A call to arms. A race against time. A choice that will change the future.
With her cabal divided, a price on her head, and her power put to the test, Cistine leads the desperate search for Maleck with a kingdom's worth of enemies seeking them both. Finding him might be the key to winning the war. It might also spell Cistine's doom.
Risking uncharted territory, Ashe, Aden, and Kristoff seek aid from the dragon legions in wild Oadmark. Only they stand a chance of bringing down the enemy's abominable hordes. But to gain their alliance, Ashe must prove beyond all doubt who she is-as a warrior and as a Wingmaiden.
Amidst a storm of schemes, missing friends, broken hearts and uncertain horizons, the cabal faces the grim possibility of a world that can't be redeemed, and Cistine fights to carry the burden no one else the weight of the power in her veins, and a weapon that could turn the tide of the war.
A power that could demand her love, her cabal, and even her own life to save the kingdoms from destruction.

★★★★★ "Dragonfire, the sixth book in the Starchaser Saga, is a masterpiece. The emotional dynamics portrayed in its pages are both nuanced and evocative, generating an air of epic grandiosity and relatable intimacy that is entirely. NEW FAVORITE OF THE SERIES.

BLOG || INSTAGRAM

Ohhhhh my goodness, I LOVED THIS BOOK. It took my breath away. At this point I am so immersed in these characters lives that each book is a journey I am chomping at the bit to read through.

I love all of these characters and that it’s multi-POV. Getting to see everyone’s mindset and where they are internally helps create these immerse character depths that I loooove. The romances and friendships are top tier and the sincere bonds of this found family group have me misty eyed.

While amidst the well placed (and written) action scenes that had me holding my breath, there were also ALL the sweet and tender moments too. Good heavens these are my favorite things about a well written fantasy book. I love being enthralled by every aspect.

I can’t speak to much else other than my intense love for this series or I could spoil how things have changed over 6 books. Just know: YOU MUST READ THIS SERIES.

Overall audience notes:
- Fantasy + Romance
- Language: very little
- Romance: closed door
- Violence: high
- Trigger/Content Warnings: loss of life, war themes, torture, depictions of grief and depression

My reading slump has once again been cured by the one and only Renee Dugan.
Dragonfire, the sixth book in the Starchaser Saga, is a masterpiece. The emotional dynamics portrayed in its pages are both nuanced and evocative, generating an air of epic grandiosity and relatable intimacy that is entirely. I was transported, but at the same time, reading about how the beloved Cabal grew and adapted in this installment felt like coming home.
Darkwind, the first book in the series, will forever and always be one of my favorite books of all time. But the payoff in this book transcended my expectations, and I am so ready to see how the characters I've loved since page one end their tales.
Dugan's writing continues to be top notch, and I'm so excited to see what this queen of the craft does in the final book.
If you haven't read this series yet, go do it now. Mostly because I need friends to cry and laugh with.

I blew through the six books that are currently published and loved every second of them. This series has just solidified that found family fantasy reads are probably my favorite genre. I found the series based on a booktok recommendation and am surprised I don't see them being talked about more. Great world building, character development, and romance subplots. The ending hurt my soul and I thought the main character process of accepting her circumstances was beautifully written. I did genuinely think this was the last book until the last couple chapters so I am excited to see the fate of all my favorites. My one criticism of the series is I think the sheer number of romances that have developed seem kind of convenient, I hope the characters that are unmatched remain so in order to avoid their relationships feeling forced.

THERE ARE NOT WORDS FOR ALL THE FEELS! This is my favorite book in the Starchaser Saga. Dragonfire saw the resolution of several plot lines the series had been building and building toward, coming together in surprising yet satisfying ways.

This book is full of heartbreak and loss (not a surprise in this series), but there are also so many moments of joy and triumph. And one scene that was such LITERAL PERFECTION, I had to thank Renee Dugan for not ruining it like Darlaska!

Y’all already know how much I love these characters so I’ll refrain from further gushing, but my love for this series knows no bounds. It ends on a bittersweet note that left me desperate for the final installment in this saga.

