When resistance members are slain in mysterious ritual sacrifices, Ann and Ceara are asked to help. When the only Council member sympathetic to the resistance goes missing, even Ann knows this is something she can’t ignore.
The ritual killings aren’t the only problem on their plate. Ceara has been targeted, but by who—or what—she isn’t sure. She suffers blackouts and a voice in her head accuses her of being the murderer. Even she starts to believe it—until she realizes she’s fighting for her life against the real killer.
And it’s a losing battle.
There’s a dark entity slowly invading her body. It’s draining her more every day even as new victims are claimed by an enemy who is only growing in power.
She can’t keep this up forever.
Time is running out. The killer must be found soon or Ceara will be added to the list of victims—and if the killer wins, no one in the Five Lands will be safe.
This one continues right where the last book left off, so definitely start at the beginning of the series to get the full story.
More magical adventures with Ann, Ed, Jax, and Ceara. This one felt more like a side quest book, but still entertaining and fun. There’s a murderer on the loose and killing resistance members, and Ann is still trying to find information about who her mom is. Lot more with Ceara and her POV; she’s having some major issues in this book, so she’s dealing with some tough stuff and isn’t doing well at asking for help. I was a bit disappointed that she didn’t choose honesty at times. Evil power group, Crimson, is still trying to take Ann out and causing major problems. Ann still kicks butt, but she felt a bit weaker in this book to me; maybe since she can’t survive death anymore. I wish there was more of Ed’s beast; kind of missing those days when his beast was so protective of Ann. He’s still great; I just wanted more of Ann and him. Overall, still loving this series. Cool action and danger! 2 books left!

ONE MIND BLOWING ADVENTURE!!! Holy hell! Tiffany is kicking ass and taking names with this engaging installment that captivates from the start, riding the rails, barely hanging on, thrusting this baby to life spectacularly. Throwing caution to the wind, your back against the wall, not knowing friend from foe. Drama, intrigue, distress, turmoil, danger, suspense and dark nefarious intentions blast this baby into the eye of the storm, breaking it down, catapulting it into a tailspin with staggering impacts. Producing well rounded scenario's so intense you feel the pulse racing, electrifying hum running rampant through your viens. Tiffany displays every scheme, close call, snag, trip, dip, mishap and mayhem calling the shots, constantly moving forward, leveling the field, propelling this gem to a whole new level. The characters are complex and authentic with depth and qualities that add just enough flaws for diversity. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and colorful descriptions so rich and lively, they blend and flow magnificently. Remarkable job Tiffany, thanks for sharing this jewel with us.
After reading this book, I wanted to write and post this review to share my honest experiences toward the story.
This story was one incredible adventure, and such a joy to read! With our loveable gang of characters and well-set world, we are introduced to an element of mystery, one that shakes the core of everything Ann and company have been fighting for. It was a very interesting and engaging read, my favourite of the series so far.
As well as investigating a chain of serial murders, we also get a focus on Ceara. With Ceara being presented as a villain in book 1 and then changing sides to join the protagonists, it was interesting to learn more about her character herself and her inner conflicts. And all this is while a deeply complex murder investigation is taking place, and further development of characters and bonds are taking place. The author is really a gifted storyteller, and I am looking forward to how the series continues.
So we continue Ann's journey of trying to free the everyone from the Crimson Alliance. So Ed, Jax, Ceara and Ann are going to where the resistance is located at. Unfortunately they come across some deaths in their way. These deaths are people with the resistance. So now they are trying to figure out who is causing all this. In the meantime something is going on with Ceara. Hmm, is she cause of all this? Also Ann is wanting to find out who her mother is. She still trying to get answers of what her father was up to. What about her relationship with Ed? do they find who is killing off the resistance? So much mystery and intriguing. This is a great series to read.
When the resistance asked for their help Ann and her friends discovered more deception, lies and betrayal. Still searching for the truth about her mother, strange murders to investigate and the alliances hanging by a thread, anything could happen. Ceara’s predicament was interesting, mysterious and dark. I think she should have trusted her brothers to help her. Too much distrust and every time things were more complicated. The plot development kept me intrigued because I had no idea who was behind the murders and why. Ann had her hands full and still with enemies to face. Action, suspense, danger, lies, mystery, dark forces and secrets yet to reveal. An interesting, intriguing and complex story that I enjoyed.
