When I saw the cover and the synopsis, I must admit that I was really intrigued. I didn’t know the author, but how could I resist a story about ghosts and witches? It’s something I’m always interested in!
Remington lost everything overnight, so when she received an inheritance from her deceased former best friend – a house – she decided to return to this small town she never thought she would see again. But now, this move is going to change her life.
I have to say that I am quite surprised, because I was expecting something different with this synopsis. I was expecting a novel based on witchcraft or ghosts, but it wasn’t really that. I think the author had a lot of ideas, but I think she wanted to put too much into it and in the end there are many things that are featured and left open. And that’s a shame, because I think the novel could have been much better.
It was an interesting novel and I had a good time overall.

First, the cover shown on Goodreads is not the same as the cover on the book I have bought from Amazon…. Anywho… it was a fairly good story but Remington ( is this really a girl’s name? It just makes me think of Remington Steele) as I was saying she is not a very likeable character which spoiled my enjoyment of this book. I do have the other 2 books in this series so I guess I’ll eventually read them. All in all it is a pleasant read.

Hexes and O's by Lisa Wells had me laughing out loud throughout the charming read. Ghosts and witchcraft, a sizzling romance all combine to create quite the plot... but it is the main character, Remington Smith that steals the show from the beginning. Her normalcy, her insecurities and her zany sense of humor drive the story. She is definitely a woman worth knowing and as she begins her journey of self discovery, we...the lucky readers, get to see the real Remington emerge in the middle of chaos and laughs!
I felt that Hexes and O's was a well written fun novel dealing with complex themes like friendship and rejection in lighthearted ways. I love the friendship between Remington and her best friend and how it is timeless and real. I can't wait to read more about Remington and her life in this new crazy town full of mostly older people, and her hunky neighbor, Jason.

I felt that Hexes and O's was a well written fun novel dealing with complex themes like friendship and rejection in lighthearted ways. I love the friendship between Remington and her best friend and how it is timeless and real. I can't wait to read more about Remington and her life in this new crazy town full of mostly older people, and her hunky neighbor, Jason.

Lisa Well’s paranormal romance, Hexes and O’s initially caught my attention with the title. It reminded me of that song… Ex’s and Ohs by Elle King which I used to love. After that, I had to see what the story was all about!
The story beneath the catchy title was just as appealing. Wells’ ability to write laugh out loud, quirky characters was the first thing I truly loved about her writing. It’s not often I react so strongly to dry humour in a book but this one had the right amount.
Remington and Jason’s relationship as neighbours was rife with mutual attraction, misunderstandings, banter and the appeal of forbidden relations. The rule set by Remington’s dead best friend, Beth, had them both promising to stay away from each other despite their strong attraction. While this might have been a tedious aspect to read about due to Beth’s manipulation, the context behind Beth’s decision (which we were privy to as readers) made sense. I couldn’t help my desire their HEA though!
The inclusion of multiple paranormal aspects in this story was one of my favourite parts of it. There was magic, ghosts, hexes and a spell backfire of a meowing dog! I love a good mystical, magic romance and this one delivered on all fronts. Beth was the perfect kooky side kick with memory issues and Remington had a stubborn, kind nature that appealed to me as a reader. Jason annoyed me at times as a character but the level of manipulation placed on him made his choices more bearable to read and understand.
There was a surprisingly plot twist that added a dash of crime/mystery to this story that was developed quite well but overall felt slightly unnecessary. I would have preferred to just read about Remington’s to-do list and forbidden attraction as opposed to deeper topics and for that have reduced what would have been a 4-star to a 3-star. Others may enjoy such a twist though!
If you’re after something fun, non-angsty and hilarious then this is the story for you!

