Shorty is the name she goes by, but deep inside, Sarah Lefley is dying to be set free from her trying life. She learns at a young age how to fit in with her peers, even though the situation isn't always ideal. Her family life isn’t any better. Her father went to prison when she was young, and her mother can’t be bothered with her only child. Left alone to navigate life, Shorty is desperate to find a sliver of happiness, and maybe even some love.
Demetrius “Bingo” Aster is a hustler to the core. It’s all he knows, and his hard exterior is notorious in the hood. When he meets Shorty, his life changes forever, and that hard exterior cracks, but only for her. Determined to show her everything she’s been missing in life, he does everything in his power to take care of her mentally, physically, and emotionally until he’s forced to do a bid, once again leaving Shorty to fend for herself.
Shorty is a story about a young woman’s survival and fighting the odds, no matter how stacked against her they are. The only question left is will this timeless story get a happy ending, or will Shorty succumb to the hand life dealt her?
Trials, Tribulations, Lessons, Resilience, and Strength
This is the first book I've read by Elbie Dee, and it most definitely won't be the last. The main character Shorty grew up with an exceptional bond with her father, and not with her mother which is usually the opposite in most cases. Once her father goes away to prison she has to navigate life growing up with a mom whom she shares no bond with, and whom seems not to care too much about her own daughter. As with all kids once teenage life begins they are in need of guidance as they crave more attention, and influences start to come from everywhere. Shorty began making her own decisions pretty much raising herself the best way she knew how. I was so happy when Boo and Bingo entered her life. They were two of the most loyal and genuine people I've ever read about, and who knows where Shorty would have ended up without them. A lot of things take place in Shorty's young life which are relatable to a lot of us women. In walks someone I thought was a her saviour, but Seer turned out to be a Wolf in sheep's clothing. When you get to know his character it'll make your blood boil. But, you live and you learn. Read this book to take this ride with Shorty. You definitely won't regret it.
In such a short amount of time Shorty went through a lot things that would normally break a person down. Shorty didn’t let that happen though nor did she let her hardships stop her from persevering. From the ripe age of 16 and a new move to a new state is when Shorty’s story really starts. The culmination of what’s happened in her life starts to unravel and we really get to ‘see’ Shorty for who she is. She’s more than Sarah. She’s more than her assault. She’s more than losing her relationship with her parents. She has found love again. Shorty endures so much in the span of a small time but she manages to push through it all. She had to go through it to GROW through it. I wish I could give this book more than five stars. Definitely some life lessons in this book. I recommend this to all readers looking for a real good, based on a true story, type book.
The author did a wonderful job with this story. I feel that this is by far her best book to date. She placed her heart and very soul in the depths of the pages of this book. The reader can literally feel the raw emotions that Shorty felt. Everything from joy to sorrow, the author vividly portrayed with her words. This story will leave you wanting to laugh and cry right along with Shorty as she tries to navigate her life through many trials. I highly recommend this story to those who are looking for a page turner that you won't be able to put down. I look forward to reading this author's next masterpiece.
Now this was a very good book from beginning to end! Shorty is one tuff person! The things she went through got me in my feelings bad! I love how no matter what she hung in there! If you’re looking for a read that’s gonna pull you in and have you thinking it’s a movie then this is the one you most definitely need to read!
This storyline will tug on all of your emotions. It was refreshing to read as Shorty grew through her trials and tribulations. I enjoyed and recommend this five star read. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
I really enjoyed Elbie Dee Shorty. As a young girl she went through a tumultuous time when she was raped. And her mother kept moving them until they ended up North Carolina( my home state). She found love in Demetrius aka Bingo and a good friend in Boo. Even though after Bingo went to jail she was in a bad place until she found a job and found out she was pregnant. I hate the fact that she met Seer's controlling ass. But I'm glad she got out that predicament and ending up back with Bingo. First time reading a book by this author and I will continue to read more work by her.
Shorty goes through so much! I love this book and how Elbie was able to get us as her readers hooked on the storyline. Shorty’s character development was my favorite part of the book. Ready for Bingo story!
This is the first book I have read by this author and she didn't disappoint. Shorty had a rough story omg. For a moment I had to stop and take a break but I had to pick the book right back up. This book was a real pageturner. I will definitely continue to read more from this author.
Shorty was a great read. Lacking love and affection from her mom made her accept men’s behavior. Bingo truly loved and show it the best way he could. So glad they got their happy ever after