This book is more than five stars. In every category. In every way.

I know I cannot write a review eloquent enough to give justice to this story, these characters - this book, but I can say a million times.

You need to read it. You need to read it. You need to read it. You need to read it. You need to read it. You need to read it. You need to read it. You need to read it. You need to read it. You need to read it. You need to read it. You need to read it. You need to read it. You need to read it. You need to read it. You need to read it.
Etc…

Dugan has done a phenomenal job once again! This was an incredibly tense and emotionally charged book as we head toward the end of the series. It’s incredible to see how much these characters have grown and changed over the course of it.

I felt that the relationships and dynamics were richly explored in this instalment, which is perfect because the characters are certainly the beating heart of this story. Delving deeply into Cistine and Thorne’s love, her shifting dynamics with the cabal…it was all done with such care.

I am so invested in where this is going, since the end of the book promised new challenges ahead for our beloved characters.

i think i literally cried through at least a third of this book.

every time it was mal's chapter, i literally couldn't stop bawling.

the kinship between aden and ashe.

um. cistine???? that last arc of hers. i was a pile of tears.

i'll need to do a non-binge-reading-reread to gather my thoughts into a proper review because right now i'm an emotional mess. LOL.

Fans of The Starchaser Saga are in for a whirlwind of emotion with DRAGONFIRE! I absolutely loved this 6th installment. I laughed, I cried, I cheered. My heart lifted and ached, time and again. I saw myself within the pages of this story and my hope rose alongside the characters’. There is so much within this story—life and love and grief and hope. There’s so much to love about these characters and their relationships. The way they wrestle with pain and fear and grief. The way they endure hardship with fortitude and grace. The way they fight for themselves and each other. ❤️🫶🏼😭🥹❤️

DRAGONFIRE will grip you, make you feel all the feels, and linger with you long after you’ve finished the final page. Three taps from me. ❤️❤️❤️

When I learned this was originally the last book in the series, the events of Dragonfire made much more sense, because let me tell you- ish went down!! It was so epic with the highest of stakes that brought every character to the lowest of lows. I feared for each character's life and not just that of the cabal's, and including the animals too. T.T

Renee is the master of artful prose, lush description, realistic emotions, and tension like you wouldn't believe! The cabal was pushed to their limits in this book, which worries me what awaits them in the final installment. But that makes for the best of storytelling, doesn't it?

It may have taken me forever to get through this THICK INTENSE BOOK but I did it because my devotion to the series and its author cannot be understated.

Dragonfire was quite seriously one of the most epic books I’ve ever read. I cannot understand how so many crazy, world-changing things can happen in the pages of one book, but all the previous volumes led up to this, my friends. The realization of so many arcs meet their tippity top in these chapters. It was so good and I’m sorry to say my heart is still broken, so I guess I’m glad there’s another book.

One of the things that I can’t get over is how the trauma is addressed with such wisdom. I admit that sometimes I feel like the plot points in STARCHASER are overboard, with all the flesh ripping and soul destroying, but honestly, doesn’t life feel that way even when it’s not literal? So these characters endure some of the worst of their author’s imagination, but she has answers for them that we can apply to our own haunts. In my opinion, that’s the whole reason books should get written at all.

We can live on even if there’s a chunk of proverbial flesh still missing. We can let the experience destroy us and pull us away, or we can find a way back home somehow and be better for it. That’s what I see in these pages. The characters are an illustration of something sorely missing in our society today: actual devotion to the people you love. Sacrifice, even when it makes you sad or angry to do it. Cistine does the big thing anyway and she hates it but the love she has for others is simply bigger. She doesn’t have to understand it in order to pull it off. I love that about her. I am her!

I hope and pray God uses these books to reach people and open their hearts. May they fall into the perfect hands.

