It’s unfair that Akira is still so cute after seven volumes, my weak heart can’t deal with this anymore

It’s a new school year and Akira and Ran are sad to discover that they are not in the same class anymore. As expected, the two of them don’t see each other as much as they used to, and therefore some kind of distance is created. And of course, that is where a new guy is introduced.

Megumu Ichigaya, a first-year, is a new member of Ran’s club, and he actually knows Akira. The two of them used to run into each other a lot back in the days. I was a little bit skeptical at first when he was introduced because he is a rival and boy, we are tired of that! The character is similar to Akira on purpose, both of them have similar backgrounds, Akira is the son of a florist while Megumu is the son of a farmer who grows flowers, and they have easygoing personalities. Megumu is in the same situation as Akira was at the beginning of the series. I ended up giving Megumu a chance and I liked him at first because he was acting more like an annoying little brother rather than a serious rival, but as the volume unfolds, I just couldn’t, and I just hated him as I reached the end of the volume. I don’t think it was necessary for the story to add yet another rival.

As usual, I’m going to praise Akira again (and I will until the day I die), but he deserves it. I’m so glad that Akira always says to Ran what is on his mind rather than hide how he feels. He doesn’t get jealous or angry over nothing. He wants to protect his girl even though she can protect herself.

2020 Read #348

Well, a rival appears, and he is actually quite the comic relief that was lacking from this series. The main draw for me is the romance, though, and this volume did hold some good progress in that regard. I hope this will continue to be a sweet and refreshing series to read. Also — I need a print release!!

Why can't people just leave Ran and Akira alone :')))) I JUST WANT MY BABIES TO BE HAPPY

So in this volume, we get another new character, Ichigaya, who ends up joining the gardening club and has a crush on Ran. Since Ran and Akira are now in different classes, they can't be together all the time. I honestly quite liked Ichigaya at first because he seems pretty cute and I find him funny at times.

But boy did dirty to Ran by trying to kiss Ran after Ran rejected him THAT'S SEXUAL HARASSMENT I WANT TO BURN HIM. And the fact that he was not even guilty about it when Akira confronted him for it, but instead blaming Akira on something else entirely? I'm just speechless, I hope he stays far away from Ran 💀💀💀 I hate boys like him to my bone. If someone says no, it's a no, folks.

The good thing that I love about this volume is that Akira just gets sweeter and gentler to Ran 🥺 MY HEART 💖💖💖 The scene where they made the flower crowns are just super precious, and I'm really happy that they decided to try being honest to each other all the time. This is probably one of the healthiest relationships in a shoujo manga I've ever read! They're both just so wholesome 💗💗💗

And can we also talk about the bonus chapter with Akira's backstory, how he started talking to Ran? It's so cute bye I love them both so much 😭💖💖💖

Impressive work - it’s not many shojo manga series that finally get the leads together and then become MORE interesting than they were previously.

Everything pops in this volume. It’s genuinely funny, the romance is really well done, and the art feels like it’s better than ever. People have rarely been hit in the face with books so well.

Ran and Akari have a ton of sweet moments together (the one on the grass is particularly adorable) and, wonder of wonders, they communicate. They solve their problems by talking rather than letting anything fester and it puts the focus on their actual chemistry where it belongs. There’s never a point where you wonder what they see in one another; it’s right on the page where it should be.

I thought I was going to smack this volume down for the appearance of The Rival (tm), especially when he oversteps with Ran in a major way. However, the way she handles that situation made we want to cheer - it was SO good and the sort of thing more manga need. He adds enough punch to things that he’s tolerable.

So, pleasant surprise of the week on this one. Definitely a major step up after a couple boring volumes and I’m now really looking forward to the next book.

Things don’t look so good

Ugh things definitely did not end well for Akira-kun and Megumo-kun. And Ran’s in the middle of their spat. Seems like Megumo has been repressing his past hurt feelings for too long and has yet to come to terms with them and Akira. Besides that burst of anger, this manga still reads like a breath of fresh air.

Finally a love rival that I can straightforwardly dislike and a female lead that actually defended herself!
I’m glad that it all happened in a lowkey manner too, the dude is not really terrible and Ran didn’t suddenly beat the living daylights out of him.

Glad there’s no second lead syndrome to be acquired from a bratty kid ✨

I love the self defense scen, it's one if the best ones in the entire series. Even if Ren at times appears weak I really like that the author didn't let the second lead be able to exploit that for his own ends. Both Ren and Akira are very clear about their relationship and I think that is so cute.

Seriously just steal my darn heart. There is a new character who has a crush on Ran but it is not really a romantic rival so it’s better. I did laugh a few times as he is so over the top but damn if these two are just still so cute and communicative. I just can’t!!!
