82 Street Vandals #6

Dangerous Renegade

Rate this book
The mute twin. The strange brother. The broken one. I’d been called so many names over the years. None of them mattered. My mirror cared more than I did. But he never treated me as less. None of them did. My brothers were the Vandals. They didn’t always understand, but they never judged and they always had my back. I would always have theirs. They were my life until Starling came to us. Quiet. Hurt. Broken. Those words were tossed around along with stubborn, fierce, impossible, and beautiful. I’d studied her from afar for years, but to have her close changed everything. Trust. Acceptance. Understanding. She colored in all my missing pieces. My other half needed her too. We all did. She fought her way back to us, continues to fight to stay, and more she fights for us. She belongs. My name is Rome Cleary. Starling is ours. She has always been a part of us, even when she didn’t know our names. We will always come for our own. DANGEROUS RENEGADE is a full length mature dark, new adult romance with enemies-to-lovers/love-hate themes. The dark romance aspects of this tale continue. Please be aware some situations may be uncomfortable for readers. Trigger warnings can be found in the foreword should you require them. This is a reverse harem novel, meaning the main character has more than one love interest. This is book six in the series.

I love books. Not just a little bit, but a lot. Books were my best friends when I was growing up. Books didn’t care if I was new to a town or to a class. They were always there, my trustiest of companions. Until they turned on me and said I had to write them.

I can tell you that my own personal happily ever after included writing books. I’ve always said that an HEA is a work in progress. It’s true in my marriage, my friendships, and in my career. I am constantly nurturing my muse as we dive into new tales, new tropes, new characters and more.

After seventeen years back in Texas, we relocated to the Pacific Northwest in search of seasons, new experiences, and new geography. I can’t wait to discover what life (and my muse) have in store for me.

Maybe writing was always my destiny and romance my fate. After all, my grandmother wasn’t a fan of picture books and used to read me her Harlequin Romance novels.

Friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, friends to enemies to lovers, you name it, I love them and love to write them. I started with Earth Witches Aren’t Easy, the first in the Chance Monroe trilogy, but my characters and I have traveled a long way since I created that urban fantasy world.

One of the series I hear my readers recommend the most is the Untouchable series followed in quick succession by the Vandals, and that just delights me. No lie, whenever one of my readers brings up my wolves, I do a little a fist pump.

I’m active on social media, and I love hearing from readers. Feel free to tag me with a question about any of my books, or just say hi!

I saw another review on here list out a lot of my complaints with this book, and I entirely agree with so much of what they said.
I want to start off by saying that this series really drew me in initially, and I was super excited to get my hands on Dangerous Renegade as soon as it came out.

Unfortunately, this book fell flat for me and ended up frustrating me with the direction the series is headed in more than anything.
1. How many books are we anticipating in this series? By the end of this book, we've introduced SO MANY different antagonists, plot lines, and conflicts that I can't see them all being properly resolved in the next book. Continuing on the idea of too many things happening... There's too many fucking things happening. When this series started, it was about Em and her awful life of abuse and sexual assault growing up at the hands of people she should have been able to trust. But now? There's so much going on that it's not really about this anymore, and it feels shameful because that's such a big part of what this story initially was and who Em was, that it's cheapened the reading experience for me a little.
2. Like the other reviewer mentioned, there's too much Lainey and Milo. Jesus Christ, I don't really care about the two of them and the added drama with Ezra and Adam? It's adding another layer to this series that's unnecessary. It feels like clutter and makes the overall story harder to follow and digest in the long run.
3. We have 7 dudes in this harem. So much of this book is spent focusing on a million other conflicts (outside of the PRIMARY conflict of Em and her disgusting uncle), that we are not juggling all of the guys in the harem well enough in this book, IMO.

3 stars because it's not awful, but I'm really hoping the next book will clean up some of the issues with oversaturation as far as subplots go. I loved this series when I started, and I'd like to finish it and love it.

I can’t believe we’re already in six books in for Emersyn and her Vandal heroes. And my goodness, how far these characters have come- not only as individuals, but as a unit. From the guarded, traumatized, enigmatic and distrustful characters we met in book one to vulnerable, trusting, emotionally healing characters we see in book 6. Oh, danger is still looming everywhere and enemies still abound, but something fundamental has shifted in the Vandals, Emersyn included in their ranks. Now they aren’t trying to navigate these murky waters alone, at odds with another, impulsive and in fear. They aren’t trying to hide the broken pieces of their souls from each other, to guard all the pain and horror that has both challenged and shaped them- to keep the very fabric of their being one from another. No, now the Vandals are facing pain and danger by leaning into their histories, by leaning on each other more, by exposing themselves to those that care for them so that they can tap into the entirety of themselves. This is not longer a story about just SURVIVING oneself, persevering through trauma, because these characters are learning to THRIVE despite it, to find hope and family and LOVE out of pure darkness and despair.