This book was a captivating and thrilling read. From page 1 it hooks you into the story, and the ending leaves you begging for more. A solid five stars for sure.
We continue to follow Ann and her rouges, however we also get some insight into the resistance that's been mentioned previously in the story. Ann is tasked with finding who is killing resistance members, and that in itself was full of plot twists.
We also get a lot more backstory of Ceara. We learn a bit about her childhood, as well as her time serving Orla. She's always been a favourite character of mine, and it was really nice to delve into her character a bit more.
Overall, this is a solid continuation of an epic world Tiffany has created, and I am eager to continue this journey with Ann and her rouges!
The intrigue gets better with each adventure Ann, Ed and the rogues go on. Trouble seems to find the small family wherever they go. I love the dynamic between the characters. These books also teach that not all families are blood but are heart. The fun banter between Ed, Jax and their sister Ceara lightens the mood at just the right times. These books are so much fun to read and you find yourself part of the resistance and pulling for that good beats evil outcome we all love.

I love Ann and Ed and their band of misfits. These books just get better and better. The action and adventure steps up a notch with each book Tiffany Shand writes and this one is no different. So much intrigue! Love this series.
I have so enjoyed this series, and this book is no exception. As we continue Ann’s somewhat torturous journey, the mysteries seem to grow more intense and dark, making this a gripping read. There's even an issue going on with Ceara that complicates matters. This book has themes of death, destruction, betrayal, and lies. It is a page-turner that is hard to put down, as one event makes you wonder what will possibly happen next. I like it when that happens in a book. I highly recommend this series and this book in particular.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Tiffany Shand’s Dark Deception (Rogues of Magic, Book 5) is a truly tremendous addition to this series. Read the publisher’s blurb to get a great sense of what’s going on here (in a non-spoilery way). The odds against Ann and Ceara start bad and get tougher and tougher as time goes on, and how this is all dealt with makes for incredible stuff in this really extraordinarily well written novel. I read this book nonstop. I simply could not put it down. Total reading pleasure and now I’m suffering withdrawal that the story is over. I may just need to do a re-read. In the meantime, you guessed it: definitely recommended.
Another great story about Ann and her friends and their fight against Crimson. Ann, Ed, Jax, and Ceara must find a killer. Someone is killing resistance members in a ritualistic way. Could it be Ceara? Is she possessed? She is blacking out and hearing voices in her head. And Ann’s hunt to find out who her mother is is going nowhere. Some of the people she asks seem to know more than what they are telling her. But why is everyone so intent on keeping it a secret? And what about the old seer Domnu? She keeps turning up with cryptic messages for Ann and her friends.
Another great addition to this series. Plenty of action, mystery, danger and suspense with some great unexpected twists. I was hooked from the very beginning. Ann and her band of rogues have been asked for help with the death of resistance members. While Ann continues to look for information of her mother and hunt for the killer, Ceara’s innocence is questioned. The truth can be deceiving when the enemy wears different faces, so secrets must cease if they hope to find the culprit. This amazing read is a real page-turner that you do not want to miss.
As the series progresses, Ann's journeys become more and more dangerous, the storyline darker, the twists and turns more and more mindblowing. Not much I can say, than this is an extremely well written book, and excellent addition to the series, and if you haven't read any of the previous books do yourself a favor: grab the whole series and binge read it. You won't be disappointed. Myself? I can't wait for the next book!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The rogues are investigating the murders of resistance members while Ann tries to find tge identity of her mother. And why is Ceara acting so weird?
I had the main villain of the book figured out quite early and spent a good amount of time yelling at the characters for missing something so obvious. However, the last few chapters added more information that I had missed and the ending, once again, has me reaching for the sequel.
Members of the resistance are being ritually killed, and the runes are indecipherable to Anna and her friends. As they search for answers, she is also searching for information on her mother. Will she find her answers or only dark magic, murder, possession, and betrayal
