The Limit #2

Brutal Limits

Rate this book
When I took the job on the island retreat known as The Limit, I hadn’t expected to be mistaken for someone else. Someone who wanted to be chased, to be caught, to be corrupted. It was a mistake that would lead four men to take my innocence. Brody, Wilder, Rafferty, and Asher. They each have their own secrets and pain, and I’d started to think I was cracking through their armor. But the connections we’d made vanished the moment they discovered my lie. Now everything changes. What began as a game has become something else entirely. Something sinister and dangerous. Now there are no rules. No limits. No get out clause. No escape. I ran from one threat right into the arms of another and now I don’t know if I’ll ever be free.

Okay, This series just went from sizzling to a dirty, dirty inferno!!

Wow, we were left on such a crazy cliffhanger in book one. I could only imagine the fear and thoughts consuming Honor in that bunker. Well the guys pick right back up where we left off...pissed and looking for their pound of flesh. This is definitely dark with these men taking advantage of the predicament Honor is in to do whatever they wish to do physically, mentally, and emotionally to her. And they don't hold back.

At least it seems they started listening to why Honor did what she did. They are starting to realize a girl wouldn't let them do all these depraved things to her unless she had something worse she was hiding from. Rafferty, Wilder, and Asher start getting closer to Honor as they get to the bottom of her true background. Brody however is scared of how Honor might screw up their brotherhood and decides he is going to torture Honor until she breaks and quits. Unfortunately Brody won't appreciate what he has until his schemes might actually cause all the men to lose Honor forever.

This was a crazy rollercoaster, just like book one. There is some primal and captive scenes that are gritty and dubcon to the max. Please mind the trigger warnings, this is dark. Poor Honor is in way over her head, and these guys are not gonna take it easy on her. Despite all that they are definitely bonding and know that they will never find another girl like Honor. But they let their guard down and threats that didn't seem like they could affect them in any way may just tear them apart. We are left on another "the sh*t just hit the fan" cliffhanger, and I cannot wait to see what happens now!!

Even though this is an ARC review, I will always shoot you straight. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

3RD BOOK COMES OUT OCTOBER 13, 2022. Once again another great book in the series. This one starts where the last one ended with them having just put her in the bunker. They leave her there and it turns dark for her, they start to really degrade her and after they take her safe word away and tell her she is there’s to keep, she starts to feel unsafe. But she is also mad at herself because she still is turned on for them and gets off on how they are treating her even if she thinks she hates it. They agree to let her back into her old room but she has to continue to play the games with her and one of them men agrees to let her have a safe word as long as the other guys don’t find out. Anyways they continue their games and everything is going fine until 3 of them start to have feelings for her and the one that hasn’t forgiven her for lying wants her gone because he thinks she is going to come between their friendship. She also realizes that they are only mean to her during their game and once it’s over they are nicer to her so she starts to understand that it’s okay to let them talk to her like they do because it isn’t real. At the end of the book though she is running from them on a hunt when the guy who doesn’t like her finds her first and tries to scare her to leave island, she manages to get away from him but not before tripping him and making him hurt his ankle so he can’t run after her. She realizes she’s lost pretty quickly so when she sees a man on a boat she thinks it’s someone the men have sent for her. She goes out to meet him on the boat and quickly realizes it’s not the men who have sent the boat but the stepfather she’s been running from. The men quickly realize she is gone and realize the stepfather must have found her because they searched her when they found out she was lying. The men swear to out everything they have into finding her even putting their own vendetta against the priest from their childhood on hold.

A solid second book in The Limit series.

This one has just as much anxiety inducing chases for Honor, as the last one. And when the guys do catch her, it's just as hot.

We are slowly getting the back story about what Honor's step dad did, and what Paston Wren did to the guys (although in their case, it wasn't hard to guess.)

They all start to develop feelings for each other, but are all still in the midst of denial - which I hope in the next book they start to come around cause I can see the guys are all big softies when you pull all their walls down.

This book had me on the tip of my seat, so much so that I grabbed a blanket and crawled onto the couch and stayed up until 2 am to finish it. And it was worth it.

The dark nature of the sex play and the way the guys behave while playing the game is a total turn-on, but they become completely different people the moment the game ends, considerate, sweet perfect gentlemen, that is all of them excluding Brody the one man between the bunch that is still trying to deny his feelings.