Heather continues to delve deeply into the fabric of our characters. Much has been exposed, more challenges placed at their feet, but ultimately these characters had to scratch open all their wounds and bleed out all their pain into each other to start to heal. Not everyone moves at the same pace- some characters are certainly further along in the bleeding to healing spectrum than others, but their wounds are all open in some way. They’re finding the lost parts of themselves, what was buried- their humanity in some cases. The Vandals crew continue to be a story that contrasts nature and nature, dark and light, quiet and loud- but ultimately in service of identity. Identity that is no longer shaped by the ghosts of whose these characters were- of what they’ve experienced- but rather identity driven by the hearts that steel beat their chests. Each story becomes less about the past and more about the present- more about them fighting FOR a future, rather than just fighting their pasts. Healing, redemption, resilience all at the core.

The characters and their journeys are certainly what keep me invested in this story- their growth, their interconnections, their magic. Emersyn’s arc. The pacing, like prior books, is a bit uneven- but I think this intentional- we have sharp fast paced action for short stretches and there slow, more leisurely legs focused on these characters settling into themselves. These moments are like candy- focusing in on the healing hearts of our characters, getting to see Emersyn’s change in how she lives with them, how she opens up to them- one at a time. And the spice, of course. With such a long series, not every hero gets equal page or face time each story, which makes sense- Emersyn is on her own trajectory with each guy. But, the plot and bad guys have gotten increasingly complicated, and I don’t love the Milo-Lainey focus as much, probably because I feel it’s pulling from to me what still feels a lot of mending that needs to happen with Milo and Em- but we have plenty of story left, and I know our secondary characters will continue to play an important part to this story- so perhaps I’ll warm more to more page time focused on that storyline as we see it play out. In the meantime, Emersyn and her guys still have my heart- and there is a lot of work still be done, both in defeating the bad guys and in healing together.

When I tell you that I tried to slow down and savor this book, I mean it. I really, truly tried. Alas, it was not to be. I can’t help but get sucked in to Emersyn’s story each and every time.

This one packs a punch right off the bat. It picks up about where Brutal Fighter left off, and I can’t tell you how often I had to hold my breath in anticipation in the first 25% of the book.

This book has maybe slightly less action than Brutal Fighter, but there’s a bit more personal growth (not just Emersyn’s) as well as progress in developing relationships. There is a fair amount of spice, which has leveled up fairly consistently throughout the series when the story allows for it. We also get plenty of one-on-one time with each potential love interest, including my favorite 🌭 Freddie 🌭

We learn a heck ton more about, well, just about everything - Vandals, their allies, their enemies, some overall history, and other supporting characters. This book may be slightly less action-packed, but it’s a goldmine of new information.

This is book 6 of 9 and the series is definitely still going strong. It does end on a bit of a cliffhanger, but it’s not quite as brutal as some of the others have been (which my heart appreciates 😂)

We are just stretching it out for no reason.

I love the vandals series….. usually, but there was zero point to this book. Absolutely nothing happened in this story until I was at 80% mark on my kindle. Then that didn’t last long before we went back to filler crap then about the 95% mark we got an actual story then BAM! End of book. It took me a over a week to get through it. I can normally get done in a day. But I had to push myself to finish it. The only thing we were given at the beginning of the book was a new bad guy. This could of been condensed down and added to her next book in this series. This book did not require an entire book alone. This is the 2nd author that I read whom I really like that is stretching out a series just to make another book. Guy’s If your good I will continue reading what your writing even if it’s brand new. I like your writing styles not just you 1story line. If the next book starts off to be like this one I’ll have to put it in the DNF.

I enjoyed most of this book mainly because of the characterizations of all the MMCs, and seeing everyone together, including Milo and Lainey, becoming the family Em has always needed. With that said, nothing is resolved in this book. Absolutely nothing. 6 books in, an zero antagonists have been dealt with and only more have been added to their plate. We now have a new antagonist, a different person taken by that antagonist, the King demanding to meet Em (but also waiting 6+ weeks??), get uncle is still doing who knows what, and now we're supposed to care about rescuing Em's mom? And someone please validate me when I say JD needs to go and he's gonna be the one infiltrating rat they miss until it's too late smh. This is dragging on and on. I enjoy their sweet interactions, but I wish there were more resolution.

I wanted to love this book so badly, the story has been great throughout the books but there are alot of characters and so many side plots going on its really hard to keep in the storyline.

I love that it touches on mental health and abuse and it has been done in a good way although I feel we lost it a little bit in this book.

The good parts are that we had some good one on one time with hellfire and each of her men but keeping up with a harem of 7 is alot! Hell most of us struggle with one man!

This series is going to go on for 9 books and I hope it doesn't fall flat because its a great story and Heather is an amazing writer!

Book six picks right up from where book five ended

Emersyn and Rome have been taken, and the Vandals will do anything to get them back. In order to protect Emersyn, Rome takes on the identity of his brother Liam. Rome has a coloured past like his brothers, if underground fighting ensures the safety of Emersyn, then that’s what he’ll do. There captors don’t take kindly to having their patience tested and Emersyn pays the price, but its during these fights that Emersyn is exposed to the grittier side, through it all she controls herself, and at one point takes matters into her own hands.