Hexes and O's has its moments
It's a sexy and charming paranormal romance, it's a story about family and homecoming, there's a thread of corporate skullduggery, and there's the curse on Knotty, the town haunted by ghosts. The best parts? Author Lisa Wells absolutely WICKED sense of humor. Her one-liners and snarky dialogue had me laughing out loud. Also, the blockbuster cast of supporting characters is amazingly well handled, and the ghosts in particular are a treat. Our heroine Remington is a wild blend of starving artist, badass, and hippy chick -turned - witch. Hero Jason is a nice guy/player and real estate developer , and completely smitten with Remington, his witchy , wacky neighbor. Beth the BFF/ghost is a ditz with a heart of gold. The downside here is the sheer complexity of the tale. So many sub-plots, so many themes, multiple mysteries - it becomes just a bit overwhelming. trying to keep track of it all. Enough loose threads have been left to assure a sequel if not a series, but it was clumsily engineered. I do think the best aspects of the book makes it worth reading, and I so enjoyed the author's sense of humor that I want to read more. This is a voluntary Arc review.

It had potential…
This book had a great premise but I swear every 5 seconds I was being slapped into a new direction with a near constant info dump of magic rules. The slow burn was the most frustrating part. Yes they finally do it but it was the most uneventful thing ever. I read through 70% to get to that? The abrupt ending left me irrationally angry. Is there magic? Yes. Are there witches? Yes. Is there meddling ghosts? Yes. Good idea, but needs developmental editing work.

Hell, her Casper with a vagina even had running gear stashed in the closet for Remington. What kind of person dies prepared to haunt her best friend?
Cute; decent writing. The H’s character motivation was a little hazy for me, as well as some of the other aspects of the effects of magic. I might read this author again, if only for the quirky humor.
The thought deflated her spirit like a boob smashed during a mammogram.

This was a cute book. Written in 3rd person and it switches between Jason and Remington. She has to go back to her home town since her best friend died and left her a to-do list. It was cute, funny with lots of mystery and ghosts. I really liked it.

This was so cute! I loved the characters in here so much, even though there were times when I wanted to kick the main character's butts. I plan on reading the rest of the series sometime and really hope I get to see a bit more of this couple. I loved the banter between the two and the found family element in here too. The ghosts were great and the magic was too. Can't wait to see what else happens in this series!

Remington is having a really bad day, think of your worst day and it is worse than that bad. She finds out her boyfriend is a loser and stole her money, which in turn she lost her job and is now homeless because she can't pay her rent. To top it off, her best friend Beth dies and she didn't even know that she was sick-nevermind that they haven't talked in years.
However, Beth left everything to Remington in her will-a fully furnished house and life insurance, but there's a catch. She has to complete Beth's to-do list-and boy is it a doozy. Sure there are easy things like living in Knotty while the list is getting done, running a marathon for the orphans (while not exactly easy, it is easy to complete), get to know one of the boys at the orphanage-but there's a few more: one night stand and don't fall in love with the neighbor, Jason.
Remington finds that not everything is hunky dory as she thinks and learns there is more to herself than she knows. Read on to find out what messes she finds herself getting into and out of.
First of all, I really did like the story and the plot! But the reason for the three stars is that it seems kind of scattered. There are a lot of unanswered questions and things that are just really out there and feel like they are tossed in to make the storyline make sense, but they are not completely talked about. Just as you are at the end and the story feels like it is building, it ends.
This story is full of sexual fantasies, so if you don't like that type of story this may be uncomfortable for you. It just feels like it focuses more on the sexual tension than the to-do list and things that are happening. I do recommend reading this story and see what you think as this is my personal opinion.

