Two boys, one boardwalk, and her sweetest summer ever Jules Jarvis never asked to be a rags-to-riches cliché. Since moving from simple Sugarbush Island, Florida five years ago to elite Greenwich, Connecticut, she has done little but miss the life and the true friends she left behind, especially Adrian Ryker. With one touch of her knee against his, her then twelve-year-old heart was stolen and never returned. Now seventeen and headed back to Sugarbush for the summer, Jules hopes to reconnect with her old life by working at the candy apple stand on the boardwalk and reuniting with the friends she left behind, particularly Adrian. The only problem is she ghosted them all five years ago when seeing their pictures and posts became unbearable. Now she’s back and ready to eat a big ole crow sandwich with an extra-large side of groveling. It’ll be worth it to follow the hope of discovering where that magical knee touch might lead. But Heath Townsend, the irritating boy interning with her stepdad for the summer, won’t quit popping up at the exact wrong times, making it twice as hard to connect with Adrian. Jules is here to rebuild her life—not fall for a preppy, cocky, Yale-bound jerk, no matter how charming that quirky smile of his can be. For fans of Jillian Dodd, Beth Reekles, Jenny Han, and anyone who loves a great YA love triangle romance!
Melissa Chambers writes contemporary novels for young, new, and actual adults. A Nashville native, she spends her days working in the music industry and her nights getting lost in her characters. While she’s slightly obsessed with alt rock, she leaves the guitar playing to her husband and kid. She never misses a chance to play a tennis match, listen to an audiobook, or eat a bowl of ice cream. (Rocky road, please!) She’s a member of several online and local writers groups, all of which she treasures and is unendingly grateful for, and has served as president for the Music City Romance Writers. She is the author of the Love Along Hwy 30A series, the Destiny Dunes series, the Broussard Brothers (of New Orleans) series, the Before Forever series (YA), Courting Carlyn (YA), and Two Boy Summer (YA).
I have not read any of Melissa's YA books yet until this one. I very much liked the book! It kept me entertained, had a good story, and character growth.
This story is about a young girl who returns to her hometown and tries to reconnect with her childhood friends that she ghosted on five years prior. Now that they are in their last summer before senior year of high school they are all finding themselves and defining their relationships with others and within their own close-knit group. This is a true coming of age book where you see the immaturity of teenagers and them starting to have more adult and difficult conversations and truly figuring out who they are.
I have two teenage daughters(13 and 15) that if they wanted to read this book, they can, since there is nothing graphic, a few swear words, and shows how every group of friends has ups and downs. It may not always be easy, it takes courage to have those difficult conversations, and all about growth within yourself.
Although a bit on the teenage angsty side for my personal taste, Ms.Chambers delivers another solid story about relationships growing up into adulthood. Tight knit friendship groups of grade school frequently experience rough patches as individuals mature at different rates. When some relationships are abruptly broken at delicate stages by family changes, it can leave those individuals in limbo, clinging to the might-have-beens, unable to move forward.
Ms.Chambers has a masterful hand at drawing very realistic teen and young adult relationships that model natural growth for both individuals and their friendship groups. I would recommend this book starting with teens 13 to 15 and up.
I received an ARC copy of this story from the author and voluntarily chose to share my review.
Two Boy Summer is a story of a 17 year old girl returning to her home after moving 5 years ago. Not only did she leave the only place she ever lived but her four best friends. She’d been thrust into a new life of privilege and felt a disconnect happening with those she left behind. Upon returning, she hoped to right the wrongs and make amends. Thrust between feelings for two boys, she begins to questions what she really wants. Will she go for who she always thought she wanted or the new boy who drives her crazy.
Thanks Melissa Chambers for the advance copy. I truly enjoyed this book. I do love the stream of her other book but it was nice to read a book wherever all the teens aren’t sleeping around with multiple partners. It’s definitely a book I’d recommend to my teenage nieces.
Seventeen-year old Jules is looking forward to returning to Sugarbush Island to spend the summer working on the Boardwalk and hopefully re-connecting with her group of close friends. She's nervous about being accepted back into their circle since she ghosted them after moving to Connecticut five years ago. Things get even more complicated as she fights her attraction to the hunky intern working with her stepdad. It becomes a summer of love triangles and teen angst. Thanks so much to Melissa Chambers for the opportunity to read and review her newest YA novel, which is also a great beach read.
