Glad I got the library ebook because this isn't what I need right now. The intro says "you will learn algebra skill that are necessary for just about any high school or college math course." That's true, but I was hoping for slightly more advanced math. Currently taking college algebra, and it's not going to hurt me to review older stuff, but glancing through the table of contents tells me it's not going to help me much in my current class. I already know this stuff. Maybe it has some tips with word problems (my nemeses!) that will help me but generally speaking, I don't need to review the material covered. Not sure I'll end up reading it.
This book spells everything out step by step, it's very difficult to go wrong, it lays it all out for you, I purchased this book for my 11 & 13 year old & they do a page of equations a day. It does demystify Algebra, even I can follow it, I also liked the fact it recapped on fractions at the beginning before getting to the nitty gritty. If my kids can follow it anyone can. Great book, definitely for beginners or if you want to recap & expand on your existing knowledge. Recommended...
I've been tutoring math privately for the last 5 years, and I really enjoy the whole Demystified series. While I do not think they are particularly useful for someone trying to learn these skills for the first time, they are great for anyone trying to get a quick refresher course. They have also been a great resource to me as a tutor; I often pull practice problems that give my students a slightly different approach to some topics.
Oh... My... GAWD! I can't actually believe I really did this!! I read it... did ALL the frickin' problems... and the Final Review! Geez! My goal is to eventually conquer a calculus text. Got to start somewhere though. Liked the word problems about how long does it take for an egg to hit the floor from such and such height... heehee. Do it! Its way better than sudoko.
I grew tired of not knowing math and picked up this self-paced book. It's easy to follow, and challenging enough to those who may have struggled with math. I do a lesson a night and I've been enjoying it.
