For a debut novel, this was decent - good, even, I'd say! I enjoyed reading about Naz and Jordan's story and I really liked the south asian representation. I cannot tell you how seen I felt because of the FMC. It's the little things that Bal has so accurately managed to capture about Indian culture and that's the part I probably loved the most. However, there are some things that really frustrated me. Like the constant immaturity of both characters, the unwillingness to communicate, drama - you name it! It wasn't bad but it really irritated me, ya know? Like, I don't have the time or patience for that shit lol. With that being said, I can't wait to read more of this author's work!

this book was CHEFS kiss, and i devoured it from start to finish. enemies to lovers, workplace romance, fake dating and women in stem?? sign me up. and this was her debut novel too, like wow, it was amazing.
every single character was so likable and i LOVED the POC representation🥹 Naz and Jordan are both from different cultures so i really enjoyed it. both of their families were so fun to read about especially Naz’s family. as a desi girl, it made me so happy to see how accurate it was.

Naz and Jordan are THE power couple. and their banter?? PERFECT. some of their interactions were so funny because they’re both so stubborn😭but they compliment each other so well.
Naz is an independent woman who is also a software engineer, purr💅🏼 and Jordan was so sweet and caring omg🥹 i love when they comfort each other and this book had TONS of it. on top of that he always reminds her that it’s okay to let someone take care of her and constantly reassures her. and the things he does for her—ugh my heart. i luv them.
i hate that i put this book off for so long but I’m glad that i finally got to it. if you’re looking for something light and not too emotional this is the book for you. i cant wait to read more of her work💛

I have to say this book exceeded my expectations. I really loved it!
I laughed a lot, even cried a little.
I immediately fell in love with Naz and obviously Jordan, but Naz's family was my favorite, especially her mother!
Also as Naz mentioned, even if it's a strange feeling, it's a good feeling being taken care of.
I really appreciated that Naz and Jordanwere both from different cultures, which I really like to read about (Even if we only get to know more about Naz's culture)
I really recommend this book if you are in a reading slump, because it's easy to read and not boring at all.
And when I tell you, once you started it, it's a one seating read!

мене відразу поглинула книжка – іскри літали між героями з перших зустрічей. тут тільки сліпий не побачить, яка між ними хімія й напруга – у кожному погляді, у кожному дотику. якби ж тільки Наз трохи довше думала, перш ніж говорити, а Джордан – більше говорив і менше вигадував, чого вона хоче. ну, можна ж просто спитати, правда? ні, не їхній варіант.
тим не менш мені сподобалося. і як тут гарно вписався троп «фіктивні стосунки», а моменти з їхніми родинами - чудові.

I loved this for all the diversity but this was just an ok read for me. The writing was choppy and felt like I was being told more than being shown. There were these time jumps of the week that were just written weirdly and even though I loved our couple together, I don't really understand why they are so into each other because of the lack of showing. Despite this, I do think the author has potential and I could see myself reading another book by her for the diversity alone (which was my favorite part of this book <3)

OMG i'm obsessed with the tropes!! fake dating, enemies to lovers, neighbor and work place romance?? sign me up
Naz is a strong, independent and very admirable young woman. Her past has not been easy at all. Already at the age of 18, she had to endure a manipulation from her first love, which took full advantage of her life and her realationship with her parents. Nevertheless, after a few years and ending the toxic relationship, she stands on her own two feet and tries to do her best to make up for her past.
Also an important Information about Naz is, that she is a talented app programmer who finally found success and moved at the age of 24 from Vancouver to New York to live her dream and to be closer to her best friend Linh.
Jordan is hot, carring, coincidentally her neighbor, later happens to be also her boss AND her fake boyfriend. Adding to this, Jordan is a very attractive and hard working man, despite his passion for his work, he never neglects his family, which is such an important character trait of his.
Seeing both characters slowly build up a tension right from the start was eclectrifying. Also witnessing the process of Jordan becoming softer and gentler towards Naz and Turnier slowly away from his hard attitude was just too sweet. Let me tell you one thing, I have no doubt at all that Jordan would do anything for Naz no matter what she is asking for or what she needs.

I had high expectations for this book, but honestly it wasn't the best and was alright.
I liked reading about their journey and how their relationship developed. I loved the MMC Jordan. He was a grump but he is adorable and very family-orientated. He adores his family so much. The dancing scene was really cute.
My problem lies with the FMC Naz, I couldn't connect to her character which lead to me not connecting to the couple and not enjoying the book. I found her annoying
and very selfish. She was in her own bubble most of the time and wasn't considering others feelings especially Jordans. She was so hung up on her ex and it got really repetitive. If you can't get over someone don't use someone else and hurt their feelings because you can't decide what you want to do. It frustrated me so much and then when she broke Jordan's heart, I wanted to see her grovel.
To make it worse the epilogue made the book fall flat even more. It was the only crumbs we got in Jordan's pov and it just yeah... It ended just as he was aboutto propose and I was so annoyed because I wanted to read about the proposal. TikTok definitely overhyped this book.

I love this book. I hope it will reach more people who loves sweet lovely romance books.
It's actually a 4.5/5 for me. I really really missed not having the point of view of Jordan. Because of this book I have made my conclusion : Black fictional men are my favorite. Every one I read until now are just like Jordan: genuine, lovely, caring, and feel real! I really wish it was dual pov but for a first book I won't ask her to complicate things!