When the Vandals get word of Liam having supposedly thrown a fight, that’s news to him, however it is there first piece of vital information they have garnered into the possible whereabouts of Emersyn and Rome, discussions ensue and plans begin to form to extract both Emersyn and Rome safely. When they see Emersyn they are shocked by what they see, moreso when Liam trades places with Rome to show them who Liam really is, but what throws them all is the sacrifice Adam makes for Emersyn’s release.

Milo is happy to have his sister back safe, moreso Freddie and Jasper who are still recovering from their own trauma and injuries. Liam is coming to terms with what Rome did to protect him, when Liam knows that he is the reason why Rome and Emersyn were taken in the first place. Liam begins to push Emersyn away, but Rome is having none of that.

Lainey comes back into the fold, having learned what happened to Emersyn, which she is not too pleased about, but it’s also interesting to see the dynamics develop further between her and Milo, and how there relationship continues to develop as they navigate through everything that is happening around them both.

Emersyn begins to explore her relationship with Freddie. Freddie is still very protective of Emersyn after Pinetree. Well aware of Freddie’s own trauma, you can clearly see they’ve identified boundaries that will support the progression of said relationship.

Doc is back into the Vandals fold, there to support the Vandals crew, especially Emersyn. Doc purposely pushed Emersyn away, afraid of his feelings for her, considering the age gap between then. They slowly come back together, Emersyn slowly rebuilding her trust with Doc, in the process repairing there relationship, its during this process that Doc discovers that Emersyn thrives on praise, and he will do everything he can to see her smile.

In light of what Jasper and Emersyn have endured, Doc spends most of his time overseeing there physical therapy sessions, supporting there strength and endurance. During the process Emersyn and Jasper push their limits under Doc’s watchful eye, more than happy with how Jasper is progressing but moreso the resilience and determination Emersyn is showing in building herself back up from the bottom.

Kellan, Jasper, Rome, Liam, Vaughan, Freddie, Doc and Milo are aware of some, if not most of the trauma that Emersyn has endured at the hands of her uncle and at Pinetree. Emersyn, with the support of her guys, discloses her trauma, ripping off the bandages that has held onto the pain manifesting inside of her, acknowledging what she has ensured so that she can begin to heal from the pain.

The only people she has disclosed the whole truth too is Freddie and Doc, but moreso Emersyn is afraid how Milo will perceive her, yet it’s the retribution that Milo will seek on her behalf for the promises that were made to ensure that Emersyn had a better life, we’re broken.

During this process Vaughan and Kellan work together with Emersyn to help her through her triggers, replacing her trauma with the pain and pleasure that they give her, that she is in control of her thoughts, her actions, but most importantly her body, that she sets the rules and what she says go, helping her to communicate her wants and needs through words.

The Vandals don’t like lying to Emersyn, but there are some things that they must keep from her, when Kellan, Jasper, Rome, Liam and Freddie put a plan in motion to flush out members of there crew, brothers within their own ranks who put there needs above the loyalty of the Vandals, putting everything they hold dear at risk, they are frustrated with how they took the easy way out, not taking responsibility for their actions, left with more questions than answers, around who is attempting to infiltrate them, them being one step ahead of the Vandals.

With most of the works completed on the warehouse, with the festive season approaching, the Vandals prepare to give Emersyn happy memories and give her a Christmas that she deserves, one that she will remember with the Vandals also sharing there own nostalgia of the Christmas’s they shared when growing up, but the most bittersweet moment is when Emersyn finally receives the acknowledgment from Milo that she truly is and always will be a Vandal, having finally found her place, her family, her sense of purpose of where she truly belongs after being alone for so long.

After Liam needs Adam’s warning, a war is coming, one they will be prepared for, but what is more shocking is when Emersyn learns that her mother is in hospital, but not of her own free will, and Emersyn knows without a doubt that she will not let her mother suffer the same fate she did, for now she has the support of her brother Milo and the Vandals, because anything is possible……

This book has it all romance, five possessive dominant alpha males, a strong female protagonist who gives as good as she gets, love, murder, madness, mayhem, revenge, vengeance, violence, trauma, intrigue, defiance, adrenaline seeking suspense, humour, friendship, jealousy, twists, turns, truths, deception and betrayal.

Please head the trigger warnings for this book, they are intense, but are what shape our characters, telling the readers who they are flaws and all, that they are in fact humans who all feel but handle what happened to them differently.

This story is told from multiple POV, it will take you on a wild ride, having you turn page after page, this book had me from the beginning to the end. Reading this story, it enables the  readers to really connect with the characters, and as the story unfolds the readers see the development and growth from the characters singularly and together.  The author definitely knows how to write and I’ll be coming back for more.

