Deeply rich, emotionally complex romance perfect for fans of This is Us.
Her heart will lead her home.
Beneath Minty’s cool, classically beautiful exterior, ripples of doubt and unease define the perimeter of her rule-driven world. Minty has OCD. The kind that’s too ugly to share. Especially not with a sexy younger man who’s only supposed to want a good time.
Fun-loving and infinitely patient, Lucky Triggs’ entire world shifts under Minty's enigmatic smile. He’s not used to chasing women. And she’s leading him on a merry one.
Despite their age difference and his status as a single dad, Minty decides to give Lucky a chance. But when things between them heat up, her truth boils over. Fearful of the burn, she flees.
But Lucky has no intention of going anywhere. He can handle her OCD and anything else life throws at them. If she just lets him in.
She’s everything he never knew he wanted. He’s nothing like she planned. But if she wants her happily ever after, she’ll have to take a leap of faith.
Mental health, adoption, child abuse, intrusive thoughts characteristic of OCD.
First, it needs to be said, this book is not for every reader. Again, for the speed readers in the back row, this book will not suit every reader. So please, do us all a service by heeding the warning from the author. But for those daring and determined enough to dip their toe in these murky but brilliantly sparkling waters, the result can be stunning, invigorating, and life-changing.
This story is raw and authentic – life in all her haphazard, chaotic, messy glory. It's the distress and heartache of a brain that betrays and deceives, and the constant struggle to ensure those secrets never see the light of day. And our heroine, Minty, oh boy, does she have secrets.
On the surface Minty is cool, calm and collected. She’s the giving, loving, generous friend, and the voice of wisdom and reason among her peers. Her knowing smile and classic poise exude confidence and a quiet certainty. But the fragile façade she’s created hides a world of secrets. Dark, insidious, shameful secrets she’s determined to keep locked down tight. Until their eventual, inevitable escape.
Not to mislead you, because Minty's story is absolutely a love story. A story of epic, glorious, fated souls love. And our hero, Lucky? This man! He falls with a single look, never once wavering or questioning, and when he gives his heart he’s all in. He's the calm to her storm, the anchor to her rage, and the light to her darkness. Her perfect counterpoint and balance. And he's just stubborn enough that there's no getting rid of him.
It's the story of a strong, fierce woman who battles her demons incessantly, faces her fear boldly, and carefully, thoughtfully gives love a chance to bloom. A story of a found family of close friends who hold her steady when she wavers and pick her up when she falls. A story of finding that one person in a vast universe who sees beneath her façade and loves her unconditionally, demons and all. And it's a story, most of all, of hope. Hope that in this big, crazy, imperfect world, we too can conquer our own demons and find the other half of our soul.
Make sure that your safety bar is securely in place, because this one is a wild ride and a whiplash of emotion. I snort laughed, I swooned, I gasped, and I cheered. My heart lay in ruin in one moment then sprouted wings and soared the next. With a Devin Sloane book, I know my heart will be torn and my emotions battered, but I’ll come away with a satisfied soul and a different perspective on the world around me. So gird your loins, guard your heart, and take a chance on this masterful, incomparable, extraordinary read.
Another high intensity read by Devin Sloane dealing with mental issues and how they affect those inflicted with them. In Mountain Road she takes on OCD and all the nasty issues that come with it. I had NO IDEA what all was involved in OCD and the horrific and unwanted thoughts of sexual obsession and harming others that can occur.
In this book, Minty has been dealing with her OCD for years and has plenty of coping mechanisms in place. There are definitely limitations on her life due to her mental illness, one being that she doesn't think she will ever have a long term relationship. Then Lucky enters the picture and is willing to work really hard to learn about her OCD and what she needs from him in order to make it work. He is another incredible Sloane Hero that just couldn't be more loving or understanding.
Sloane manages to educate about mental issues while also writing a compelling romantic story. It's not always easy to read and won't be for all readers, but she wrings all sorts of emotions out of you while reading her books.
I was gifted a copy of this book by the author. All thoughts are my own.
Oh my heart. I have cried more reading this week than I have in a long time. This book was beautiful and absolutely heartbreaking. As someone who has mild OCD this book hits home. You’ll experience the struggles, love, and support Minty experiences. Lucky is the hero Minty didn’t know she needed until she did. It’s hard to grasp mental struggles unless you deal with them yourself. Devin has done what many other can not. She was able to put these into a story for others to relate or learn from. This is definitely one for the bookshelf collection. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Did he just call her psychotic because she couldn't understand his relationship with hope? Honestly I don't think any woman would. I freaking don't think even they themselves did. "I accidentally got my best friend pregnant lol now I play house with her, she and that kid is everything to me but hold on we're not in a relationship, we love each other, we're family but not in that way, she's like a sister to me with whom I have a child lmao how hilarious is that, right?" They are freaking married couple without the sex and paperwork. Of course she feels like a homewrecker like wtf dude. Psychotic the word he used..... And his manwhoreness..... Constant OW drama. Which I loathe in books. Honestly I stopped actually reading from that point. I skimmed over after that because I just couldn't dnf a book. When she mentioned how she's having problem with brayleigh his first thought was that she's having problem sharing him with his daughter. That nonsense of a men😒 And why he started to research about OCD after her flare up?

