I'm not a big magna fan so it took me a while to understand how to read the story, but I did like the stories. I plan on reading any future issues when they are released.

"So you really were the stupid one all along. In that case, think on your regrets as you’re burning to death!!"

With a title that contains monster girls you would think that this would have been a non-stop evil massacre but all we got was extremely petty and catty dialogue and cat-fights. Meh. Not worth my time.

What do you do with a group of monster girls flunking all their monster classes? Put ‘em in a remedial course!

So, this is a really fun idea.

I appreciate how this whole story gives me “Scooby Doo and the Ghoul School” vibes mixed with “Monster High”. Both the concept and the art style are very reminiscent of both franchises. The variety of monsters featured in this story is super satisfying too. Each character has a cool design that reimagines a lot of the distinctive qualities of different monsters.

All that said, the story itself is kind of disjointed and difficult to follow at times.

It doesn’t appear that there’s a coherent narrative to the story—yet. So, each chapter plops readers down into a new scenario. We don’t really have a core group of characters until the third chapter and even those characters aren’t always guide posts.

So, while I like the idea, the execution needs work.

Readers who enjoy “Toilet-bound Hanako-kun” or “Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle” may enjoy this series. The art style and “vibes” are very similar~

I picked this up because I wanted something to get me in the mood for Halloween. To be honest, I feel underwhelmed. This series tries hard to be funny and charming but is neither. For an episodic story with tons of dialogue, the characters are one-note with little chemistry together. It doesn't help that they look alike and are hard to distinguish. The excessive amount of violence and gore keeps things from being stale, but I expected more out of such a cool premise. I do have all the volumes from the library so I might as well read the next one.

Love the cover and the illustrations. I enjoy the Sensei teachers more than the students, the girls all have their own problems and drama on top of school and learning how to become monsters. Basically an anime version of monster high but it’s an all girls school and has more death involved.

Monster High Vibes + gore. This was a good read. Perfect for spooky month for sure. The characters are interesting and so is the way they all seem to live differently based on what monster they are.

2.5 stars. While I love the aesthetic, I found that under the ghoulish trappings there really isn't much of a story. I hope volume 2 will be better.

Monstrum Schola

With a name like this manga claims I'll be honest with you that I thought it was a new version of Monster Girl Encyclopedia I but alas like certain other manga what we have here is the misadventures of misfit monsters trying (somewhat) to pass monster school so one day they can be official monsters. The problem is the girls we follow in the story of are basically the bottom of the school hierarchy thanks to either their lack of ability or motivation to do better (or so I am lead to believe.)

Amongst the misfits in Class Z we have Ichika Luo (Jianshi whose deadly sin is Wrath), Seiko Akagari (Ghoul whose deadly sin is Gluttony), Nemu Ibara (Vampire whose deadly sin is Sloth), Reika Kikuno (Ghost whose deadly sin is Envy), Mayoi Sadakuni (Automaton whose deadly sin is Lust), Syouko Haikaburi (With whose deadly sin is Greed), and Ringo Shirayuki (Devil whose deadly sin is Pride.) Of course no class is complete without a teacher who can handle one of the worse classes in the school so Mr D the Dullahan is on the job passing out punishment for troublemakers that would deem cruel if his students were humans. As such although the girls eventually recover it is not uncommon for (at least Luo) to die multiple times or take serious damage as corporeal punishment so be advised although this story can be cute it has its gory moments too.

In addition to the interesting art style that alternates per situations between normal and a cutesy style that reminds me of the Learning with Manga FGO comic strips this series gives us a quick summery of what happened every two chapters along with student classes with Studied materials. All in all it was an enjoyable first volume and with 7 different types of girls I am sure they will cover all sort of personality types to draw in every type of reader but I wonder how long the antics will be enough to keep the series going for very long. Only time will tell I guess. :)

Hard to follow plot wise as it’s pretty nonsensical until the last 5 or so pages, which is an interesting setup and also the funniest pages of the book.

This first volume is a fun start and introduction to the series and characters. It's looking to be a bit more of loosely connected story chapters of high school hijinks (like trying to steal lunch from the more advanced classes or getting looped into a shopping trip when all you wanted was to copy someone's homework) at this school for monster girls. I like the art style a lot so far, there was a page that resembled a fight game scene that I found pretty funny.

There is some degree of gore/violence but when your following a class with ghosts, devils, zombies, etc some gore is probably expected. I don't find it egregious or anything.

This was such a morbidly cute read! I enjoyed learned about the different monster characters as well as learning how the world works. Each chapter being in a different POV helped getting to know the cast of creepy cuties faster, but still at a digestible pace. The ending of volume 1 makes me eager for volume 2 to see if a larger plot with more characters and action comes into play. I can't wait to read more!
Thanks to Yen Press for letting me read the ARC!

Disappointed in this! I was looking forward to it and just didn't like it.

The panels and pages were too crowded with too many competing elements in the story of a Monster Girl school where the girls are learning to be full-fledged monsters but also aren't very good at school. It's got an element of horror and dark humor plus self-deprecating characters and awkward situations but on the page it doesn't come together. Unnecessarily complicated.

This was probably one of the most disappointing Reads of the year. It wasn't cute, funny, or spooky. I'm not sure what vibe it was trying to go for but it was just boring. It's about a group of monster girls who are in the failing class who fight all the time. None of the characters are likeable and there didn't feel like there was really any plot.

a little crazy and hectic...pretty chaotic overall without a cohesive storyline. but the art is great, I love how it leans into the horror aspects, and the character designs are really great! I will probably continue this one.

A funny manga about monster girls at school, but these are not the best monsters, they are in the lowest class. I laughed a lot at the antics of these girls and see what kind of monsters we had. It was chaotic, but fun. The teacher and the various heads was a nice touch.

2.5 stars

I liked it at first, but the "fan service" in the last two stories really ruined it for me. It's like for one, they are teenagers, so why are you drawing them nude? Also, forced physical touch like kissing by pinning someone down unconsentually is not cool. Honestly, pretty disappointed

Just very violent, and I never found the jokes funny. It was also often hard to read, either because the art was messy or the text was too small.

More like 2.5 cute art style but pacing is all over the place. I think it's worth a read I just wasn't quite the target audience, and that's ok :)

This was okay. A bit all over the place and chaotic. The character designs are cute but I wish they were more monstrous. D-sensei is kinda-

This was a really interesting first volume. I liked all of the different types of monster girls that the author has included. I'm curious to see where this goes in the next volume.