And those s*x scenes were steamy, yet sensual, dirty, hot, intense, physical, provocative, it had all the angry angst, hate, jealousy, pleasure and passion one would except when Kellan, Vaughan, Jasper, Rome and Liam, show Emersyn who they really are and takes them for all that they are, darkness and all. For they take what they want within reason, each giving Emersyn the pain and pleasure she deserve, their possessive and obsessive need for control and dominance, it was off the charts and had all of the feels.

Despite Emersyn’s trauma, Kellan, Vaughan, Jasper, Rome and Liam work well together in there own way, throw in Doc and Freddie and nothing and no one will come between them. They love each other, regardless of there differences, because they are in this together. Milo is learning to accept the dynamics of Emersyn’s relationship with Doc, Freddie, Kellan, Vaughan, Jasper, Rome and Liam as is Emersyn is with Milo and Lainey.

Now here’s to anticipating what book 7, Merciless Spy brings!

House cleaning first, thank you for allowing me to read the ARC for this book. Now to the good stuff.
I stumbled upon this series on FB, and I went through the first 5 books like a mad woman, and then had to wait for this release. But it was so worth the wait!!!! Emersyn and her guys are on another crazy journey, we continue to learn more about her and the guys as a whole. The dynamic between her and each of men is magic, I am really cheering for Doc and I can't wait to get to his story. Rome is my second favorite. In this book, you get an appearance from Bodhi. I don't want to give too much away, but I can't wait for the next book, and I know Heather will work her good juju once again.

Amazing!

Dang it Heather! How do you always manage to me ugly cry?!? The scenes with Freddie BREAK ME most of the time. But this book was just as amazing as expected. Heather manages to make you smile, to get your cardio in with the increased heart rate, trim your nails as you go through anxiety, and, of course, ugly cry for the catharsis. On the bright side the ending wasn't soul rending so I'll take it. To say that I fall in love a little more with these characters in every book would be a gross understatement. I genuinely can't pick a favorite and I love the dark adventure of this series.

The plot thickens but the Vandals are there kicking butt and taking names. Emersyn gets a chance to show her strength while all the guys grow with Freddie really making a lot of progress. They are surrounded by threats that are helping them learn to work together more equally and be more cohesive. We get many sweet moments with several steamy ones that keep things moving along at a quick pace. The focus on character building really helped solidify everyone's individual voice. Looking forward to the next book!

Oh wow things are getting better and worse for Em and her boys. Lots of uos and downs in this book as they continue to try and figure out who all their enemies are. Love that Bohdi is back and can't wait to hear more from him. Freddie is still my absolute favorite. So ready for the next book to see what happens next.

Dangerous Renegade by Heather long is a reverse harem romance. This is the sixth book in the 82 Street Vandals series.

I absolutely love this series! Heather does an amazing job pulling me in from the first chapter and keeping me hooked until the very end. I am loving the relationship between Emersyn and the Vandals.

I really enjoyed getting Emersyn, Kellan, Doc, Vaughn, Liam, Jasper, Rome, Liam, and Freddie's point of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

The book ends on another cliffhanger, which isn't a surprise since Heather warned us it would happen. I can't wait for the next book in the series Merciless Spy to be released on December 20, 2022.

I would recommend this series to anyone who loves dark romances, enemies-to-lovers romance, new adult romances, reverse harems, or romantic suspense.

Nine books is a lot and so I am only going to write a series review not an individual review for each book. The series started out with 5 stars but then it got boring and did not have enough interesting things to keep my attention. Books 6-8 can be completely skipped. I read them but after reading them I felt they could have been skipped.

There were a lot of things that happened thought the series that were not needed the most annoying one being her mother. Throwing her mother's rescue and recovery in the book was way too much I didn't care enough about the mother for it to be worth reading. Also when I read RH I expect each guy to be completely unique and distinct and have different personalities so they don’t blend together. In this series, the guys all blend together. There was only one of her guys who stood out and had a completely unique personality and he became by far hands down my favorite guy Rome. I also loved how unique Freddy was but I considered him a friend in books 1-5 so I don’t consider him one of her guys. The biggest problem red flag with this aeries was how long it took the guys to realize who her abuser was and for them to take nine books before they get rid of her abuser is way way way too long. When he was not gone and still a problem in book four I lost a lot of respect for the guys.

I would give books 2-5 and book 9 ⭐️5 stars. But when you add in all the filler things that happened thought the series that were not needed it becomes a 3-star series that being said ai am a sucker for unique nicknames and tattoos. Both of which the book has lots of so I am putting the series at ⭐️ 4 stars. The reason it gained a star was because each guy had a truly unique and beautiful different nickname for the heroine. The other reason for gaining a star was how much detail the author goes into describing each of Romes's art pieces and the guys and the heroine's tattoos. The author did a great job painting the picture in my mind so I can give the series ⭐️4 stars!

Starling Already Did........

After that cliffhanger, SO many people had to be happy for this book to release. Emersyn and Rome…gone. Vanished. Impossible to locate, until one key secret leaks out and the Vandals FINALLY Have a way to find them…..Renegade doesn’t lose.

MANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN is this book good. I love watching the pieces of the chess board move and cards being played of snippets of details shared, Heather sure is pulling our strings (the readers) and being careful to not reveal too much as to where Emersyn’s story is going, and I sure do need more. Just when you think everything revolves around Emersyn and her being a Sharpe, Dangerous Renegade reveals that there is so much more to this. It makes me wonder, how long has someone been manipulating the lives of the Vandals (and Emersyn), and were they ever really separate. Makes me wonder, how far back does this go? As we learn more and more of each of the guy’s backgrounds, it makes me feel like this has been a long time work in progress. Liam being the target and the villains being after the King, along with what’s been happening in Vandal territory…..very curious

Once again, Emersyn, with one move, reminds us that she’s kind of a bad-ss. And I’m here for it. Girl power all the way. “You can’t kill the guy who did it”....”Starling already did”....Adam and his instance that he is engage to Emersyn…priceless and genius. That whole scene was masterfully executed. Though, not going to lie….I’m intrigued for the Emersyn-Liam-King meet. It better not be over tv. I’m DYING to know who the king is.

And man, I need more Milo and Lainey. Stat. Wonder what roles Adam & Ezra will play into this series as it moves along. I love that Milo has given her the nickname of Mayhem (though, I’m slightly said it wasn’t a bird nickname so she could be a Vandal, even if it was declared she’s a Royal by Adam and Ezra (who says they are in charge and she wants to be a Royal)? “Whatever else I do while i”m here is none of your business. You’ve made it clear that I’m a nuisance.” But is she really to them or is it more? Regardless, I have to say I love their devotion to Lainey (yes, I know Adam is a step-brother, but still), their willingness to help protect Emersyn for Lainey and work with the Vandals says a lot. I think, maybe it’s time for the King to face the music and the music says He’s not number one anymore because the people are sick of being controlled and having their strings pulled…they are wanting maybe a little more say…ala the Magna Carta (see what I did there)?

The return of Emersyn and Rome moves us further into the Vandals story and what makes them tick and the mystery of WHO is after the Vandals. Who is targeting them and why. I love watching the guys navigate their relationships with Emersyn and each other. “Possession is nine-tenths of the law, And I have her right now…” Every little bit adds to the story…and her relationship with Milo just gets more and more precious. “I said we haven’t added anyone in a long time, Ivy. You are one of us. You’ve always been one of us.” Cue ALL the tears, though her rat question prior to this scene was hilarious. AND the moment where she learns who Miss Stephanie’s Brother is, was absolutely hysterical.

The information shared about how the person who marries Emersyn having access to a ton of money, and how the Sharpe family still has not announced this time that she is missing, is so very important. I’m kind of frightened to learn what they find out about what the family’s plans, were for her since they seem to have so much wealth tied up in her name. Is it the family? Or was it just UB? We hear so little of her Dad. We’ve had some Mom scenes of her being defiant about being told what to do, makes me wonder if she has been controlled with Pinetree like her daughter was. But what of Emersyn’s adopted Dad? Why do we hear so little? What’s his angle that he allows his brother so much power in his immediate family.

But this new bit of information, that Bodhi just dropped? I’m here to find out that, because it just so happens to answer some of the questions I still have…….Also, there is no such thing as TOO big of a Christmas Tree. NO such thing, at all.

This was the first book in the series that was a 4 star for me and not a 5 & that was purely because I thought there was a bit of filler throughout - lots of renovation talk, lots of group meetings to hash things out! It didn’t seem to progress much in this book outside of them getting Rome & Em back as the start!

However it was wonderful to see her finally start a relationship with Freddie + start mending fences with Doc! Also super happy to see Bodhi come back at the end, I’ve been super curious about him since we first met him!!

The men in order of preference in book 6 along with their current relationship status:

Liam - 🍆
Rome - 🍆
Kellan - 🍆
Freddie - 👄
Jasper - 🍆
Vaughn - 🍆
Doc - 👄

*i’m also waiting for I love you declarations. They’re my fav part of a book, especially rh series. So far only Jasper has said it to her & she hasn’t said it to anyone!

There were so many incredible funny sarcastic scenes in this book that it’s so hard to pick a favourite, two of them are below and the BUTT PAINTING SCENE HAD ME 🤣🤣🤣

“Where are you sleeping tonight…?” “Dibs,” I said right as Vaughn voiced his dibs and Kellan cleared his throat. The corner of Rome’s lips turned up, that smile looked kind of painful when it tugged at his bruises. “Rock, paper, scissors.” Then he stuck out his fist. Freddie chortled, but Milo gaped. “Are you for real?” “You can’t play,” Rome told him, like Milo would want to decide where our girl slept… then again…he might. I stuck out my fist. So did Vaughn. Lainey’s fist came out and I had to laugh. Emersyn glanced at all of us and then Liam thrust his fist out and I shot him a look. Freddie grinned and walked over to put his fist in, too. That just left Doc, and I wasn’t the only one who glanced at him.

