When Uru decides to work at the Happy Cafe, she discovers she is a clumsy waitress, and that her unsociable yet attractive coworkers Ichiro and Shindo are no help.
Jennica Munden Graphic-novel Critical analysis: This is a playful story about competitive cooking, emotional discovery, and adjusting to the difficulties in your life, no matter how bizarre.
Opinions: It is a relief from the classic warrior novels and saving-the-world series out there, but I just could not get into it. Perhaps it is just one of those graphic novels that require you to read all of them to get into it. Maybe it picks up. Or maybe it is just a silly tail with some eye-candy and edible treats.
Summary: It is a sweet story about a young Japanese girl who still attends school, has a job, exceptional strength, and a desire to do her best, except in English, her least favorite subject. However, there is more to it than this. The manager is a demon lord, and the only other one working with her, is a strange, wealthy young man with a sleeping problem (mended only by eating—to wake him) brought on by loneliness waiting for his parents to come home at night for dinner. But when you are surrounded by so many good looking young men who can cook the most delectable treats, and all you want to do is a good job at work, what are you to do?
By far the best volume in this Manga series. From Uru's step dad to the incident at the Abekawa residence to Ichirou's story to Uru's cousin and the lost kid. (somehow didn't enjoy the "Uru's school friends" chapter much compared to the rest)
This volume has the panel I remember redrawing when I was 13/14! I was super proud of it cause it looked pretty good lol. This series is pretty weird and a little childish and it definitely feels like a shoujo from 2010.
After three volumes I'm used to how over the top the reactions of the characters can be. The smiles and feelings in this volume were very heartwarming.
This is the last volume my library has, sadly, and it seems to be out of print. I would love to keep reading the series if I can find it.
Series Review: Happy Cafe is a sweet and funny manga that is a great light read. The characters are hilarious (often times even the bad guys) and the plot is never boring despite its slower pace. The romance is a slowly developing relationship that is refreshing in a overfilled market of instalove trends. The ending was kinda rushed but cute in its own way. I recommend this manga to those who are looking for a light read.
This series is a really light, fun read. The stories don't really linger, but I generally enjoy each volume as I read it. Volume 3 has some very cute scenes between Uru and her two hunky male co-workers, Shindo and Ichiru. And we finally figure out why Ichiru has that weird sleep/snack disorder! :)
Eh...pretty scattered over all, but there are some good bits, like seeing Ichiro's back story. I'm still not terribly impressed with this series, but I've heard it gets better in the fourth volume, so I'll keep going with it for now!
Ok I love this series... What a strange group of people... A short but very strong girl, a guy who falls asleep if he doesn't eat something and a guy who looks rough outside but is a softly! LOVE them!
Not as good as the first two; the stories weren't as interesting, and sort of generic. However, it still left me with the desire to continue the series.
