Alex Greco ADA #2

Bleed Through

Rate this book
Silver 2020 IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award, Mystery & Thriller
One brutal attempted rape. One unbowed woman facing impossible odds for justice. One dedicated D.A. who believes her.
"First great book of the #metoo era."
"A disturbing but intelligently crafted crime drama." - Kirkus Reviews for Among the Dead, the first in the Alex Greco series
Gripping, fast-paced and unflinchingly reflective of the #Metoo era, Bleed Through will grab you from the very first page, pitting a powerful, predatory man against a young female entrepreneur, Kim Hadley, with a tragic past but also a defiant sense of justice.
Inspired by actual events in the life of a former special victims prosecutor, this second in the series continues the path of ADA Alex Greco. Still battling his own tragic past and tending its dark secrets, Alex and Kim test their mettle against an aggressive defense team which will stop at nothing to stop them- even if it means the personal destruction of them both.
On an autumn night in a chic Manhattan neighborhood, a young woman crawls out of an alley, clothes torn, bruised and beaten. Although well-dressed and attractive, she uses her last ounce of strength to flee the scene when the police arrive. Thus begins Bleed Through, a riveting and unpredictable story of a brutal attempted rape, a strong but reluctant victim, and the system that eventually takes her case, but offers as much risk and uncertainty as it does hope for justice.
Catching the case is ADA Alex Greco and Detective Angie Keegan, both newly assigned to a citywide unit designed to take on New York's toughest special victims cases. Their quest to identify the victim and encourage her to seek justice is where the story begins. But the pitfalls they encounter against a wealthy, well-connected defendant and the secrets unearthed along the way soon make for a shocking set of twists and turns that not only threaten the case but also bore malevolently into the lives of those involved.

Engrossing thriller and a must read!

Engrossing dramatic thriller of a story! Alex spins his charm and fights his own dark past as he defends a complicated attempted rape case with a surprise twist. Roger Canaff’s experience has done it again with this SVU story line.

Another great novel by Roger Canaff!

This was a great follow up to the first Alex Greco novel. The characters are well developed and the storyline is thrilling. There are many twists and turns throughout the book- you won’t want to put it down. The end leaves you wanting more! I’m looking forward to the third in the series.

wish there were more episodes

Mr. Canaff writes a compelling crime drama, there is no doubt. It’s almost as if he lived it in a past life. Please write more Alex Greco ADA books, Mr. Canaff. Good plot great characters, sophisticated writing, and a happy ending- what more could a reader want?

I enjoyed the story

The topic of abuse and gender identity was well handled throughout the book. Well written story, good characters, Alex was believable as an ADA - there were a lot of spelling and grammar mistakes. Not a good look but overall a good read

First review I have ever written. I devoured Bleed Through in hours over 3 days. A compelling and very current issues book. If you haven’t read the first book in the series, Among the Dead, I recommend it completely. Another stunner! Both masterpieces.

Great writer, great book

I liked the first book I read by this author so much that I read this second one right after. He's very real. He writes in plain language with no filler just to add pages so you feel like you're actually in the moment with his characters.

Bleed through by Roger Canaff

5 stars

A book of two halves.

The book opens with the main character, Kim, emerging from a building having clearly been badly hurt but doing everything she can to avoid the police. The book then goes back a few hours to explain exactly what happened and then deals with the weeks and months following, and the consequences of what happened. At times it flashes back to Kim's childhood but only when this adds to the story.

It is definitely a book of two halves. The first half is a good well written and solid story, but to me, it was not particularly gripping. However, around half way through the book there is an unexpected twist and the book suddenly becomes much more gripping.

Although it is the second book in the series, it stands alone. I have not read the first book, but did not feel like I was missing any background. A really good read.

This is an exceptional page-turner. Well developed characters, a consistently interesting story, and a plot that doesn't simply follow a tried and true formula. The author knows exactly what he's doing and executes flawlessly. I've enjoyed both novels in the Alex Greco series but this is definitely a step up in overall quality. Can't wait for the next installment.