“I’m next,” Jasper said. “To play me or kiss Dove?” Vaughn asked with so much amusement, I half-giggled. Heat suffused every inch of my body. Then Jasper said, “How about both?” “How about we play for kisses?” “How about you losers settle your own debts?” Liam challenged, his eyes glittering as he winked at me. “You don’t want to play for kisses?” I teased. “Fuck no, I want to play to take you home with me.” “Oh damn, look at the time,” Jasper said. “You have to go. You mentioned it earlier.”

Things we still don’t have answers too:
• Milo going to prison & why
• the king & who’s behind BRR
• Brixton & who he works for/adam being with them
• a conclusion on her uncle
• figuring out all these names they’ve gotten off people (Constantine ect)

I’m waiting for answers to alllll of these in the next few books 😭

Current enemies:
• the king
• her uncle
• Brixton and whoever he works for

Round 6 of our beloved Vandals. I always feel so damn happy when I get to return to Braxton Harbor with these boys, even if Heather lives to bring us pain in those cliffhangers that leave us chewing our nails until we get the next book! *cough cough, Brutal Fighter, cough cough*

Silver linging though, we really do just get thrown back into the deep end of the action, and thank goodness because after the last cliffy I NEEDED to get to the part where I could breathe again!

Ok, Book 6, let's get into it! I really feel like after the chaos of the first 25%(ish), this book allowed us to slow down a bit and rebuild the Vandal family and bonds between all of the guys. No secret some of them have strained relationships, some of them struggle more, and some of them need something different from Emersyn than the other guys may not need. This was the one we got to see all those beautiful moments and I love getting insight into their mundane and everyday lives on top of all the bigger and thrilling plots taking place. We totally get the gift of information with more histories and secrets are being unravelled, we're learning more about every player on the chess board and how moves are being strategically plotted.

Now, how are the guys doing I hear you ask? Well, let me start with the love of my life, Rome. He melts me in every single way. Everything he endures to keep her safe and out of harm is going to set your boyfriend bar unrealistically high, like seriously I won't accept anything less in my real life than Rome Cleary. I also feel like his sense of humor is shining through and his interactions with everyone are so dry and cut throat that it makes me laugh everytime. "You're late." 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

I'm OBSESSED with the soft side of Jasper. He always reassures her that she's loved and is worthy of being loved by all of them, who would have thought he would transition into this role? Not me, but I am here for it! And Freddie?! GAH! When I tell you I SCREAMED with happiness and I know you will too! I think my prayers for justice for Freddie were heard!

I could talk about the guys forever, Vaughn's gentle giant nature, Kellan's protective and praising side, Liam's sexy bossy ways, Doc and his patience. All of them just make me swoon! This one, without a doubt, my favourite so far! 👏🏻

All the emotional fuzzies!
So this one picks right up after the ending of Brutal Fighter and you’re instantly thrown into it 😬 there’s confusion there’s confusion as to why Rome and Emersyn and it leads to a wealth of possibilities for the Vandals as to who - with them fearing the very worst 😞 however it introduces new entirely inconspicuous enemies to the game which sets everyone on high alert 🚨 there’s plenty of action going on in this first 25% of this book with Starling being a little bad@£$ and Rome being all protective 😍!
The tempo in the rest of the book slows down a little and it becomes more of a focus on the building of their family unit 😄 after everything that’s been thrown at them along with the perceived disloyalties *looking at you Liam* misunderstanding *oh Micky Micky Micky* and jealousies *ahem Jasper* it felt like they really needed this - and he nearly it was beautiful to read! There’s some resentments that have been put aside and the banter they through at each other 😅 you can see them really beginning to unite and recover from the last three years! I love the relationship Milo and Emersyn are building as siblings as well - and some of the deals they make 🤣 it’s interesting to see each of the guys relationship build with Emersyn and what they each need from her - such as Freddie, there’s a real vulnerability there that they’re working on 🥰
Not only that but we’re fed information about each of their histories that really solidify out who they are. We also get insights into some of the trauma for Emersyn but I love how she wants to overcome it, Vaughn and Kellan are just 😍😍! It’s dealt with realistically and respectfully - 🙌🏻 to Heather for that! And with the hiking of their relationships oh does the 🌶🔥🌶🔥🌶 start to rage!! Some 🤤 scenes in there!
So I got to 94% and I was like there’s so much love between them and fuzzy feelings (the tattoo discussion - IYKYK😍😍)…..what the hell is Heather going to throw at us in this last chapter?? It’s not quite a humdinger as other cliffhangers in this series but it certainly took the story in a way I was not expecting!!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

The mute twin. The strange brother. The broken one. I'd been called so many names over the years. None of them mattered. My mirror cared more than I did. But he never treated me as less. None of them did. My brothers were the Vandals. They didn't always understand, but they never judged and they always had my back. I would always have theirs. They were my life until Starling came to us. Quiet. Hurt. Broken. Those words were tossed around along with stubborn, fierce, impossible, and beautiful. I'd studied her from afar for years, but to have her close changed everything. Trust. Acceptance. Understanding. She colored in all my missing pieces. My other half needed her too. We all did. She fought her way back to us, continues to fight to stay, and more she fights for us. She belongs. My names is Rome Cleary. Starling is ours. She has always been a part of us, even when she didn't know our names. We will always come for our own.

