Kevin Bailey doesn’t believe in anything—ghosts, God, or anything in between. Kevin wants the rest of the world to see the truth, but no one will listen. So he’ll make them listen.
Recruiting three students from a nearby college, Kevin has set up an experiment to end the debate once and for all—a phony paranormal investigation. Spirits aren’t real; all you have to do is turn the lights off and tell a scary story. Suddenly, the little blond girl beside you thinks she’s hemorrhaging blood all over the carpet. Or take the tall boy, the one with all the muscles. Just tell him his dead brother will appear in the backseat of his car tonight, and it’s off to the races! And the fat one…the one who thinks he’s a witch. He’s a tough nut to crack, but we’ll get him. After all, it’s easy when they all believe…when they all want to believe.
So, what about you? What do you believe? Is it all just a show, or is the creak in the boards really the devil's footsteps? Is the noise in the kitchen from the refrigerator's exhaust fan, or is it some incomprehensible abomination, slowly making its way towards you to have a little fun in the dark?
So step up to the campfire! Throw your bags on the ground and grab a seat on the nearest log. I want to tell you a story, and I want to see if you believe it by the end. If you're willing to open your ears and close your eyes, I'll show you the complete truth. Just keep your eyes closed shut, no matter what happens. Remember, just don't...open...your eyes...

As the observations and experiences begin to take a dark sinister turn, the line between reality and delusion become an otherworldly nightmare for all those involved.
Author John Shupeck administers his eerily writing skills centered around ouija boards, automatic handwriting and electronic voice phenomenas. These well-known techniques of “ghost hunting” take a visual and audio aspects towards communicating with apparitions and demons. From the darkness of a basement to a spectral type seance, Shupeck sets the stage for a spiritually charged “bump in the night” read.
Composed with a “found footage” type vibe, entries into an electronic journal make up each chapter. This unique structure enhances the spooky atmosphere which in turn forms this book into a different kind of reading experience. Presented by D&T Publishing, Projection focuses on actual monsters that live among us as well as in the afterlife.

WOW! This was a fantastically creepy and horrifying book, based around a man called Kevin and his intent to disprove religion and the paranormal. He does this by getting together a group of people, all with different beliefs, and conducting his own devious and manipulative experiments.
It was written from each persons different perspectives on what happens, through their own personal journal entries, giving it a very interesting and insightful look into how they feel and how it all influences each other.
It also gives you a more in depth look into each characters personal stories and why they are like they are, and why they react in the way that they do, with some horrific confessions, and their inevitable descent into madness! I really enjoyed this concept a lot!
This story was really well written, a proper page turner! I found it creepy, disturbing, exciting, intriguing and mysterious! It messed with my head on more than one occasion, and made the hairs on my neck stand on end!
A gritty, intense, psychological horror, with a nice cup of karma served up in a brilliant twist ending!

Kevin doesn’t believe in the supernatural so he is going to conduct an experiment where he will convince students that his house is haunted. He plans to conclude that people will believe whatever they are told and their mind will add in the visuals and sound to go with that belief. This is quite a biased way to run an experiment as we start to wonder if Kevin has more nefarious plans for his participants.
Each chapter is a journal entry giving you the perspective of that persons experiences. It is slightly repetitive at first but as the story progresses we can see who and why the participants act out like they do. It gets weird right away when things happen that are similar to Kevin’s totally made up stories. I thought this was going to be like HELL HOUSE or HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE but it changed from a haunted house story to psychological and supernatural horror.
Plenty of tense, disgusting and disturbing scenes that just keep ramping up as Kevin’s twisted mind shows it’s true colors.

Right from the start I wanted to know more about what Kevin had planned for the students. His words were unsettling, and I really wanted to see how things were going to turn out with his experiment.
This is a book I couldn’t put down. I seriously looked forward to the next time I could pick it up again. The journal style writing is very gripping and gives a close up of each character’s thoughts. Is this really happening or is it a hallucination? We get tripped out just like the characters. Every detail unfolds into one perfectly disturbing read. Shupeck displays some AMAZING talent. This book was my intro to this author, and I’m blown away. I look forward to reading more of his work.

I want to create my own monsters in the minds of men to prove a point: imagination is a powerfully distracting thing, and I think it's time we all wake up to the true horrors of the world.

Projection took my breath away. Shupeck took the haunted house narrative and found a way to revive it in a unique way. I mean it, from the formatting of the storytelling, to the execution of the haunted house archetype, everything felt shiny and new. I felt my heart racing while reading the diary entries and couldn’t stop myself from thinking about the book whenever I wasn’t reading it.
We’ve all seen ghost hunting shows and know of the various ways ghost hunters try to capture evidence of the ghost phenomena. EVPs. Ouija boards. Rituals. Communicating directly with the deceased. All these and more are used by Kevin, Staci, Tyler, and Dave to try to prove the existence of the various ghosts haunting Kevin’s home. The twist though, is that this is all made up, an entirely different experiment crafted by Kevin to see how he can warp the minds of both believers and nonbelievers by creating scenarios that seem like a real haunting.
The premise is intriguing, and the way Shupeck unfolded the story was perfect. Shupeck has been on my radar before thanks to the Scumbag series from Godless.com, but this standalone has caused me to look into more of his work. I have a need to see what other masterpieces this man has put out!
This book deserves more praise than I can muster. The author created something special that I can see being replicated in the future and inspiring the next generation of haunted house books.

Local college students Staci, Dave and Tyler are participants in a paranormal study hosted by Kevin. Kevin invites them into his home, gives them small tidbits of information on the possible ghosts occupying his home and conducts different methods to try to connect with the entities. What he’s not telling them is that their beliefs and psyche are the actual subject of the study and Kevin is set on destroying everything they believe in and breaking them down. One by one the students are dropped out of the study as Kevin pushes them to mental collapse and towards the end he adds in a new student to the mix. What he doesn’t realize is that she is catching on to his shit quick and she’s not so trusting of him. Who breaks who down first?
In the beginning, I really didn’t like any of the characters but as I kept going, I realized I actually liked most of them (with Kevin being the lone asshole I never liked). I enjoyed the writing style and I may be partial to it but it gave me tiny pieces of home that I miss dearly and made me connect even more with the story. All in all, it’s a 5/5 for me.