Dugan is back again with another fabulous addition to this series! Neck deep in a war the Cabel is going through a lot and it was a pleasure to see everyone's arc over the course of the book. Dragonfire was the perfect mix between heartfelt moments, humor, and scenes that made me sob. I seriously don't know how I can manage to wait for the next book.

While every book in this series has been excellent on its own, the culmination of all five books into this sixth book? I cannot. I simply cannot.

I cannot wait for the seventh.
I cannot go on in life with my brain hanging on all these character threads, my heart suspended in between.

I loved this so much. The intensity of emotion as lost members were recovered and saved. As happy things popped up throughout a war story. Love and triumph. Then great heartbreak! It was intense and page-turning. I can’t wait for the final book!

Phenomenal

Some old friends return, some are lost, and all are forever changed as the Saga continues. Ashe fights to gain allies amongst those who cast her dragon out. Cistine prepares to sacrifice nothing less than her life to save her kingdom and the one she’s grown to love. Everyone else in the cabal has their own struggles and demons, even outside of the imminent war with the scheming and dangerous Bloodwights that seek to spread their evil not just throughout Valgard but through all the kingdoms. And as usual, our heroes win … and lose. And as heartbreaking as both victory and strife are, they’ve only prepared Cistine and friends for the next (last?) battle yet to come.

I cannot say enough about the beauty of Dugan’s writing, characters, and story. How much I feel for each of them as they go through hell to fight for what and who they love. How attached I am to this world. I’m both salivating for and dreading how their stories will come to a close. And in case it wasn’t obvious, if you haven’t read this series, you’re definitely missing out.

Should have seen that coming It was a good misdirection.

I have 1 fear:
potential which would be evil (I hope some people read "Evil" just like Mermaid Man did in Spongebob), but I wouldn't put it past some authors *cough cough I can't name any at the moment, but they exist.

Okay I think this one might be my favorite. It was so tense and omg. These characters are in serious need of therapy and also sleep. This author is sooo good at making you fall in love with characters and then forcing them through hell making you hurt with them the whole way. I so love the cabal and the unbreakable bonds they share. Even when things get really tough. And that ending. Omg the ending :O

Overall I think this was a good ending to the conflict we have been reading about but it was a bit messier than previous books.
I think there are some issues with the map and travel and timing that definitely do not match up. Gathering everyone to take the city of one thousand stars took all of 30 minutes which makes zero sense. I know some of them have wind augments but it doesn't track that the tinkers and the folks from Telheim made it to the siege on the same day.
Then there is the whole thing with the door scene. If you aren't going to kill anyone, stop pretending to have dramatic scenes like that. Cistine using part of her augments to save Ari added nothing to the plot and just felt tiresome since the author has made it clear she is unwilling to kill anyone in the Cabal. She could have sidelined Cistine even if she used her entire augments seeing as dying on the door could take as long as a recovery as the author felt like. The cheap drama of Ari getting hurt just feels boring. We get it, you want drama, but if there are no real stakes to any of these scenes, readers don't care. This book started to exhaust my patience a little with plans going wrong. Its actually ok for a plan to work sometimes, it helps the story breath.
Then we have the battle and for some reason there wasn't a group of folks who's sole job it was to use wind augments to travel back and forth to get more healing augments that we are told they are constantly mining out of the wells.
I did really enjoy the death augment and the resulting consequences. My hope is that this is fixed by them finding another flagon of power, or since her dad is also a key, maybe he sacrifices himself to save the royal line and takes the power from her. All of this war and battle and death, just to protect the royal line that now dies with her is an interesting outcome.

I’ve decided to bring you along on my reading journey of The Starchaser Saga by @reneeduganwriting. These aren’t really going to be reviews, just my random thoughts while reading. I’ll do a series review once I’m finished. I’m going to try to make these as non spoilery as possible, but read at your own risk.

I started this immediately after Lightfall and read for 4 hours straight 🤪 this one was none stop action and I didn’t want to put it down.