This book was a lot of fun, Lisa Wells has a great sense of humor and she's not afraid to use it! On the surface this is a fish-out-of-water story with Remmington Smith coming back to Knotty instead of NYC because she inherited a house and a to-do list. And becomes the town's witch. And sees lots of ghosts. Fortunately one of those ghosts is her best friend Beth, the previous town witch. Remmington's life gets complicated by the hot guy next door who goes through women like toilet paper, but also seems like he could be a good guy. Beth wanted Remmington to come to Knotty to find a home and discover that family can have many meanings- a sweet message it takes Remmington awhile to figure out.
'Hexes' was fun and funny, with plenty of snark to make me happy. I had to take a star out of the rating because I really didn't like a lot of the relationship between Remmington and Jason- he tries to drive her away (he thinks for her own good) and he uses every cruel word and hits every issue he knows the insecure Remmington has. But she keeps coming back for more. There may have been decent chemistry between them, but I wasn't a fan of her jumping into bed with him after he hurts her so much, despite how she justifies her actions. Also, so much of the plot falls apart when you actually think about it that it makes no sense.
But still, I enjoyed Remmington and Beth and would say this is a fun book as long as you keep it on the surface and try not to think too hard. A book and characters that Stephanie Plum fans will enjoy.

Remington Smith is a costume designer who loses her job, her home, and her boyfriend all in one day, then inherits a ‘to do’ list and a home from a childhood friend (Beth Henderson) in Knotty, Missouri later that same day. Beth recently passed away from cancer at the age of 24. Remington grew up in an orphanage in Knotty, but was never adopted, while Beth had a family and was her best friend growing up. It turns out that Beth was a witch, and by giving Remington her spell book, she transfers her witch powers to Remington. As a result, Remington has to right some wrongs and figure out how to save her hometown.
She gets help along the way from a few friends and a few ghosts living in Knotty. These young and old friends make the story come alive! She also has a romantic interest in her neighbor, Jason Hart, who is renovating the town for Think Tank Innovations. However, Beth warns Remington not to fall in love with Jason, so she is wary of trusting him, and for good reason. He is very wishy—washy with Remington. At times, he seems fully invested in her, and at other times, he pushes her away without explanation and pursues another.
There are a lot of fun things in this story. The banter sounds natural and the friends come from all walks of life and are all different ages. The tension ramps up as the story unfolds, and there is a bit of a mystery regarding the orphanage that Remington and Jason have to solve. This story is creative and definitely original. Remington just wants to belong somewhere, and she has to experience some heartache in order to find that place. She eventually does find that place, and there is an HEA ending.

This book was not what I expected, but I loved it nevertheless. Beware, this is book one of a series, something I did not know until I nearly finished this book with a lot of unanswered questions…..
The book is about Remington, a badass chick, who’s just been dumped, is about to be homeless and jobless when she gets a letter in the mail from an attorney. Beth, her childhood best friend, had died and left her a house in the small town they both grew up in, Beth with her family and Remington in the orphanage. To get her inheritance, Remington needs to fulfill a to do list Beth compiled for her, including but not limited to, moving into the house she left her and running a marathon.
When she arrives in the little town, called Knotty (adorable, I know), things are different from when she was little, including the red hot neighbor next door. As she gets reacquainted with her dead best friends ghost and gets tasked with lifting the hex on the town, things are not as they seem….
This book was not as witchy and spooky as I expected, but I liked Remington. She is a badass woman, who has some issues with feeling unloved, but nevertheless gives everyone all her sass and love and everything.
I really recommend this book to fans of new adult books with a tint of witchyness, hexes and a some nice spice and some tantric sex….

All right, so this was kind of adorable and I had fun reading it. As soon as I started, I couldn’t help but like Remington. She’s sweet, sassy, but also quirky and a little awkward – a great combination to have me laughing out loud at several points in the book. Add in the ghost of her dead best friend with slight amnesia, and a deliciously sexy neighbour, and there were many things I really enjoyed. The sexual tension between Remington and Jason was well done and even though I rolled my eyes at the cheesiness of some of the lines, it really helped keep the mood light and fun for most part. This being all said, there were also some things I wasn’t too fond of about halfway through to the end.
I have to admit that I didn’t expect several things that happened in the last portion of the book. The sudden mystery twist was interesting, but it felt randomly placed. Because of this, everything after it felt disjointed and scattered, as if there were too many ideas and too few pages to fully flesh them out. The previous lightness now felt burdened and I was left with a lot of questions by the end. Still, this is the first book in a series so I’ll be interested to see what comes next for Remington and Jason, and the little town of Knotty.

