All I know is that they’re be(e & you)tiful
even if they both can sting.

In Love & Bees, SJ Blasko's fifth collection of poetry, the poet guides us on an exploration of toxic theology, chronic pain and illness, and the toll both take on the body, all the while skillfully juxtaposing those themes with the joy of knowing who you are.

Read Through 2: This has so many fantastic poems on being kind to yourself as you're healing from spiritual/church trauma and hurts that I think more people need to hear.

Read Through 1: Another beautiful, heartfelt collection from SJ Blasko. Their work might not be technically or academically perfect, but there's always something about their poems that draws me on an emotional and spiritual level. I always find something in the pages of these books that makes me want to sit down and scribble in margins and bleed my own soul onto pages. A lovely collection of poems discussing the journey to accepting and "healing" yourself day by day both on a spiritual and emotional level and from traumas undergone through the church and through chronic illness.

This might be my favorite collection from S.J. Blasko.

I felt more so than other collections they held back nothing and poured out their heart for the reader. "Be gentle on the dreamers" resonated with me especially. But also the religious themes, which is odd, because I am not religious. The author's ability to keep their faith against adversity has long been inspiring to me. But somehow it's explained more deeply and wholly in these pages.

My favorite line:

"it’s really fucking sad that no one taught me
how to live this way
and still, for years, I did."