The bunker was excruciating to read but so well written, if you plan to read these books please heed the trigger warnings, not just about the dark desires and sex play but also note there are isolation and claustrophobic mentions.

I loved this book and I will be starting book 3 later after I've put my children to bed and my hubby is sleeping soundly, then I'll grab a blank and ensconce myself in the dark on the lounge couch and read till the early morning hours. I'll tell you guys all about it tomorrow after I've devoured book 3.

Intense story

This story is just getting better and better. The second book in the series has lots more spice and the hunt is just starting. The boys warm up to Harper and it seems like they are started developing some feelings for her.
But damn, the cliffhanger was not what I expected and I really needed to see what happens next.

Well all that we needed to know is in book 2... also, Honor's deception has been discovered and the men are mad! She needs to prove herself and make it up to them. As she does this, they seem to want her more and not just for the games/chase. Not all are on board which causes some rifts... due to this, she ends up in a situation that leaves us in a cliffhanger...

sorry i'm gonna write a legit review on.... this. do you still think i'm hot.

this series is frustrating to me. book one, i was having fun until they like, actually assault her. and i wasn't having fun in book two until rafferty and whats-her-name cut a new contract. if you're going to do the pseudo-consent with a contract thing, then stick to it. if you're going to do a dubcon thing, then stick to it and embrace that your book is like that. i hate the back and forth between threatening to legitimately torture her and then having like, tender sex. the whiplash is too much. this series is a legit mess.

i LIKE the sex scenes in this, when the contracts are in place. when she has a safeword. and like, i like Prey Island so like, obviously i'm okay with reading dubcon shit, i don't need a safeword. but the whiplash in this series is insane. the sex scenes are hot - when they're "consensual". otherwise they're just taking advantage of her. also the guys are supposed to be super intense, but they don't actually do much to her when the contracts are in place. asher can't even choke her a little because she's now traumatized because of the felicity thing.

also, the contract nonsense in this book is super confusing. like, i get that we are reading for the drama and the smut, but the new contract doesn't really make sense in practice. it's whatever. i don't really care. but it was brought up enough times where i was starting to think that i should actually be paying attention to it.

This book leaves off on another cliffhanger!

Learning that Honor lied to them was one thing but to be willing to stay and play by their new rules was unexpected. But the guys have something different in mind to begin with including a torture shack. Once everything is out in the open, the guys go back to the way they were before they found out and give Honor back some of her luxuries. But Brody doesn’t seem to be on the same page as the rest of them and scares Honor off. Only to find out she’s missing.

I get that the guys were hurt at first but did they have to take away all her privileges at once? I am wondering if the guy they’re looking for is also Honor’s stepfather and they’re in for a surprise. It would also be interesting to know what Felicity wanted with the guys as she didn’t seem to be on their radar as a partner.

Am I so messed up to have the thoughts that what their doing on the island doesn't seem that bad? I mean seriously, more than once, I thought, "Calm down, honor. It could be so much worse. They're not even using restraints, or evil toys, or true breath play . . . " Sometimes I question if I'll ever be normal again, then I remember that normal is boring, and I am hurting absolutely nobody by supporting authors and enjoying my dirty little romances.

Now, the true anger and tiny bit of torture they did was kinda harsh. Consider, yes, she lied, but also she got pretty far into the process before she figured out for herself that there was a mixup. And the lack of safeword or choice did have my hackles up, but then it switched POV, and it was obvious the guys weren't going to literally murder her, so I call that a win.

I did think that Felicity deserved more than a "get off this island" reprimand. Now she was a monster. And part of me was so hoping Asher would actually kill her, and Honor would fall like a demon and decide she deserved it. If I thought it would help Asher mentally, to have a Kindred (murderous) spirit, that'd be a great character arc. But she was all, "don't kill her, It's was probably my fault, I don't want to see anyone hurt." When all the while, Felicity was glaring and spewing hatred through her eyeballs.

The guys' personalities are well flushed out. They feel like individuals instead of interchangeable faceless men. And each of them is dealing with their own shit.

