's happened.
I have enjoyed all of these books and I realize Reggie is necessary for fighting the bad guys but I almost quit reading this one in the middle. I wanted to say Put the bird in the carrier and shut him up. It felt ridiculous that in the midst of murders, anybody would tolerate his antics. I finished it, though, after reading another book for a couple of days, and I may read the next, but this bird is very aggravating.
Once again, Flora and Reggie stumble, literally!, onto murder and mayhem. This time, they're with three friends at a seashore village. Baking classes, a mother-son duo and several suspicious characters. And Reggie makes a friend, sort of. Onto book eight and the spin-off series.