With a hexed small town named Knotty, a sexy neighbor named Jason, and an inherited haunted house, I knew I was in for a real treat with this story. Remington never planned to return to the place where she grew up in an orphanage, but when her best friend, Beth, dies and she inherits a house, how could she stay away? It mattered not that the two friends hadn't spoken in years. The bond remained. And when Beth makes herself visible to Remington, the story ramps up. Armed with a book of spells, Remington embarks on the journey to becoming a full-fledged spell-casting witch. Ever seen a dog that meows? Perhaps some of the spells need a little tweaking. This author has such a knack for writing quirky, steamy stories, and this one is the best I've read so far. The characters are charming, if not a bit eccentric. The ghosts that roam about are entertaining at the least. But the sparks that fly between Remington and Jason literally turn into visible streams. The story takes a dizzying array of twists and turns, with a surprise ending that I could not have predicted. There is a good bit of humor in this story and I laughed out loud more than once. If you want a sexy easy read that will entertain and distract you, this story is for you.

I did enjoy this story eventually, after a lot of picking up and putting down.i finally bit the bullet and forced myself to read more than a few pages.
The main FC Remington, has inherited a house from her childhood Best friend Beth, whom she hadn't spoken to in a while.
To inherit there are a few caveats; Remington MUST move to knotty, complete a to do list, and not fall in love with Jason Hart!, it seems simple to do, after all, she's off men for a while, except once she meets him, it's very difficult for her to keep her thoughts clean, and the more she gets to know him the less clean her thoughts are.
But all is not lost, with the help of her friend returning in ghost form to help Remington complete the to do list, learn how to become a which, remove hexes and fall in love once the hexes have been removed. She will easily inherit the house.
This I found was a bit long winded, however this is book one and there is a lot of potential for singles town knotty, Also the author has a fantastic sense of humour and I chuckled more than a few times.

The introduction's first two paragraphs tell me how much fun this book is going to be. Who is Jason Hart? What does he do for a living? Who is Remington Smith? What does she do? Where do we find her and why? This mystery story had romance, comedy, threats, friendship, and chosen family in it. When things are set in motion, in a town that Remington swore she would never revisit, because of Beth, Remington has no choice but to return. What happens while she is there? Why are her memories of this town bad? What do we learn from Beth? How does that secret change Remington, if at all? What is going on with the other children in the story? What do we learn about the place where they are? This was such a treat to read. It completely floored me when I learned what was truly going on.

Remington Smith is an orphan who inherits a Knotty residence that belonged to her best friend Beth. Regardless of her condition, her character exudes confidence and a sense of humour even after being rejected. She trusts in her third eye ability: a belief in ghosts which you must have to take part in a Seance.
Beth, the ghost, was Remington's best friend who dies and leaves her home in Knotty to, along with a list of things-to-do. I thought her character was a bit complicated as she is stuck in the veil for having unfinished business, only she can't remember what :/
Jason Hart is the main distraction who steals women's hearts and lives next door to Remington. Their romance is a work in progress. However, opposing factors of murder mayhem and other unpleasant outcomes had me worried for a minute. Thank God it didn't degenerate into worse things.

This was my least favourite of the three Singles town books. Although it was the only one that actually explained the series title.
The problem was that Remington seemed to lack purpose, other than to swoon over her neighbour Jason. There was something to do with a to-do list her friend Beth left her as part of a last will. But that was drowned in the swooning. And Beth’s memory was leaky as a sieve, so she was no help. I think that part was supposed to be an element of comedy. Alas, it was lost on me. There was something to do with the FBI, but that was a convoluted plot point. And left the story with some unnecessary loose ends.
Anyway, for the most part the story fizzled. Perhaps if it had been about 30% shorter, some urgency could have been introduced.

