Kaplan & Sadock Sinopsis de psiquiatría de llega a su décima edición con el objetivo de seguir fomentando la excelencia profesional de los psiquiatras en activo y la asistencia de calidad a los enfermos mentales. Todos los factores biológicos, psicológicos y sociológicos que concurren en las personas afectadas de una enfermedad mental se consideran y presentan en el texto con igual ambición de exhaustividad, característica que ha contribuido a mantener la reputación de objetividad, independencia y coherencia de este texto en el campo de la psiquiatría. El libro responde a las necesidades de distintos grupos de profesionales: psiquiatras y médicos de otras especialidades, estudiantes de medicina, psicólogos, trabajadores sociales, enfermeras de psiquiatría y otros profesionales de la salud mental y terapeutas. También puede ser de gran ayuda para no profesionales que busquen una guía seria y acreditada para, por ejemplo, colaborar en la asistencia de un familiar o amigo con una enfermedad mental. El texto ha sido completamente revisado para esta edición, revisión que ha supuesto la reelaboración de algunos capítulos y secciones y la ampliación de otros. Se ha respetado, sin embargo, el tradicional interés de los autores por ocuparse de cuestiones sociales, sociopolíticas y legales (ingreso en instituciones mentales, opciones laborales, etc.), habitualmente descuidadas, que el profesional debe conocer en tanto que afectan a las condiciones de la asistencia prestada a los enfermos mentales en cada momento. Con la misma filosofía práctica, la mención a los fármacos utilizados en psiquiatría se hace desde la perspectiva de su actividad farmacológica, mecanismos de acción y aplicación en la práctica clínica, no desde su adscripción a determinada categoría farmacológica. Finalmente, cabe destacar que el libro incluye y utiliza la clasificación del DSM-IV-TR, sin olvidar sin embargo la correspondencia de cada tipo de trastorno con la clasificación de la CIE-10.

This wouldn't be a great book for general reading or non professionals. However, if you work in Mental Health, this is a great investment. It takes the DSM and translates into usable, understandable language. I still use this book in my practice today.

Ok, So I have not read it all. I just read a few chapters required by a course I was taking. I rather enjoyed it. It has a lot of insight. But it is A LOT of insight, and I think one should come back and re-read it (or take summaries and survey them) now and then.

از اول دانشگاه تاحالا این بهترین و جامع‌ترین کتابی بود که دیدم. یه کتاب بسیار قوی و کاربردی برای روانپزشکیه و ازش یک عالمه مطلب میشه یاد گرفت. ویرایش دوازدهم با ترجمه عالی دکتر فرزین رضایی رو بخونید حتما.

there are a few books in Med school that I actually bothered to read and like with much gusto. This one is personal, I like it not because it is helpful but because it can pass as a leisure read. The first copy I had, I had it hardbound. Then someone stole it, so I bought another one while I was already a resident in Surgery. It doesn't hurt to try to profile my patient according to the DSM category.

Amazing book. Comprehensive information on most of the psychiatric disorders. The size of the book intimidates, but once you start reading it; it's difficult to put down. The best part is, it's not 'text-bookish'.
