When the freighter DelCon West is stranded in Miami and her crew is stiffed out of their pay, her captain wants to bring down justice on the necktied weasels who cheated his men. The only hitch is that there isn’t a cop, lawyer, or judge alive who can fight corporate America. What's needed is someone crazy enough to jump into a nigh-suicidal battle against Florida’s greediest, most ruthless robber barons since Henry Flagler.Enter Cready Marsen.Fighting on behalf of the downtrodden is Cready’s calling, and clocking management in the nose is his passion. But when the job pits him against powerfully well-connected men, he’ll need more than bloody knuckles to survive—he’ll need wits, charm, and a couple dirty tricks.Cready comes to the captain with a plan, but both men soon realize every plan changes when a gun is pressed up to your head.
“The Captain” Is An Interesting, Entertaining, and Enjoyable Mystery Thriller
The excellent “Authors Blurb” will give you all the information you need to determine whether or not this title, (and series), may be right for you, AND it contains “NO SPOILERS”, but then neither shall my review.
I can tell you that I found the plot to be quite believable, and the story was entertaining, and at time quite gripping, which contributed to my enjoyment of it.
This is only the 2nd Book in the series, and I do, as always, recommend reading series books in order, however it can be read as a “standalone”, (you can always go back to the beginning if you like this one.
Yes I was an Advanced Copy Reader (or Beta Reader), I received an advance “pre-release” copy of this book, after agreeing to write, and post, an “HONEST” review, I was neither offered nor did I accept any other consideration to influence my review. This is an HONEST Review.”
Watching joggers from the window of a car he'd really, really rather not he in, Cready thinks .... " That could be me there, both sweaty and clean and worrying more about a frayed shoelace than catching a hollow point in the back of my teeth. " Oh, my!
Yes, Cready has found himself in a prickly situation....again. Caught between art thieves, drug dealers, dirty politicians, law enforcement and, of course, a lovely French woman.
He's a good old fashioned kind of private eye. He has his own moral compass and a way of doing things that treads mostly in the gray areas. Loyal to his friends, and Bog. He has a knack for finding his way into unfortunate situations.
This story is an entertaining read. Fun and twisty.
I'm really enjoying this series and look forward to my next visit with Mr. Marsen.
I recommend this author, this series and his other works, as well. I am an ARC reader for this series because I am a fan of this authors work.
Once again a book starts out and your not to sure then LOW your hooked on a story that has so many twists and turns you get lost good cops bad ones and of course inept feds what more to ask foe...ciao from a rainy costa Rica Pur a vida..
This was an average read to me based upon the slow moving plot and predictable ending. The book was easy to put down as it just did not keep my interest. I rated it as average and that was generous.