This is the sixth book in the 82 Street Vandals. It is also a dark reverse harem romance. You will want to heed the warnings as this book might contain some triggers for some readers.
I was so excited to have this book in my hands. I had missed being in Braxton Harbor with the Vandals. This book throws you right back into the deep end into chaos and I was living for it. If you have read the last book, Brutal Fighter and you need to have, you know that we were left on the edge of it all maybe throwing our kindles trying to catch our breath and we pick right back up in this book. I loved that the bond between the Vandals was rebuilt and the bonds are just getting stronger in this book. They all need something different from Starling and it slows down just enough to see the relationship more clearly that they all have with her. But in this book she also shows her strength and I loved that so very much. But makes no mistake threats are still there that has them growing in their strength by working together. This is the book you have been waiting for for the getting to know all these characters and feel like your more a part of them and what is going on with each other them and I loved every second of it and devoured it too. You do not want to miss this book. You do not want to miss this series either.

well rounded and great continuation

Sometimes it’s really hard to write a review because the book was just so good. I’m sitting here thinking I’ve got to say something but I can’t convey all the feelings I have for this series and book but I’m going to try.

First off I fell in love with this series from book one. Even though it’s a series I feel like it’s so well written in that each character is defined, and each book kind of has its own vibe. It might be the same overall storylines and places but gosh there’s just so much weaved in there that it was hard to stop reading. The reasons I did stop reading were because I either read until passing out at night or towards the end I stopped because I wasn’t ready for it to end. The struggle was real.

In Dangerous Renegade we get more of everyone there might be a bit more of some characters than others and I have to say I missed Vaughn in this one but he is there, just felt like less but I might feel differently when I reread. (Yes this series re read able)We get Liam and we get Rome and I just love them! They’re adorable. (But honestly I love them all) There we’re literal lol moments and serous moments and kick booty moments. And what I loved was that this book solved some things, introduced new things, and continued others, it just felt well rounded to me. And I really appreciate the attention that is being given to these characters because even though there’s all these things that they/the characters are dealing with I’m feeling content as reader, I know I’m in good hands with Heather.

For anyone who has not read the 82nd street Vandals, start it now with Savage Vandal! Continuing fans you’re going to love this book you’ll get all the feels and will be happy with what you get.

I’m giving all the stars to Dangerous Renegade
- great continuation
- All the feels, light, funny, steam, emotional
- Well rounded and written
- Page turner
- Looking forward to the next book

Rome and Emersyn have been taken. They have no idea who their captors are except that they believe they have Liam. This is Royal business. Yes, they have the wrong twin. They wanted his other half. Instead, they have the artist, the odd mute, the broken one. But his Starling brought color into the gray areas of his life. She made his brothers happy and made his other half happy. So, he will be his mirror and do whatever it takes to keep his Starling safe until his mirror finds them.

This book is all about character growth and renovation and I was thrilled with both. Emersyn is really coming into her own. She's been through so much in her outwardly perfect life. She's a pretty picture hiding abuse, trauma, and loneliness. She's had one person she loved unconditionally during her entire life and she has had to hide her for their protection. So, now when faced with overwhelming adoration and security from 8 men, she has a hard time trusting. She wonders if she is worthy and if it will last. In this book, she finally started opening up, making her confessions. She shared the ugly part of her past and asked for help getting beyond it. She was vulnerable and it showcased her strength. She is learning to ask for what she wants. She's beginning to stand tall. Soon, I hope she will fly again. She's not the only one who stood tall in this book. Freddie is still sober. He's embracing life instead of avoiding it. And Rome, as his mirror, shows every bit of the strength Liam has. He lives life as he has chosen to. There is nothing wrong with him. His path may seem odd to others but it's his truth. He proved he can integrate into society when he masqueraded as his mirror, a powerful, successful man. The fact, that he lives apart from the "norm" may cause others to judge but it doesn't make him lesser. There is strength in individuality. And he has a band of brothers who allow him to be himself safely. The Vandals love was on full display in this book. They have an extraordinary bond that has been strengthened and purified by Emersyn's inclusion and the return of Milo, Doc, and Liam, and extended to Lainey. Excellent book, now bring on the mirror.

Steaminess: 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5

Tropes: Reverse harem, Dark new adult gang romance, crime

Triggers: Murder, violence, mention of sexual abuse and addiction, assault

Standalone or series?: Series

POV: Multiple

As with all the other books in this extraordinary but long series I devoured it entirely in a very short while, because damn, I adore these Vandals each individually but also for their love, protectiveness, and inseparableness for/from each other and Emersyn.

