This study leads in a close examination of these two epistles of Paul to the Thessalonian church he planted and loved. Each lesson s five days of questions (along with helpful comments and context) guide in a process of careful study and application of the biblical text. The shape and themes of each epistle emerge, as well as Paul s overriding focus on the second coming of Jesus as a constant lens through which to live and learn and even suffer. Paul s loving encouragement and careful teaching about holy living and working in preparation for Jesus coming can speak powerfully to Christians today.

This was a really good Bible study guide. We used it for our "fall term" women's Bible study at church, and the women really dug deep and learned a lot, and we had great discussion from it. This guide has ALL the elements I look for in a study guide: ~ Questions broken down into 5 chunks, so people can budget their time spent on them through the week ~ Uses many cross-references to both Old and New Testament passages, to clarify, expand upon, and affirm what's being taught in the passage we're studying. ~ No "chatty" paragraphs with personal anecdotes, etc., that are often a part of women's Bible study guides. It's meaty, not fluffy! ~ Questions that help us assess the context, what's being said, interpreting the text, and then applying it. ~ Connecting the passage we are looking at with what's come before. ~ An opportunity to write Summary statements and prayers at the close of each lesson, as a way to process what you've learned and interact with God about it. Two small complaints: Sometimes she asked multiple questions in one question, which made it a little more complicated to isolate each question being asked. And there were a handful of questions that were hard to understand - although, honestly, they still lead to good group discussion! I highly recommend this study series, based on going through this one. I certainly would consider using another study in Nelson's series in the future.
If you ever have a chance to do one of Kathleen’s Bible studies I would highly, highly recommend it. I have such a deep understanding of 1 & 2 Thessalonians now and I am so grateful for that knowledge. I have a group of friends that I did this study with, and that definitely helped to have others to work through the questions with.
I don't have a theological problem with the author, but the book just had poor questions. It was very hard to figure out what she was asking and I often felt like she was just reaching too far to add pages to the book. Not bad, just not "good" either.
10 lessons (with 5 daily homework assignments for each lesson) will have you digging into God's Word and discovering new riches on your own. The questions don't require Bible knowledge to answer. The author is an English professor and asks questions based on the nouns and verbs and adjectives and how one sentence connects to the next and the next and the next. Ten weeks later, especially if you combine your personal study with a weekly small group study, you will KNOW 1 & 2 Thessalonians in a new, deep, and personal way.
A tough study to get through mainly because it's written by an English teacher, so the questions are very academic. The subject matter was great though, and I've never enjoyed a study more.
excellent bible study done with friends. No fluff with this bible study. Ms. Nielson has you digging into the Word and wrestling with the content. highly recommend!
