I really liked this story, as in, I wouldn't put it down until the end! I love the world building, the characters that are brought to life by Enid Titan. I enjoy how she has different types of aliens that are compatible with humans and are somewhat humanoid. No lizard guys yet. And of course the heros in her stories are totally devoted to their mates and in sometimes, like in this story, they have a little somethin-somethin extra for their mates! ;-}
This is the second story in the First Contact Captives: An Alpha Quadrant series. You don't have to read the first story, First Contact Captives: Vidar, to understand this story. It does give a bit of information, but it is included in this story to. In this series, there are aliens that want to include Earth as an ally but they first have to see how the people of Earth react to them. They are supposed to be captured to see how they are treated.
In this story, his ship is thrown off course and ends up in Alaska. Good thing this alien, Kronos, is from a frozen planet. He is instructed to observe the humans in the nearby town. He is drawn towards one female, Jessica, when her dreams call out to him. His race are telepathic. He was told that some Earthlings could have telepathic abilities so they could possibly be viable mates.
Jessica was born in Alaska and if something doesn't change, she will die there too. Her father is a drunk and is abusive to both her mother and to her. When she ran away at 16, he came and dragged her back and then beat her again. At 20, she left and was able to stay away. The only place she could find to live is in a trailer with two other women. Both of them drink, use drugs and sleep around. With Jessica's job, she is able to pay her bills, and maybe have a little left for food and such. When she goes camping with her roommates, she didn't know that there would be three guys there too. Being from a small town, she knows the guys. One is a second cousin and one is a lecherous creep, Taylor. With only three two-person tents, she will have to share with someone and she won't have it. When she goes into the woods to relieve herself, Taylor follows her and tries to molest her. A super tall blue guy comes to her rescue. When she starts to freak out, he tells her that she is safe, telepathically.
Kronos is on this mission to Earth by request from his friend Prince Titan. When he is drawn towards the Earth girl Jessica from her dreams calling him, he then keeps an eye out for her. When he comes to her rescue, he then realizes that she can hear him. He goes back to her the next morning so she can decide the fate of the guy her attacked her. He takes her to his ship, she sees that Taylor is alive, but Kronos and Jessica are physically drawn to each other, along with being telepathic with each other. He lets Taylor go, then releases her into the woods near their campground. He keeps an eye on her for her protection and when she is kicked out of the trailer because Taylor lied about her, Kronos comes to the rescue.

Wow! I love this second book in this series. Kronos was sent on a reconnaissance mission to earth. It was a pre contact mission to determine how they might react to aliens, instead he found his true mate. The hero and heroine are both strong characters. Each wanting to support and protect each other. Jessica has had a troubled life and for the first time, found someone who only wants to protect and love her. The fact that he is an alien becomes irrelevant. Their feelings for each other overcome everything. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
