Rate this book
The Veil Riders follows the adventures of abnormal humans going into a fantastical world. Humans for decades have wondered what it would be like to go into a world unknown and journey forth to find the subjects of their mythos, and the temptation was too much to ignore. There was however a kink in this plan, as their world had been infiltrated far before the Veil ever showed them the way to the other side of the mysteries of their own histories, and the Veil Riders quickly find themselves pinned as the enemy, and used as a device to further the plans of the beings that had been controlling the destiny of humanity.

This is a story about a military (militia) company entering a portal to another dimension where common fantasy is real. They discover lots of inhabitants while skirmishing with hostile creatures and eventually hostile humans/fae.

The book is excellent at pacing and discoveries throughout and keeps me entertained. The way the company and the author treat native sentient species is in good spirit and taste, which i really appreciate. The big difference between these native sentient species and the company is the advance in technology. Its fascinating to see how they handle sharing modern advancements.

There are a lot of modern military lingo, terms, and vehicles that aren't explained properly, and sometimes, battles take place against an enemy that soon becomes their allies which leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Sometimes, enemies flip sides quickly, and it makes me feel sad that the characters have to come to terms with camping with their friends' killers the very next chapter, but the main character is generous, forgiving and always looking for ways to not send his troops to needless death which should be commonplace for leaders but it was appreciated anyways.

Overall, i enjoyed the book. i just dont enjoy the modern military and the baggage that comes with it, but i loved all the fantasy elements.
