A sexy, saucy look at another side of love. "That was my moment. When I shut my eyes, I can remember the feeling of having everything I have ever wanted. I never once imagined I would know that feeling. I never once imagined I would recognize that feeling if I was lucky enough to have it. But I did - and I did. Eddy. Eddy. The love of my life is an arsehole. Cheers to me. Thank god for the sweet soulful sedation of beer." Eddy and Liz participate in a relationship study for extra cash and learn that they don't share the same opinions about sex, fidelity, career or truth. In fact, they don't understand each other. Eddy tries. Liz tires. Basement Suite is provocative and sexy - a saucy look at another side of love and relationships.

It's rare that I find a book that I read in one sitting, but Basement Suite was so enthralling that I couldn't stop myself from turning the pages. The books chapters are based on the segments of a relationship survey that main characters Liz and Eddy are taking, a creative device that leads the narrative in interesting directions and provides guidance to the story. Farrell's characters are real, and their relationships and personalities are flawed in real ways. While learning about their faults, their dreams, and their struggles, I felt that I was gaining an understanding of real people instead of fictional characters. Overall, it's extremely well written and kept me hooked from the first page to the last.

This was a great read. I'm really looking forward to more works from Susan Farrell, and am looking forward to passing Basement Suite onto my friends.

A quick read that offers an odd scenario, as two lovers/roommates fill out a questionnaire survey that asks about their love life and other personal matters. The two characters seem so mismatched at times, especially as you see how disparate they are when away from one another, it's amazing they lasted as long as they have. It gets dark at times, and the conceit of the survey feels a bit gimmicky at first, but the story and the characters do feel genuine, making this a rewarding read.
