Kale Walker just wants to make some money. Becoming rich would be nice but with the Plah'Keth stranglehold on human merchant shipping, he has a higher chance of getting struck by space lightning. Hell, if it wasn't so damned hard for humans to get hauling work, maybe he could even make a name for himself out among the stars. If he doesn't starve to death, first.
All of that comes crashing down the moment Kale takes on a cargo bound for Earth. The owner, Emeril Pearce, is a wanted fugitive by the Plah'Keth because of what he did to them. Because of what he took.
And now Kale has it. And the Plah'Keth want it back. They're so desperate to get it, they're willing to turn the entire spiral upside down to get it or burn it all in the process. But Kale doesn't know what the cargo is, nor its significance. All he knows is that the fate of humanity could very well rest on the success or failure of his mission. Not just the fate of humanity, but the fate of the entire galaxy as well. Nowhere is safe, and no one can be trusted.
After the First Contact War with an alien species called the Plah’Keth, humans ended up nearly extinct and at the very bottom of the pyramid. It’s been 300 years since the war, and humankind is still struggling to survive.
The story surrounds a man named Kale. He is a lone freighter pilot and captain of the VoidDance, who is just struggling to make ends meet. Desperate for work, he takes on an impossible task that gets him into trouble. While trying to recover his own ship and cargo, he learns a dangerous secret from a man that witnessed the First Contact War. This secret could save humanity.
He faces many obstacles from those trying to prevent him from finding more information and delivering his stolen cargo. Kale continuously gets knocked out, kicked, and beaten down, but he seems relentless and determined. He gets back up repeatedly as he tries to maneuver his way around the job that got him into this mess.
Though Kale travels alone in his ship, he talks to the AI named ALI which helps him navigate and identify potential threats. Overall the story has some “Firefly” vibes if Mal was traveling alone. It was a bit slow at first but picked up once his cargo and ship get stolen