“There is joy to be had, but we can’t grasp it if our hands are full of fear”
There are many kinds of fear. The questions being, can we as individuals face it and do we possess the tools to overcome it? Prior to reading “Mountain Road” by Devin Sloane, I had heard of O.C.D. I did not have any idea of the expansiveness of the disease, the many forms it is capable of manifesting in, nor the constant battle those that suffer from it wage daily. Some of which are referenced in the author’s trigger warning.
Minty turned out to be more of an enigma than I ever suspected. In no way could I have ever imagined her strength of character. Which made it more real to read through her raw emotional break down. I was heartbroken and in tears for her. Lucky, this guy, I can’t even…he is perfection for Minty and I am in love with him. No worries Minty as I will covet from afar because you certainly deserve him.
Sloane is a master at expressing camaraderie between friends and writing characters her readers can relate to. I want them all to be real so I can hang out with them! You will literally feel the friendship, love, caring and support reach out from the page as if wrapping you in it’s embrace. Thank you, Devin, for using your brave and compassionate voice to enlighten those of us that may be in the dark. I’m always learning from you.
I highly recommend this heartfelt and emotional story, which provides its reader with gripping insight into the complexities of navigating a relationship with a partner dealing with O.C.D.
I received and ARC from the author and this is my honest, unbiased review.
I am just speechless, Devin just delivers better and better story each time. The writing, plot and characters get better with each book I read. I was highly impressed by her writing style when I read her book the first time but this one is truly a masterpiece. The story was gut wrenchingly beautiful, It was heartbreaking and yet heartwarmingly beautiful. The plot deals with yet another sensitive issue which is dealt with very realistically and sensitivity in this story. It deals with the ordeals of serious OCD and the battles of someone who is dealing with it . I have heard of OCD and have read about it but after reading this book I am more aware of the extent it can impact someone. Minty has been dealing with OCD and was trying to live as normally as she could but she knew with her condition she can’t have a long term relationship. But sometimes fate has different plans she was not expecting Lucky to enter her life. Can I take a moment to swoon over Lucky he was absolutely phenomenal, just perfect. He was stubborn to not give up on her yet understanding and caring . He learned everything he could about OCD . He was everything that Minty needed. The story was captivating and beautifully written. The story has triggers but I would highly suggest you read this book. This is one of the best books I have read this summer. Can’t wait to read what Devin would write next for us. After Mountain Road Devin has set the bars high and tremendously raised her readers expectations. Highly recommend this book!
Mountain Road is real, raw, and emotional story. Minty is a sweetheart, loyal to her friends, but she's hiding her mental issues. Living with her daily struggles must of been so tiresome. Lucky is a single dad, musician, who has a heart of gold. From the moment he met Minty he was intrigued. He know he wanted to be the one by her side. I liked seeing past characters, they were so good. This author writes real life stories.
You’re more beautiful than the breaking of the dawn,” I murmured, touching my finger to the softness of her cheek. “You make every day new.”
From the moment I met her, I'd longed to slip behind the veil and that had not changed. I wanted to know her mind, feel her body, hold her heart. More than anything, I wanted her to know that her heart was safe with mine.
in, his eyes sweeping down to my hands before returning to my face. With one finger, he separated my twisting fingers. “You’re everything I never knew I wanted and far more than I deserve.”
Turning, he folded both my hands in his. “I’m going to make you so damn happy.” For the first time, his light didn’t hurt my eyes and I didn’t feel the need to look away. “You do, darling. You truly do.”
She was such an enigma, a gift. Layers upon layers and I planned to remove every single one.
“I’ll further elaborate to add my baby, my sweetheart, my beautiful lady, my soul, my heart, my happiness, my fucking eyes, Minty.”
This is the most beautiful, most heartbreaking ugly crying book Devin has written. The struggle Minty goes through on a daily basis is gut-wrenching. I never realized how horrible OCD could truly be until reading this book. My heart shattered reading about the hold OCD can have on a person.
There's so much struggle in this book but also so much love and support. The things that go through Minty's mind is upsetting, even more so knowing that sometimes she doesn't know what's real and what's the OCD. And to find love with a man like Lucky is one in a million. Lucky never gave up on her. Even educated himself on OCD and its subcategories so he could support Minty in every way. Even when she pushed him away, he never truly left and he made sure she had whatever she needed from those who love her.
