Fifteen international authors, members of the Unleashing the Next Chapter online writers community, join forces to produce a tantalizing and diverse compilation to satisfy your appetite for the sweet, the salty, the light, the dark, and everything in between. This beachy anthology weaves the changes of life with the faithfulness of canine companions in an assortment of genres. A timid ghost follows a friendly beagle, hoping to find a forever home. Determined women dive into wild ocean waves. Vacationers yearn for the courage to turn dream jobs into permanent opportunities. Surprises await inside staid museum walls. Magic abounds, pups play matchmaker, and families forge unbreakable links in the face of adversity. Each story in this summer read will keep you coming back for something fresh, something different, something to keep you on the edge of your beach chair. Or wherever you may be.
Clarissa has always lived more in the world of daydream and fiction than in reality. In her writing she explores purpose and belonging across worlds. Having never found an actual portal to faeryland, she creates her own fantastical worlds where dragons, fae and other magical creatures rule.
She now lives in the Netherlands with her family, where she writes as much as they will let her. When not reading or writing, she drinks too much tea and has a burgeoning obsession with Bundt cakes.
ARC Review for Next Chapters Unleased: A Beachy Anthology
Edited by Sara-Meg Seese
As this was a multi-genre anthology with fifteen stories by different authors, I'm not surprised to have connected more with some stories than with others.
For example, "Lost, Then Found" by Tiffany Seitz was not really for me, although I can see how it would appeal to some.
"Forever Home" by Jessica White was a delight, and I would definitely read more like it. My favourite story has to be "Hellhounds and Hamsters" by Jackie O'Connor and I would gladly read an entire series set in this world. *cough Jackie O'Connor do the thing - no pressure! cough*. Right from the first page of this one, I was hooked. I love it when that happens, but it doesn't as much as it did when I was younger and never without my nose in a book!
Ultimately, I would recommend this for someone who wants to be able to read something quick while taking a break from whatever it is they're doing.
What a delightful collection of stories! This is the perfect quick read for summer when your mind doesn't want anything heavy. You're in and out of each story quickly. Sometimes too quickly and you want to get to know the characters more. Sometimes not quick enough when the genre use not your favorite. But in a few pages, you're immersed in a new tale. There is a huge variety of stories in the book with something for everyone. Romance, fantasy, adventure, feel good, underdog, you name it. I highly recommend this anthology of beachy themed stories.
While each story contains the beach and a dog (or more), some stories contain more beachy scenes than others and some stories have more dog scenes than others.
The stories range across several genres with some more entertaining for me than other stories. It really varies on personal preferences.
Personally, I liked Hellhounds and Hamsters, The Rival and the Rescue, and Lost Then Found the best. (Forever Home, The Culling, and Bye, Bye Pie were my next favorites.)
While each story is well done, some of the stories weren't as entertaining (for me) as others. The stories genres are listed before the story, so if a genre does interest you, it can be skipped. I read them all to give a better review. In some of the stories they needed either more beach or dog; if I'm reading an anthology with beaches and dogs, I kinda expect beaches and dogs.
I was given a copy of this anthology in exchange for my honest review.
This anthology contains fifteen amazing stories, all featuring a dog, a beach, and a new start. My story is a preview of the series I plan to work on next!
This review is for the other stories in the book, not mine, because who can be objective about their own story? There were so many fun stories in this anthology! You see its beachy cover and think "Ahh...sand and waves and dogs..." but there are mysteries, the supernatural, and love sprinkled throughout as well. I loved all of these stories so much and am so thankful to be a part of this group of lovely ladies.
