Rate this book
In this witty, poignant narrative, a young man becomes disenchanted with his career as a market research analyst. He chooses to go back to school to become a teacher. Upon entering his South Los Angeles classroom he is thrust into the reality of inner-city life; one that he is not prepared to handle. After a multitude of massive failures, he is finally able to endear himself to his students. Upon learning about their lives and challenges he is intrinsically changed and finds himself through the lives of the students he himself was supposed to alter.

This book is very true to the teaching world and made me miss being in the classroom (if you read the book you won't believe me- but it's true!) Donovan is funny, honest, self-deprivating, and i loved reading it. I finished it in 24 hrs!

It's reassuring to realize that some people had it worse than you.
