An introduction to Christian theology as a coherent system of beliefs founded on the sovereignty of God and the infallibility of Scripture. Contents: 1. Theology, 2. Scripture, 3. God, 4. Man, 5. Christ, and 6. Salvation.
Overall, I liked the book. There are a few issues I have, though. The glib dismissal of cessationism was a bit disconcerting. With a wave of his hand, Cheung has consigned millions of devout Christians, not to mention theologians far superior to himself, to ignorant rebellion. I'm never a fan of any glib dismissal of your opponents view. If the opposing view is wrong, argue it and prove it, don't just brush it off as unworthy of your attention. Secondly, Cheung is a bit too self referencing for my taste. Surely there are other writers who have trod this material to whom he is indebted.
Although there were some things that I disagreed with...such as hatred for sinners (which was still backed up with Scripture), Cheung did a great job of putting forth an understanding for why the Bible is an authoritative source in philosophical prose. The whole book flowed smoothly and I enjoyed reading through it despite its length.
Up until now, I had been 70/30 for Calvinism, but after reading this book and seeing the overwhelming evidence for why Calvinism is the true and biblical position, I am convinced. If you struggle with the tents of calvinism, I highly recommend this book. I can't wait to read more systematic theology in the near future!