I can't wait for them all to actually communicate a little about their obvious shared trauma with a pedo. Their 4 can easily become a 5. And Mr. Crazy Pants Asher over here is never letting her go. Control freak Raff and Big Bear Wilder have fallen in love. Brody just needs to jump on the band wagon. And, of course, Honor is already on the way to trust. Especially with the knowledge that lonely Montenegro is never going to compare to these psychos and their little island.

The Stepfather better die in book 3. He will not be a problem when he stops breathing. (Good lord, when did I get so bloodthirsty?) And they can all go on a little murder-revenge vacation to take out pathetic Pastor Wren. I'm down for that.

Brutal Limits is book two in the Limits trilogy. A steamy full-length standalone novel with no cheating, and ends on a mind-boggling cliffhanger. A brilliantly written story with damage people and a twisty storyline that's fueled by savagery and grabs the reader attention from the first chapter and keeps you hooked and glue to your kindle and guessing all the way until that jaw-dropping cliffhanger. In Brutal Limits the story picks up where it left off the trust that they had gain is now gone and they decided to take advantage of situation because they feel as if she deceive them.
So now games get more psychological, physical, emotional, and mental with no holds bar. We get a little background on why these guys are so devious and broken. The guys put their selfishness aside and try to understand Honor a little bit and why an innocent virgin would subject herself to such debauchery. Asher, Wilder and Rafferty tried to work out their feelings for Honor. But Brody wasn't having any of it and decided that he would push her even farther and harder to break her but his plan backed fired. And Honor decided to flee from them and ran right into the threat that she was trying to get away from. She ran right into her step-father trapped and he kidnap her, leaving the guys scrambling wondering where she went only to find out that it was Brody's fault. We are once again left on jaw-dropping cliffhanger.
An opposite attracts story, reverse harem romance, age gap trope story, threats, rape, billionaire romance, lust at first sight, with lies, secrets, danger, violence, hatred, action, emotions, tension, evil, rough intense sexual scenes, dirty talking, dominance, submission, BDSM, kinks, taboo, surprises, trauma, twists and turns, suspense, mystery, revelation, fear, retaliation, debasement, pain and pleasure, sexual abuse, sex and sin, debauchery, Dub-Con, Non-Con, abduction, steam, passion, survival, power play, and so much more. The chemistry between Honor and the guys are electrifying and scorching hot and burn up your kindle.

Enjoyment level: 4⭐
Writing: 3 ⭐
Plot: 3.5 ⭐
Characters: 4 ⭐
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Overall: 4 ⭐

This is not an epic love story, or great adventure or spectacular piece of writing. It is dark smut wrapped up in a bit of plot. If that's what you are after, it does it quite well!

Novellas are hard to get right, even in a series, because you need there to be good pace, enough character development and not have it overwhelmed by one facet of the book (in this case the smut!).

This manages to do that pretty well. Writing wise, there is a lot of typos and it just doesn't seem terribly well edited, but otherwise the book keeps the story moving.

There is never a vast amount of plot to go into this sort of book, but there is enough character development and changes in relationships that it keeps things interesting. Don't expect epic levels of those though, it is a very short book.

I think these books run the risk of falling into the insta love trap. At the moment, they have known each other for less than a week and are all suitably obsessed without having had any real deep and meaningful moments. Just lots of sex! I think if they approached her now as a "let's see if we can take this further and get to know you" it could be excellent, but I fear they are going to go down the "we are in love and will die for you" route instead. So the next book will tell how well it's managed!

The stakes have been upped at the end of this. And it is a fun read, with the whole "you are a liar" thing handled and each of the men processing it a bit differently.

The smut is fun to read, if you enjoy a little primal stuff every now and then, but it is dark and pushes the limits at times. Not as much as the first book I would argue though.

I’m still processing this read so I’m not leaving a full review yet. I’m not even sure if this will be the end rating, it may be lower. I just don’t have the time to configure my thoughts right now, so I just wanted to jot a few things down to talk about when I come back to do the full review.

- Why does she have to reiterate her thoughts over and over. I’ve been told half a dozen times why she feels a certain way about something or someone but why do I have to keep being reminded? It’s repetitive and annoying.
- I like dubcon/cnc or stuff of that nature, but what I do mind is the fact that they straight up took away her safe word and weren’t going to respect her enough to stop if she truly wanted them to. Idc how fucked up they are bc of their past, this is inexcusable and really made me stop liking the book at a few points. I felt slightly better when her and Raf did their secret contract or whatever, but the logistics behind it bugged me.
- The insta-feelings…two days in and she’s talking about how she is half falling in love with them. Stockholm syndrome much? You falling in love with how they shove you in a basement and overreact to you “lying”? Good grief.