Dragonfire Book 6
- “Fearless is my name.”
- You’re going to make me wait until the last book for their wedding, aren’t you? 🥲
- 🔑 🩸 ⚪️ 🐺 I just want him back 😭
- Sweet baby Pippet 🥹 (side note, when we get a new dog, I’m naming her Pippet. It’s such a cute name)
- For crying out loud, Tati, just tell him!
- Sander is a favorite of mine. 💜
- “I’m saving my friend.”
- One thing I really love about this series is the different and unique friendships the different characters have with each other.
- “You are the rain-dancer and beast-slayer. Lady of this Hive. You do not break.”
- Oh yay! No more waiting!!
- “You are one” 🥹
- The other Chancellors are such narrow minded cowards.
- Of course he’s guarding it 😅
- 🐦‍⬛ 😭
- Should have known it wouldn’t be that easy.
- “You made me stay. When I wanted to leave this all behind, you made me stay. Now you stay. For me.”
- 💜 = ☠️
- That slimy snake.

The ending of this wrecked me. Wildheart is next and I’m both ready and not ready for The Starchaser Saga to be over.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (4.5)
Steam Level: 🔥🔥 (fade to black)

With two of their own in trouble and evil coming to battle them, the cabal must seek help as quickly as possible before all hope is lost. But what will happen when Cistine faces her destiny in order to turn the tide of war to their side?

Each book in this series just gets better and better. I was so close to giving this 5 stars. I think the only thing that held me back was the fact that I was so busy and ended up needing two weeks to read it. Once again I experienced a rollercoaster of emotions as this book progressed. There's hope, loss, joy, triumph, and devastation. Even though the romances are all solidified, there's still plenty of tension and conflict to keep you guessing whether or not each couple will survive the challenges they face. There's also the excellent found family dynamic that continues to grow. This one had several moments that reminded me of Throne of Glass, so that also made me enjoy it even more. I honestly wasn't sure how the author would be able to add another book after this, but there's still some loose ends to tie up and one last big conflict that's going to bring things full circle. I'm looking forward to book 7 and seeing how it all wraps up!

📚ARC REVIEW📚

How much more can this cabal take! How much more can I take?

Dragonfire picks where we left off in Bloodsinger and oh man! From the very beginning it’s packed full of political intrigue, heartbreak, love, devastation. In the wide spectrum of emotion I think the cabal feels every single one. And despite all of that they continue forward. They know what’s at stake and are willing to risk it all to save their home and the ones they love.

Normally I’m not the biggest fan of books with more two points of view but The Starchaser Saga is the exception. In Dragonfire the cabal is stretched thing finding any help to win the war. It was nice to be able to see those events through the characters who went through the event, rather than them just relaying the information.

If I could I would rate Dragonfire 10/5 ⭐️ . I was hooked from beginning to end and hated when I had to put it down.

NO!!!!!!!!!

What a relief… and what a mess. What an ending! Just when you think the war is over and the casualties all laid out for us to mourn over.

Yeah, I knew we’d come full circle by the final book, but this isn’t the final, so let me reel it back a bit.

So many battles in this war and heartache and loyalty and … and… and an unofficial naming. Everyone we know and love coming together, ripping apart and all of fate hangs in the balance when Cistine acts as the Key and bleeds on the Door.

Who survives what is coming and what horrors and triumphs await both before and after this fight for the Northern kingdom will keep you on the edge of your seat… and then leave you scrambling for the final book.

Just like I am now- see you at the very end!

If you don't want to cry, consider skipping the following chapters: 32, 33, 37, 38, 48... oh sod it... You'd basically have to skip the whole book. Eleven. Eleven chapters made me cry. The emotional turmoil and trauma Renee's characters face is unfathomable. It is incredible that they can do any of the things they do. But it's not so much that it's unbelievable. In a world wracked with war, our beloved Cabal faces unthinkable choices. At every turn, lives are on the line, theirs and those within their kingdoms. As usual, in the last 150 pages, Renee turns up the heat and the stakes and it's a breakneck run off a cliff to the end. I have NO idea how I'm going to survive the last book!