Based on this promising debut, I definitely want to read more from this author. I had a really fun time with this, and thought the writing was good. I do think the MC's backstory was pretty unclear for the most part, and I wished at times that she would just TALK to the love interest. But overall I had a good time and would love to pick up Collide at some point.

Honestly I downloaded this on whim after seeing it on tiktok and honestly it was such a good read. It was such a fun read with lovely family dynamics and two gorgeous leads with sooo much tension.
Sarvenaz (that is a stunning name that I’ve not heard of) has moved to the big Apple after landing what seems to be a great job, she’s trying to heal from what her past relationship has done to her. Enter Jordan…. Six foot plus, suited and booted. Jordan is hot and caring but also happens to be her boss and neighbour.
I wouldn’t say it’s completely enemy to lovers but they do get off on the wrong foot but god you could cut the tension with a knife.
I loved the scene with Naz in her sari and Jordan accompanying her and he just couldn’t take his eyes off her…swoooon.
Jordan being understanding to Naz as a woman of colour in the workplace and Jordan being a successful black man that still has to push harder to not fall behind. Honestly such a fun read.

I wanted to go with 3 stars initially, changed it to 2 after a bit of thinking.
I enjoyed the representation of the book, getting a glimpse into a culture I never really find books about.
I was really into the story and characters in the beginning let's say until halfway through. Then it just dragged on too long and unnecessarily.
Additionally, I was confused at all of the random time jumps, where just 1 sentence summed up what happened in the missed time.
The communication aspect between the main leads was very annoying. We all know by now what a character means when they say "I don't want to be friends with you". But like, who would EVER say taht without any other explanation if at all? That just makes for stupid misunderstandings that have no room for romance these days (in my humble opinion).
Sometimes it also felt like the author didn't realize it wasn't specified who was actually talking. In one scene I understood who it was but in another I had no clue. There would be a lot of talking and then a "he said" or "she said" which made me question who was speaking. It was a bit annoying to either think about who might be talking or having to re read a page 2 to 3 times to figure out if I simply can't read or if it the mentioning was forgotten altogether. This might be due to it being a debut novel, however, it is something that annoys me when I pay for a book, never mind it being the first or tenth one.

This was a really cute book, Bal did a good job with her debut novel.
A code for love is about Sarvenaz who leaves her parents in Canada and moves to New York to start a new job and get away from her past. At her new apartment in new york, she meets a man in grey sweats who she dislikes at first but ends up working for grey sweats aka Jordan.
Some things i liked about this book was the representation, I felt seen by the depiction of immigrant parents and culture. I also liked how normal the romance build-up was, it wasn't anything crazy but just a sweet and simple romance story.
Some other thoughts I had when reading this was how low-stakes the issues in the book were, I didn't think that there were any serious conflicts and even how Jordan and Naz got together was kinda anti-climatic. I still really like them, at first I also didnt think the book was that spicy but when I got to a particular chapter I realized that i was wrong lol.

AHHHH I was privileged enough to get the ARC!!! CAN WE GIVE A ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR POC REPRESENTATION, CULTURE, SEXY FLESHED OUT CHARACTERS??!!?! I knew enemies to lovers had me by the throat, BUT THIS!!! 100% VALIDATED, CONFIRMATION, TOOK ME OUT!!! I can't wait until y'all meet Jordan Evans, so I don't have to scream into the void, I'll be screaming with EVERYONE!!! CAUSE AHHHHHHHHH I DONT WANNA SPOIL BUT WHEN HE... THATS IT HE JUS NEEDS TO EXIST FOR ME TO MELT, Y'ALL WILL FIND OUT AHHHHHH!!!! I love the friendships, and platonic bonds written too!!! This had my heart pounding from front to back! I am so sad it took me so long to finish this book because of school. I knew I was gonna devour it when I first started.

September 7, 2023I'm trying now to give rom coms with characters that are annoying at the start, or have writing and dialogue that reads as too obvious, a bit of a chance, because I DNFd The Devil You Know and I'm now on my third reread in probably two months max. But I'm not really enjoying any of this- I don't care what trauma you've gone through or how abusive your ex is- no one with a modicum of intelligence falls for as obvious a scam as Sarvenaz did.

If you’re looking for a cute romance, this is the book to pick.
I’m absolutely in love with this story and the characters. They’re so adorable.
It is a bit insta love for me and very predictable, but I still had such a great time reading this.

first I loved that she was a desi girl, loved the male lead was a person of colour as well! Then I found out she is Canadian. Jordan has become my new favourite book boyfriend.
However, some issues with the book - there was too many almost kiss movement that it become kind of repetitive. As well, I feel like we see Jordan struggle with not wanting to pursue her but then that no longer played a factor suddenly.
My biggest issue is that Jordan is too perfect, he didn’t have any flaws and was too good everything.
But I still enjoyed the book, and it was good especially since this is her first book. I look forward to more stories from this author

absolutely obsessed with them
there were a few things which i thought could be better but for a debut novel?? THIS BOOK IS PHENOMENAL!! the fmc was written soo well, tho i do wish we could have gotten more insight into Jordan's character! ALSO THE DESI REP WAS *chef's kiss* i approve
