The school camping club takes its first trip as a complete group and delivers the first half of a super low-key travelogue of a camping/sightseeing trip through the mountainous peninsula of Izu located about 75 miles southwest of Tokyo. The group dynamic, scenic views, and interesting roadside attractions kept me engaged in a series that can tend toward boring.
The final preparations for the OEC's March multi-day camping trip in Izu is underway. Their teacher is driving Ena, Aki, Nadeshiko, Aoi, and Aoi's little sister Akari (yes, good, future OEC members) while Rin makes her own way on her scooter (newly upgraded thanks to her awesome grandpa and some new accessories).
Time to see some cool geological location, amazing hot springs, visit the Iidas (the heroes from the Lake Yamanaka trip), and get into some troubles along the way... while also secretly planning a birthday surprise for Nadeshiko and Aoi.
It's a start of Izu camping and I love it, Rin takes her moped and the rest riding with Toba-sensei and chibi-Inu joining too and the theme is Geospot, lots of place that I really want to visit, because they all looks so beautiful, lots of fun and laughter and foods (wasabi ice cream!? I really want to taste that) and adventures to get to camping site and many more on the next volume. Overall it's a relaxing fun read.
I have said it before and will continue to say it; no book truly gets that crisp cool air quiet like Laid Back Camp does! It truly teleports you to the mountain air. Epis scooter rides! Epic card rides! An epic adventure to eat unique foods along with seeing unique places! This book continues to be the ultimate chill read in my pile! Afro (creator) delivers another great adventure that is age appropriate for all.
My favorite gentle camping series continues with the much heralded trip to Izu. With wasabi ice cream, traffic jams, and camping site miscommunications our group has the usual amount of silly adventures. I’m looking forward to Izu camping round two and hopefully some more cooking in the next volume.
After a lot of prep work, the outdoor excursion club visits Izumi! The usual setbacks are encountered en route, but it always turns out all right in the end.
The OEC is headed to Izu for a camping trip all together. Rin is driving up on her scooter by herself and the others are all driving up in a minivan with their teacher sponsor and meeting Rin there. Two of the girls have a birthday during the trip so the others are planning a surprise for them. Rin's grandfather and dad help her get her scooter ready for the longer trip. And Nadeshinko was so excited for the trip she didn't sleep a wink the night before and misses most of the fun on the ride there since she sleeps most of the way (like seeing sakura and eating wasabi ice cream).
In the back of the book Afro says this story is going to continue in Vol. 9 with more of their time in Izu. This book just covers their prep and drive to Izu and the first day of sight seeing. I don't know my Japanese geography well so it was fun to get to know what all can be found in this region. I feel like I'm getting an armchair tour of Izu.
Notes on content: 1 minor swear. No sexual content (they go to a hot spring but they are kept very decent by water levels and foam). No violence. The girls convince their teacher to go without alcohol for a huge chunk of time in prep for the trip. I'm happy to see them looking out for her (even if there are some other motivations to this). There is one scene with her drinking a beer (to the chagrin of her students).
