For a soldier on the run, trust is a game of chance.
What started as a mission to avenge her fallen troops has drawn Captain Jet Dawson further into a government conspiracy that grows more twisted at every turn.
The corruption in the department has shown its deadly edge, monsters lurk in every shadow, and every friendly face hides a possible enemy.
But more than one threat looms. The queen of the magical realm has taken notice, and she has set the timer until she storms the unseen barrier that divides the supernatural realm from the mundane world.
Finding allies now is critical, but if Jet wants to end the plot unravelling the country, she must place her trust carefully or risk losing everything.
Oblivious is the second book in the fast-paced Ghostmaker Trilogy.
Known for witty, vivid characters, Krista Walsh never has more fun than getting them into trouble and taking her time getting them out. When not writing, she can be found walking, reading, gaming, or watching a film – anything to get lost in a good story. She currently lives in Ottawa, Ontario
As I got to know Jet, Gideon and Madison in book one, I never would have thought change of some of the personalities was possible, but having to deal with all the things the author throws at them, they did because they needed to.
From the start of the book until the last page, I was swept up in everything the three of them encountered, had to overcome and had to do to make steps to find the connecting dots which would lead them to the real culprits. In the midst of searching through piles of paper, being followed and attacked, the real threat kept hidden, from them and me.
Then a shockwave rippled through me as something happened. I kept hoping for it to be cleared up in the chapters to follow… this could not be true.
I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for a review. Oblivious doesn't miss a beat, we find Jet, Gideon and Madison right where they left off at the end of Obscure. Running for their lives and doubting everything and everyone. Things will take unexpected and dramatic turns for each of our heroes. They will have to dig deep and do the best they can to figure out who can be trusted in this strange new world unfolding in front of them. They all know the disaster that awaits if they fail.
The Ghostmaker Trilogy continues with Oblivious. The story picks up right where Obscure ends with another race against time for Jet, Gideon and Madison! The more the three try to understand what is happening the more they realize they can no longer trust what they thought they knew. Even with her third eye Jet is blinded by her emotions and can't see what is right in front of her. So join Jet and her friends as they work to unravel the facts. The fate of not just Ottawa but possibly the world (on both sides of the wall) depends on their doing so. I definitely recommend this series to all who enjoy Urban Fantasy. The world building is great and the character development makes you feel like you personally know the characters. I can't wait to be able to read the conclusion to this story!
Once again, as the author, this is not a review, but I will say, honestly and whole-heartedly, I adore this series, book 2 even more than book 1 (and I love book 1).
Oblivious picks up right where Obscure (book one) leaves off and continues with the high-stakes activities of Jet, Gideon and Madison as they seek to uncover the truth about why Jet's team was set up for failure in the first book.
The book is jammed pack with action, yet really only takes place over the course of a couple of days. With so much going on, it's no wonder there is one day during which the MCs sleep most of the day! Krista's attention to detail is evident throughout the book, from the world she has built for the Supernaturals, the clues and red herrings she plants in the book, and the descriptions of the characters navigating around Ottawa. Any past and current resident of Ottawa who has spent time in Centretown will recognize the description of the building on Bank and Somerset, the walk to Old Ottawa South, as well as appreciate how the aquatic vegetation of the Rideau Canal becomes part of the Supernatural world. Also, the bureaucratic details are *chef's kiss.* The paperwork, the signatures, the stamps... can confirm they are all very real!
It's those details that start to make me wonder "Could this be real? Are there Supernaturals among us? Am I a mundane? How can I get a job at SMOAC?"
Fave quote from the book: "His cap matched mine, except that it sported the logo for the Montreal Canadiens. Habs versus Sens. A reason not even our fictional relationship would work... unless we joined together in our hatred of the Toronto Maple Leafs." It's funny because it's true. And I write that as someone who's partner is a big Leafs fan.
Really excited for the third book.
A huge thank you to the author, Krista Walsh, for sharing an ARC with me in exchange for an honest review.
This is the second book in the author's Ghostmaker trilogy. If you haven't read book 1 yet, I highly recommend you do. Not only will it tell you what's going on, it's a great read!
Before I continue... I've received all three books in the trilogy in advance in return for considering writing a review. Not only am I reviewing all of them, I bought them all, too! This is a series I know I'm going to want to read again!
Now back to my original question: Who can they trust? Jet's team? Eric? ANYONE from her team? Her boss? As the situation continues to unfold, I found myself questioning anyone and everyone who isn't Jet, Madison, or Gideon. How far down (or up?) does the conspiracy run? All these questions (and more) make this a really fun read.
I laughed, I cried, I worried, I swore, I cheered, I questioned, I questioned my questions, I studied Canadian geography (my American education included zero Canadian geography), I worried and swore some more...
When I reached the end of the book I couldn't wait for the finale! Good thing the author is releasing all three books in a short amount of time!
I completed completed an advance read of “Oblivious: Ghostmaker Book 2.” My first thoughts can be summed up in one word: WOW! Wow, in the best way.
Jet, Gideon, and Madison are back, and they do not disappoint. This is another action pack novel. There are some powerful scenes with Jet and Gideon. And there are some emotionally gripping moments for the readers.
The ending of “Oblivious” is satisfying, yet it leaves the reader wanting more...
I had the pleasure to read an ARC copy of Ghostmaker: Ovlivious, last week, and the level of story intensity and danger continues to build ahead of book 3.
Do yourself a favour and order the book before its’ release on July 29, 2022.
Each of the three main characters Jet, Gideon, and Madison find themselves increasingly isolated as they learn more about the depth and scope of the conspiracy. When Jet discovers the people, and team, she trusted and believed in her whole career are part of the conspiracy it seems like there is almost no place left to turn.
Krista builds the tension through the individual story arcs of each character during most of the book. The three characters are finally brought together during the climatic scene. Jet, Madison, and Gideon decide they only have one approach left to challenge the conspiracy which sets up what to expect at the beginning of book 3.
I am eager to see what the other side of the “wall” is like.
Oblivious is the second book in the fast-paced Ghostmaker Trilogy. Once again this author does it with the continuation of the Ghostmaker series. I loved reading this book I found it very exciting and fast paced. The story takes place in Ottawa, Canada and the fae world. Jet is on the hunt to find out who the Ghostmaker is and why her team was drastically taken out. So, along with her best friend Madison of whom is the Queen's Granddaughter and Gideon who has a special fae magic of his own and from the United States. They work together and discover things and try and figure out why. I loved reading book 2 it was super exciting and kept me on my toes. So, if you love reading about Lots of Action, Conspiracy and Magical Beings then this just might be for you.
I start the first chapter and I learn that her full name is Bridget. This is where ‘Jet’ comes from? This?
So far both books are fast paced and there’s always something happening, like by this point I kinda just want them to sit and chill and heal.
As I reached the end I’m really sad I haven’t been able to get my hands on the third book for I would dearly love to know what happens next and how it all ends.
ESPECIALLY what’s going on with Jet There are so many conspiracies and it’s a little confusing but I was in for the ride.
Strap on your safety gear, buckle up, and get ready for non-stop action! This second book in the Ghostmaker series is intense, it barely slows down, and makes it impossible to do anything other than read until you get to the end. Forget responsibilities, chores, families, work...none of them will be able to pull you out of this incredible urban fantasy. Even if you are physically away from the book, it will stay actively in your thoughts. The imagination, characters, writing, plot, twists, surprises, ambiance....all unmatched. I cannot recommend it enough, both this book and the series as a whole.