You get to experience all the different relationships Minty has with her found family. They each get a unique side of her that's specifically for them. Gus and Minty's relationship is my favorite. Even though it's only a chapter, you can see that what they have is completely different. It's deeper. Like their souls are old friends and they found each other once again.
If you're looking for a deeply emotional and beautifully written book this one is for you.
What I love about Devin's writing is that she does not shy away from tough issues. She has covered a multitude of mental and physical health issues in her stories and this was no exception. I admit I was fairly naiive about what OCD was, I did not understand how vast it was and the anguish that sufferers live with. This was truly eye opening. The research that has to go into something like this to make it as seamless as it seemed is astonishing. Regular, every day occurrences were interspersed with Minty's troubled thoughts and it really made me take a breath. Characters in this series have been so well written and they have such beautiful bonds. I loved the introduction of Hope and Brayleigh, "mine Sparky" has to be the most adorable phrase you can read. I loved the scene where Minty came up with the Captain moniker for Lucky and I loved pretty much every scene with Lucky in it full stop. Now that is a book boyfriend right there! The spicy scenes were HOT and plentiful, I loved seeing Minty unleash her inner self and show Lucky what she needed and was unafraid to ask for it. I could gush on and on about this to be honest. I think it might be my favourite from the Bridgewater and Milltown series'.
In Mountain Road this is Minty's story. She meets Lucky a high school music teacher.
These two take a journey together and that is what I want to call it because I felt like I was on a journey.
A journey to find the real Minty!
I can't even imagine how she copes daily with the thoughts that cross her mind. How she manages to get out of bed, to function. She is so strong!
Captain *cough cough* I mean Lucky was a true support for Minty also to note Sexy AF guitar playing motorcycle riding and dirty in the sheets. *Wink wink*
Minty has so much love and support that surrounds her so she doesn't need to go through things alone it's wonderful.
But Devin has done it again. She has created a story that is so raw and incredible but the characters in her story are those we can be drawn to and just feel so real. Especially in cases of OCD like Minty's I can't even imagine. I didn't even know that there were so many Sub-types of OCD. In a way I feel very ignorant for this.
This book is eye opening and emotional in a way that will stay with me for sometime to come. Minty and Lucky's story was just beautiful, emotional and Real.
There’s something so special about Devin’s books. I simultaneously fall in love with the characters and their stories, while also learning so so much.
The character development is on point, and so so beautiful. I’ve been curious about Minty and her story for what seems like ever, and I am so proud of her. I enjoyed every eye opening minute of her story. And Lucky, I mean honestly could she have even come up with a better man?! I love the chemistry between Minty and Lucky, and Lucky’s patience. He is so perfect.
Being a person who works with individuals with disabilities and mental health disorders, it’s so refreshing to read characters who have these conditions. I couldn’t love Devin’s books more. The plot is always so deep with all of Devin’s books, and this one was no different.
I loved how much the Bridgewater series’ characters were in this book. It brought it all together and I am all in for it. The family vibes were immaculate.
Devin’s books are deep and emotional, and contain possible triggers. With that said, I can’t recommend it enough!
Devin Sloane’s writing improves with every book. I’ve loved Minty since I first met her, and her story did not disappoint at all. Her heart, character, and soul are on full display, as is her mind as she deals with the daily struggle of managing OCD.
While mainstream media has occasionally exposed aspects of OCD, most people, myself included, know very little about just how invasive, not to say difficult, this disorder is. Sloane showed the full spectrum of OCD beautifully. The heartache and passion Minty endured because of her intrusive thoughts, along with triggers and how she copes, bring greater understanding of a complex issue without the book seeming like a clinical case study.
And as beautiful and strong as Minty is, Lucky is understanding, accepting, and stubborn enough to not give up on her. In fact, Lucky has reached the top of my book boyfriend list.
Sweet, sassy, this story is as beautiful as Minty’s Mona Lisa smile.

Before we even get started, please be aware of the trigger warnings! The author addresses an h with serious OCD and definitely has her demons to battle. Minty, the h, appears to lead a normal life. She does have a strong support system in place thou so that is most helpful. Lucky is absolutely swoon worthy! You cannot help but love him, especially after he realizes that Minty’s demons are hers to battle. This is the first book that I have read by Devin Sloane and to see her show those with mental illness and trying to regulate the stigma is wonderful. Few authors will opt not to have mental illness in their books but Devin attacks it head on and is realistic with it. I would definitely recommend this book if you are able to get past the triggers. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
**Please read trigger warnings before reading this book as it isn’t for everyone**
Minty on the surface has all the confidence in the world. On the surface she has it all, the smile, the friends, and the charisma. She has it all. But deep down she is hiding behind the facade she has created, Holding her dark and shameful secrets locked away where no one can see.
Lucky is a man who wears his heart on his sleeve once he commits he is all in 110% there is no going back.
Lucky is the opposite to minty, he is the yang to her yin . He is the light to her dark.