Like I said, this isn’t actually my review, these are just a few of my thoughts that I needed to write down so I can feel like I processed them a little and go to bed bc I have work in five hours lol.

Brutal really fits this book. Brutal Limits picks up right where we left off. We see some of the guys realizing that there may be more to Honor than what they assumed. But is she trust worthy? Is she going to try and take them all down? Will she reveal her secret? Will she be leaving the island with money or completely broke? Most of all, can she win their trust back?

We get some answers in the beginning, and we dive deeper into the background of the guys. Which we needed to see, in order to attempt to understand what’s going on with them.

Honor gets a second chance, sort of? New rules, new game, new (almost) everything, It’s not really a fresh start. But it works, some of the guys are on board with this new direction, others are not. I also like that we got to see the guys be protective of her even after what she “did” with her lying.

If you thought that book 1s cliffhanger was bad? We’re thrown OFF the cliff with book 2. It was not what I saw coming and I’m insanely curious as to what the guys are going to do when they realize... who took her. And also what is going to happen next.

Their story continues...

This is a continuation from the first book in the series. Considering how the first book ended, I anticipated a darker read, but was pleasantly surprised. This book picked up where the first one ended, but there seemed to be a bit more of the backstory between all the characters come out. To me it gives the reader something more to think about. It was quite enjoyable to read and I did find it quite easy to read. My only complaint, is that like the first book in this series it ends in a cliff hanger. While I was unhappy that the first book ended in one, I sort of expected this one to end that way as there was way too much story to still be told. So I am a little more forgiving this time. I do have to say that the reader, really needs to read the first book in the series. If they don't, the majority of the story line will not make sense. Go back and find the first book and read it first, if this second book interests you. A great read and I look forward to the next book in this series.

She was supposed to become their maid, she ended up becoming their prey in a five-hunt game.

And I became obsessed with this trilogy, couldn't stop reading, had to change my plans to pick up book 2 not long after finishing book 1 because they end on cliffhangers and you want to know what happens next.

Honor is escaping her past, there's suspense surrounding her story and the guys have a dark past as well. it takes time to get answers but they are so worth it. It's disturbing but addicting and I love the writing so much.

The smut is so great and I'm absolutely checking out other books from this author in the future!

This is book 2 in this intense game these men are playing with Honor.
The truth has somewhat come out, 2nd chances are given but not all the men are on board with that plan and he may have just lost them all the one they all truly want Honor.
Honor is one strong female, but can these four truly protect her this time?
Yes, this story is dark, it may trigger something for some readers but keep in mind this is all consensual. And deep down it's a game, that has found four men wanting this woman with all they have inside. But the ending~ I didn't see that coming WOW...
Fantastic writing! More, please!

The thin, stupid white lie that the FMC tells in book 1 Does not justify the crap the 4 MMCs give the FMC in this book

Disgusting.
Zero romance
The men just mostly non con or dub con the fmc into anything & everything.

She legit has no "no" button in either book. No matter what she says the men do what they want & she also never says no, she's just like I'm so exhausted from screwing some of my bfs..I just want to go to bed.
4x MMC's say "round 2"
And the FMC is just like "what? Oh".
And it's more backdoor play.
Never any lube for the bog toys either..

P.s. FMC was that dumb. She was offered 200k to just safe word & leave & she chooses to stay with 4 men who forced her to go e them all head & swallowing would be her only meal that a.m.

When this book became available I completely ignored my massive backlog and devoured it it one sitting, Marissa Farrar and SR Jones are both phenomenal authors on their own, but this collaboration is just too much! It is not for anyone with triggers, so don’t read if you have like any…at all. But if you are a lover of dark, spicy romance then this series is for you! I honestly can’t go goo much into the book without spoilers, but if you loved book 1 you will love this one even more. This book ends on a cliffhanger (eek!), but it’s a super fast and action packed read! Sooo excited for book 3!.

