All About Me: A Hundred Things that Happened to Me Between 0 and 3

Rate this book
When Alfie was just a baby he cried and smiled and sometimes he slept. When he was one he walked, ate bananas, crashed his building blocks, and pulled Mom's hair. At two, he talked and put worms in his mouth, pulled up all the plants, and didn't like having his hair washed. All sorts of things are happening now that he's three, and they're all accounted for in this account of his first three years' activities. He sleeps in his own big bed and rides his tricycle. He can count and draw nice pictures of Daddy with six eyes, standing in the rain. He can swim and squeeze toothpaste—all over the place.

All About Me : A Hundred Things That Happened to Me Between 0 and 3 / written and illustrated by Selina Young -- London : Orion Children's Books, c2005. (80 pages) RANGE 3 -- PICTURE BOOKS

SUMMARY: Small vignettes show the progress of growing up for Alfred Sage from a baby until he turns three.

REVIEW: I love the illustrations for this book. Alfie is accompanied by his stuffed toy lion and the family cat who both make comments in bubble text balloons. The vignettes show everyday activities from when Alfie was born up until he is three. I could see readers asking their parents if they were also like Alfie, etc.

NOTE: This book was published in Great Britain and uses a few words that we do not -- for example diapers are referred to as nappies, etc. and there is the inevitable tea time.

FURTHER FUN: 1) If the child has a baby book, get it out and look at it; 2) If the child does not have a baby book, make a simple one with similar activities and time periods as Alfie, 3) Make a baby book for a younger sibling, 4) Ask an older relative what Mom or Dad was like when they were that age
