This collection of pulpish pastiches were rather more enjoyable compared to the previous outing.
1. I.A Watson'r 'The Adventure of the Frozen Irregular' occupies more than half of the book. It's a sprawling and chilling tale, encompassing the history and geography of London, diplomatic shenanigans of Diogenes Club, hidden treasure and murder! The story had enough action and shoot-out to make a hardboiled story come alive. Holmes and Watson carried themselves with utmost distinction in this tale.
2. David Friend's 'The Ghost of Otis Maunder': Was the author playing a joke on us? Perhaps. It was a fast and light read, in any case.
3. Raymond Louis James Lovato's 'The Case of the Singular Tragedy': This was a turbo-charged story of violence, where nobody gave any quarters and Holmes showed what he can do to avenge his friends. Enjoyed it immensely.
4. David Friend's 'The Adventure of the Apologetic Assassin': This was definitely a joke. Nevertheless, after such a grim and bare-knuckle story, this one appeared to be just desserts, so as to say.
Recommended.