BRUTAL LIMITS starts out with Honor in a pretty rough state and can be emotionally hard to read but this is where Honor begins to build her resolve and it’s the foundation from which the relationship that develops between Honor and the guys begins to grow. Their story continues to be an intense and fascinating tale that is sure to keep you thoroughly involved. It’s a captivating and interesting look at the dark natures of each of the characters as we begin to learn more about each of them. You are sure to become completely enthralled from the beginning to the very surprising twist at the end. I’m certainly going to be anxiously awaiting the next in this uniquely appealing series.

Was a little worried about what might happen to Honor now that the guys knew she wasn't so they thought she was. They are a little harsh, at first. She is going to have to prove herself to them if she wants back in their not-quite-so-bad-graces. Asher looks into her past and finds out what, or should I say who, she is running from. This didn't help earn her any points. Their games get wild, but she is up to the challenge. Right? But there is one of them who sees her as a distraction and a possible problem. Will he be able to make her run?

Great Read!

I have to admit I was looking through my earlier reads this year and was happy to have found they have completed the series. It picks up right where the last cliffhanger left off and the characters all felt genuine. I loved how they all developed and the story line too. I think this is the perfect combination of both plot and fun time. You get a lot of fun time with different interests from the four guys. Of course Honour is smart and has figured her guys out. It leaves with another cliffhanger and yay book three is out. It was a quick read and really enjoyable. I wonder how this Trilogy will end.

this just keeps getting better

This book has kicked it up a few notches from the first! It has gotten even better and the first one was already so good! Honer is struggling with her feelings about the guys and their mood between the games and out of the games but who can blame her?! And the guy 😍 love them all but Brody is steadily pissing me off more and more as this book goes on. He needs to pull his head out of his butt. I am absolutely shocked at how much I like Asher now compared to the first book. Wilder is still the sweetest and rafferty has steadily grown on me more as well. Such a big cliffhanger at the end!

well i am fucking scared. that ending was very cliffy. i hope everyone will be ok. this was a bit darker than the first, and while i still really enjoyed the plot, the charcaters and the smut, i feel like some fo the guys behaviours towards honor were just really fucked. especially you brody. like, i get feeling betrayed and upset and stuff, but there were a few too many limits pushed, a few too many ignored safewords and he was calling her 'bitch' and thats just not for me. the other guys are much prefered, even though i started off liking him best. hoping he will redeem himself in my books in the final!!!

Fabulous dark and sexy read.

This was just so so good! I re-read book 1 first to recall all the twisted goodness, and enjoyed it even more the second time, but book 2 is even better, and I devoured it in one sitting. I was a little apprehensive going in after the book 1 ending, but I felt the authors judged it perfectly and have written a very intense and dark tale, but also very readable and certainly memorable. Another killer of a cliffhanger to end - absolutely cannot wait for book 3!.

Buckle up, because Marissa Farrar has delivered a dark, gritty, intense masterpiece! This is fast-paced story that picked right back up! Honor's attraction with her men is magnetic... the pull they between them is unreal. This one intense ride, although at times, I did cringe seeing what Honor was submitted to... The further you get in the book the more the twists and turns keep coming and yet again... we're left hanging in the balance counting the days until the next installment is released! This is a MUST READ!

Brutal Limits is book two of The Limits series and it picks up where book one left off. After that cliffhanger ending, I wasn't sure what the guys would do to Honor after they found out she lied. If you trigger easily this book isn't for you but if you like to dip your toes in the dark and dirty side I definitely recommend you grab this series. Just like book one this one ends in a cliffhanger and I can't wait to read book three to find out how Honor and the guy's story ends. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

★ “She’s the most delicious creature we’ve played this game with.” ★

—>>> This was quite the second story of the series, as we become privy to what motivates Honor to be with the men whose past circumstances turned out beings hellbent on wreaking revenge, males who are also trying to get into her head mentally through their treatment of her and physically with their challenges and twisted sexual demands on their private island. “We are guys with a whole lot of baggage. And now Honor’s got all that baggage dumped on her.” Cannot wait to see what happens next!

Wilder offers her a smile. "Dreams can come true."
She doesn't seem convinced. "Can they?"
"We got you, didn't we?"

wouhou! it got better because there's more developments and character growth in here. definitely way steamier than book 1 as well. love it more since feelings are getting involved :)

my fav for sure is the gentle giant :') every single time.
