I love this series and i personally felt that it really stuck the landing. I was so happy to find a gay YA series that not only avoided the frustrating repetitive arc most gay YA seems to follow, but also genuinely surprised me with a funny thoughtful story. I loved getting to know these characters and I always felt that they had their own voices. The romance is not handed to you, It really feels rewarding to read how these characters come together and everything in between. I think there’s a few things to be critical of throughout the series and most of them were negligible to me. However the clunkiness of some of the dialogue and descriptors for black and brown characters was at times jarring. It felt like an attempt was made, as an after thought, but i couldn’t figure out who that was for.
Oh, I absolutely fell in love with this series! Magic, vampires, swords, devious plots and mysterious prophecies... what's not to love? The not so slow burn of enemies to forced friends to found mates between the main protagonists, Simon and Baz, in Carry On is a journey in itself. Sharp, witty dialogue and an intriguing plot kept it interesting throughout. The characters are all portrayed with their respective flaws and strengths, and play well off each other. I personally feel the series ended on a bit of a cliffhanger leaving too many open ended plots unresolved concerning Simon Snow and Baz Pitch, I do hope the author addresses these in a future installment. Other than that, this is a joyride of a series that I could revisit again and again!

You’d assume this was a simple, charming gay romance but then SURPRISES YOU with so much more. Grief, bodily autonomy, the way relationships change, the extent of loyalty, fate, and more. This series shows you what happens to the fated hero when the prophecy is over and they aren’t dead like they thought they would be. Such an interesting book, it really is super incredible.
