Life had been going swimmingly, as life usually does in Hampton Cove, when suddenly disaster struck. Odelia had scheduled a surprise visit to Vena Aleman. Vena is our local vet, and a master at inflicting pain and suffering. And as it happens she was about to have a field day, for I'd been troubled by a toothache, and this fact had not escaped Vena.
So when those awful abductions happened I should have seen them coming, but I was still under the influence of my pain meds. Is it any wonder, then, that Dooley and I were captured by those awful catnappers? I blame Vena, to be honest, though of course that fiendish woman would deny all responsibility, and blame everything on the bad guys.
Add to that Grandma Muffin chomping at the bit to pick a fight with Tex, Odelia chasing the story of a lifetime when the local sausage store ran out of sausages, and you can see why I felt compelled to share these harrowing events with you, dear reader. Will there be a happy end, you ask? Well, that would be telling, wouldn't it, and I'm not a spoilsport.

When he’s not writing he enjoys curling up with a good (comic) book, watching British crime dramas, French comedies or Nancy Meyers movies, sampling pastry (apple cake!), pasta and chocolate (preferably the dark variety), twisting himself into a pretzel doing morning yoga, going for a run, and spoiling his big red tomcat Tommy.

He lives with his wife (and aforementioned cat) in a small village smack dab in the middle of absolutely nowhere and is probably writing his next ‘Mysteries of Max’ book right now.

Always check the list

Another good read although a bit off putting if you are a dedicated meat lover. Nice to see Max and Dooley as heros but Harriet is the same loveable tyrant as always. In a lot of ways she's very similar to Gran.
The trouble began with the disappearances of some residents and then the cats went missing. Yes they had had a disagreement about their food (which they blamed on Max and his unfortunate teeth) but Gran was standing firm. After her row about the foldable smartphone she wasn't giving in an inch. Then there is the deficit of the well loved sausage in the shops. No-one can buy any for love or money and the two who made it had told them it would take a couple of weeks to produce. Secret ingredients, a captive Alec, a breakout and all hell breaking loose. Will they find out why cats have gone missing and why there are several adults and two children locked up in the 'dungeons'? What effect will this have on the eating habits of the town?

Purrfect Trap

A little suspenseful, a little disgusting and a little freaky. Loved this book and am waiting anxiously for the next one! I've fallen in love with Max, Dooley, Harriet and Brutus. With their distinctive personalities and some bickering, they work together as a team and really care for each other under it all.
This story has a new twist and a few surprises. Everyone loves the Duffer sausages. When the butchers run out of the sausage, the town goes crazy. Odelia finds out why near the end of the book.
A spooky house is prominent from the beginning of the story. It becomes scarier as the story continues but you need to read through to the end to find out how freaky it really is.

Duffer Deprivation

The brothers Duffer make a melt in your mouth saucisse from a recipe passed through generations of Duffers. They are very popular in Hampton Cove and beyond. Calamity occurs when the Duffer supply trickle out. With a new production plant trying to work out tech issues, no new Duffers are being made.
The town is in an uproar but there are also strange disappearances of humans, including Police Chief Alec, and cats being rounded up by the vanful. As part of the sweep, our fearless feline foursome working with feral Clarise toplan an escape for felines & the humans.
This story is a wee bit darker in. tone but still has funny and heartwarming storylines. It can be read as a stand-alone book but I betcha you'll want to read the whole series.

All the cats are missing?!

Talking cat mysteries might not be for everyone, but I just love Max and his friends and all the crazy scenarios they find themselves in! This one might just be the zaniest ever!! Yes, as all the cats start disappearing, so do people, including the Police Chief and the recent big lottery winner. Add into the mix a shortage of the famous “Duffers” (local sausage, oh excuse me, “sauciasse”) and their poor little town is about to burst into flames! Will Odelia and Chase ever get to the bottom of this crazy mystery? A delightful read with a very surprising ending.

Odelia thinks she has a big story to cover when a local meat market runs out of their beloved Duffer sausages. However, when several people go missing, along with most of the cats in Hampton Cove, she turns her attention to solving the disappearances. But this time, she’ll have to do it without the help of her own cats; they’re missing, too.

This was not entertaining; it was awful. I put two and two together early and hoped I was coming up with five, but no. I was correct in my assumption. The fact that nobody died (neither a cat nor a person) does not excuse the atrocity.

Horrifying. Do yourself a favor and skip this one. It’s getting one star from me, because I can’t give it zero.

Entertaining Read

Entertaining read. So funny, I find myself just laughing out loud. The main characters including the humans are so well written. Max and Dooley are so cute and the banter between them just brings the storyline/ plot together. And as for Clarisse; what a gem! Highly recommend.

Excellent mystery

Who knew that some friends would come into town and start snatching cats and people too. Max and the gang with Clarice's help ended up saving the day. Cannot wait for the book in this series.

Best yet (until the next book)

Love this story! Figured out the recipe (though not measurements) but kept my interest nonetheless! There is a lot of imagination in that Saint family!

The mystery itself wasn't all that bad. I would probably have given it a 4. But the ending is so disgusting that it left me sick to my stomach. Unfortunately, you can't unread those last two chapters. This series has been uneven, but this is a new low.

I love this Max mystery series!

Each book is so much fun to read. Lots of
drama, humour and cats. This one was pretty
easy to figure out. Some twists and turns, but
fairly easy to keep up with. Nonetheless I enjoyed
It immensely.

Disappearing cats and sausages

Odelia and Chase have to find the disappearance of several people and kids from town and see if there is a connection to the absence of the town's cats.

While the plot was a bit farfetched (sausage made from cats and humans) it was a fun read. I chuckled a bit and enjoyed the mindless reading of a cute book with cool cats. Looking forward to reading book 16.

will Max and friends make it to the end of this book?

I was pretty sure they would… but then they proved me wrong a couple times.
It is definitely a thriller that I was not expecting.

Ok

Not as good as the rest of the series. No real mystery and also unnecessary bad behavior by the family.

Dumb Dumb Dumb

This was the dumbest and most implausible plot I have ever read and I have read the 14 previous books. Skip this book. Any other book is better.

another cat book!

Yet another tale about cats. This one wasn’t as interesting as the others because it was too easy to figure out what was going on.