This story has it all. a rollercoaster of emotions. I haven’t been on this kind of ride in a while. I loved it.
Devin Has floored me with this book. I haven’t read a book by her before but I now know what to expect when I do. It’s a ride I definitely want to keep going on.
We were introduced to Minty in the previous book and we know she us a kind and beautiful person. A loyal and true friend. What we don’t know is what she is dealing with. This is another dive into everyday people dealing with mental issues and insecurities. What seems simple to the average person can be so much more to the person dealing with it. OCD and all that it entails gives us a better understanding and allows empathy. Again we see how the a great support system helps someone dealing with Mental health issues. Just like Minty was there for her tribe they are there for her. She also has Lucky, who shows patience and support. Another well written story that gives you all the feels.
freaking beautiful story of trauma, resilience and HEA
Wow. I have been speechless for a couple of hours on how to review this book. Devin takes it to new and beautiful heights with each book she publishes and Mountain Road is no different.
The “mountains” that needed to be endured before Minty and Lucky could get their HEA was loaded with emotion and heartbreak. It was heartwarming and literally had tears streaming down my face.
This is an absolute must read (so are the Milltown book 1 & 2, and the Bridgewater series). As with every book Devin has written, I wish I could turn back the clock so I could read this one for the first time again!
Devin does it again with a spicy yet relatable story. Minty is a fierce woman with a debilitating disorder. Lucky is a handsome/strong man who is immediately attracted to Minty but has a young daughter and an unconventional relationship with his best friend. These two were so so sweet and yet so so hot. I learned so much while reading a beautiful story about soulmates. I could read these books over and over again. They make you feel alive.
This book is a freaking master piece and I think it’s safe to say this is Devins best one yet! It was absolutely breath taking and heart wrenching I loved it! And I loved the awareness for OCD. Devin shows a side of OCD I never knew or even been told about and I think that made Mintys and Luckys store even better. These two are definitely on my list of fave book couple.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Oh my gosh Devin Sloane has done it again!! This book had me so emotional..
Minty & Lucky are just everything & I just love their story!! It’s a must read!! All her books are!!
It’s so amazing & wonderful how Devin always writes these amazing books that also aware you about mental issues that a lot of people alway just brush aside or don’t quite understand.. she truly has a gift & I just love reading her books💕
“This book was given to me in exchange for my honest review."
This book is amazing. I absolutely love it. I felt connected to the character. I felt like I could understand what it was like. It had me wondering next. It had me with all mix of emotions. I am not women's fiction reader however Devins does it so well that I love her books. Devin did it again with yet another amazing book.
Please check the trigger as this book is not suit for all people.
Lucky was a bore. Idk how to describe it other than Devin's male characters are usually deeply complex and Lucky just felt flat to me.
Minty's mental health issues were very uncomfortable and although the book acknowledges that, I had to read several other books then come back to this one to finally complete it.
Please take note of the trigger warnings. They are there for a reason. This is not an easy unthinkable read. That is what makes it great. You will see through wonderful writing a side of life that most don't want to touch in books and what it is to love someone for ALL they are.
A phenomenal book! This one sucked me in! Never mind the insane passion and chemistry- this one is wrought with angst, humor and the best hea! The wit- the sarcasm — omgg!!!! Just loved it!
Minty and Lucky’s story was beautiful and emotional to the fullest. Struggles that Minty was facing were heartbreaking and I just wanted to jump in there and tell her that all will be ok, she will get over this. This incredible man Lucky stood by her side and helped her through it all. They both made it to their HEA with a bit of a rocky road and with love they had for each other made them the most perfect couple.
Devin’s books touch deep in your soul with her writing and I would absolutely recommend it ❤️
Oh Captain, My Captain!! First things first...pay attention to the trigger warnings...this book will not be to everyone's liking. If you're like me and trigger warnings do not matter, you are in for a treat!!
Devin Sloane has once again created a soul-searing masterpiece. It will make you laugh. It will make you ugly cry! And it will most certainly make you swoon!! #teamlucky
One of the many things I love about Devin's books is that I learned something new with each one. Through Misty's struggles with OCD, my eyes were opened to the many sub-types within the OCD spectrum that I was unaware of. To see Minty - who on the outside looking in, is the embodiment of kindness, love, and happiness - struggle with a debilitating darkness that she hides from the world for fear of judgment and abandonment, was heartbreaking. But then in walks Lucky - with his love, acceptance, and support - who rallied the troops in Minty's darkest moments, it was the most beautiful thing to witness.
All heaviness aside, Brayleigh was the most adorable little girl EVER!! "Mine Sparky!" You will fall in love with this little princess!!
If you haven't started reading Devin's Milltown series yet, I recommend going back to the beginning with Broken Road before you start this one. Just make sure you have a box of kleenex ready. You will definitely need it!!