For a first book in a series, the world was set up fairly quickly and easy to follow. At this point, I've read so much paranormal romance/urban fantasy, that I can tell where a plot is heading. This book was no different, but Lisa Wells' writing was humorous and put a fun twist on the usual paranormal tropes. It was good, paranormal fun.
The ending was....odd. There was no closure regarding the main character and her love interest. Rather, there was no FINAL resolution. Just seemed like there were a lot of loose ends. I know this is a series, but it was unclear whether this character's story arc would be finished during one of the other books. Now that I know the next book is centered around a completely different character, I'm assuming I won't get that resolution. I'm going to read the second book to find out, so it was a good marketing ploy since not resolving the first one made me buy the second. Sigh...

Remington Smith inherits a rundown mansion from her recently deceased friend Beth, and it comes with some caveats. She must live in this mansion for one year while she completes the Bucket list that Beth has assembled for her. Oh, and Beth is “haunting” the House from the second veil until she can accomplish a mysterious task. Meanwhile Remington has to figure out just how far she will go with Jason, the sexy neighbor, she has to try and save her business in a small town in the middle of nowhere and she has to deal with her snappy little dog Max. Funny, entertaining and snarky with a dash of emotional spots, this is a good book to take your mind off things. It did take me a little but to get into the story, but once things started to get rolling I liked it.

Remington Smith has just received a letter from an attorney informing her of the death of her childhood friend, Bethany Henderson. Enclosed with the notice is a letter written by her friend Beth telling her she has left Remington her furnished house in Knotty, a couple of streets over from where she grew up. She also left a to do list for Remington to complete in order to inherit. She must go to Knotty and live in the house and take care of the things on the list. This has come at a perfect time as Remington has lost her job and is going to be evicted for non payment of her rent. Once in Knotty, she realizes she can see and hear Beth's ghost. Funny things begin happening from the first. Can Remington find out what is happening and can she stop it with the help of her new neighbor Jason Hart?

Hexes And O’s had all elements that made it a fun read for me. There was mystery, a large dollop of steamy romance and lots of supernatural beings.
The small town was creepy in some respects. That was the hex part in many ways.
Remington was an unusual name for the heroine, but it grew on me and fit. It was sad she had been distanced from her BFF from childhood, but exciting that Beth’s death actually reunited them.
As I came towards the end of the book, I could understand why all the answers were not provided. This novel was #1 in a series. I hope to be able to read the second one in the near future, so I can learn more and satisfy my curiosity.
The author was new to me. I have subscribed to her newsletter to learn more about her back list.
If you need a good story to keep you entertained and turning the pages, Hex And O’s will be perfect for you.

I want to give this book 3.5 stars but rounded up.
This book was okay. I had a hard time getting into the story. I expected from the blurb to be drawn in right away and that didn't happen. I did enjoy the story more the further I got into it so if you stick with it you should be fine.
The premise is really intriguing and had so much potential. Remington is a fun character, she's quirky and witty and funny. When she inherits the house she has the added bonus of actually seeing Beth, the ghost/friend/witch who gave it to her. Throw in a very hot neighbor to spice things up more and it should have been a grand slam. I'm hoping that further books in this series will get over that awkward start.

I must say it's a cute little book, MINUS the very sexually explicit and graphic scenes in the book, which to me seemed completely out of character for the rest of the book.
The positive of the book is that it's a simple, quick read, but the negative is the ending. It just...ends. Obviously for the set-up for book two, but I'm so tired of authors writing with their minds focused on and in the future before they've even set up the first in the series. It seems too many are so worried about hitting that next successful trilogy, or worse yet, the "never ending" series, they've apparently lost sight of their original purpose of and for writing.

Quirky, oddly believable, and full of small-town heart warmers. Wells created a hometown every Southerner can jump into with both feet. Gossip, get-togethers, game nights, more gossip, good food, and friends who become chosen family are the perfect backdrop for a ghost story full of secrets and sexy men! I seriously read this story in one sitting and can’t wait to see who else comes to Knotty! I will say the odd outfit changes kept me chuckling, there is nothing like celebrating Halloween/Easter/Christmas all year long!! Thank you for approving me to read Hexes and O’s through Book Sirens!
