I read this book way back in the 1980s in one go. I don't know how many times I reread it since. This book leads the reader from a rather amusing perspective of a bright adolescent boy in rural England in the 1970s/1980s to a direct confrontation with powers told about in the tales of old. It's a brilliant yarn, wonderful descriptions, great sense of humor. I've always wondered why this book is not famous.