The first maybe 25 % of the book is fast paced mainly because of the cliffhanger from the previous book, while the pace slows afterwards for the rest of the book. There isn’t much action in this one. After the events of the previous book The Vandals and Emersyn uses this opportunity to upgrade the clubhouse, while making it more of a home that includes Emersyn and her likes and opinions. While this goes on the book has a heavy focus on personal -and relationship growth with rebuilding and strengthening bonds and regaining trust after everything they have been through. Secrets are divulged and some of the Vandals even start helping Emersyn overcome her trauma, so she can become the boss of her own body and mind. The relationship between some of our characters finally begins to blossom (YES!) even though it is push and pull with Liam for a while. Doc is finally spending more and more time with The Vandals/becoming a part of them again and we get to experience some more sibling relationship building between Milo and Emersyn.

New enemies are revealed, and an old friend from one of the previous books appears briefly which was great and I’m crossing my fingers that we will see this person again in Merciless Spy!

I found this installment to be excruciatingly slow.

There's a lot of unimportant conversations (CONSTANTLY expressing concern about people's health, how worried or anxious they are for the members of their group, how they're going to decorate their clubhouse, how they want to kill someone that's hurt the FMC, etc ad nauseum) and repetitive arguing (Lainey and her harem).

Also, the FMC only spends time with some of the guys sexing them up. I feel like those scenes could have just been omitted completely because they interrupted the pacing/flow. I only want scenes that are relevant to the current plot and action because otherwise I just don't care.

I was also disappointed by the treatment of Freddie's character. I feel like he just goes back to being ignored by everybody (including the FMC) and the way the FMC treats him with kid gloves romantically is just bizarre since he clearly has no issue being physical with women (as evidenced by the numerous mentions of his exploits in previous books). It feels like this is done just to emphasize how *different* and *not like the other girls* the FMC is. Like damn, at least have him talk dirty to her like he normally does instead of turn into this shy blushing neutered version of himself.

I also can't help rolling my eyes sometimes at the amount of orgasms the FMC has. It's 3-5 average every time she has sex, and sometimes she has sex with a couple dudes in the same day. She's always just pleasantly sore afterwards, too, even though she has had a lot of physical trauma from sexual assaults. I call bullshit. I mean sure, it's fiction, but that defies logic just a little too much.

But, so, yeah, that's basically it. Not a lot of plot or action in this one. Skim city.

Dangerous Renegade is the sixth book in the 82nd Street Vandals series and absolutely must be read in order. It picks up right where we left off in Brutal Fighter, with Rome and Emersyn missing. Obviously we do get them back but it's not without a cost.

So as we get further into the series, there is less I can write in my reviews. Only b/c I don't want to spoil anything and it's hard to do at this point. So without telling you any of the major points in this book here's what I loved. Well for one, I LOVE FREDDIE. He is and will probably always be my absolute favorite. I adore the way that he and Em have such a special relationship and how she is helping him so much. In much the same way, Vaughn and Kel are helping Em overcome her past. It's going to be a long road but an interesting one for sure.

We do get to see them all come together and grow as a family. It's a beautiful thing as they all learn to love and trust each other. With all of their relationships being different b/c the guys are different, it takes work for each one. Not just the romantic relationships but Em and Milo's relationship as well. Plus we still get the little tidbits of Milo and Lainey which I know you all love as much as I do.

As always there are some twists and turns in this book. Lots of action. Fun sexy times. Murder and mayhem. We also get to see a blast from the past. They bring Em a little present that will lead to another adventure. As always, I loved every second on this book and can't wait for the next one.

WTF even was this book?
I'll start by saying that this series began soooo strong and I couldn't put it down. I started to struggle to stay interested in book 5, and almost gave up. This book started out really strong again and I was so excited, like FINALLY we're getting some plot! And then Em and Rome get rescued and the rest of the book is literally just home renovations.
I really struggled to get through this book. The only reason I haven't DNF this series is because I love the characters so much. But even that's falling off a bit, because the guys are all sort of morphing into the same cookie cutter character that bends over backwards at every turn for Emersyn. That's not necessarily BAD, but it's like...idk, boring? Maybe I just tend to lose interest a bit when the push/pull, will they/won't they tension is over in romance stories, and the characters are together. Then it's just like...meh. There's no conflict anymore, no angst.
And I swear to god if I have to read another entire book of VERY DETAILED home renovations, I'm gonna scream.
Also the cliffhanger about Em's mom at the end of this book is just like...ok?? And we care why?? Maybe if the person in trouble was like, Ms. Stephanie, or literally any other character that the reader actually cares about at all, it would be different. But like, Emersyn's mom? Literally who cares lmao.
SIGH. I will push on and continue to the next book, in the hopes that the plot will start plottin'. But I just needed to throw in my 2 cents. This book was HARD to drag myself through.
