This book flew in on the back of a storm and tore my entire being asunder because THIS was EVERYTHING!!

The whimsical adventure and charm of the first 'Rainbow Grey' adventure is back tenfold in the follow-up, complete with an action-packed plot line and some heart-wrenching moments! Seriously, this will both pull at your heartstrings and make you want to die with cuteness at THOSE CLOUD CREATURES OMG THEY'RE SO CUTE!!!

The illustrations are insanely amazing yet again and they really illustrate just how gorgeous and imaginative this world is. An absolute joy of a book that develops the characters we know and love from the first book, and continues to solidify why Rainbow Grey is going to be a heroine for the ages, alongside Alice, Matilda and Mildred Hubble.

Wheyyy I finally got round to this one. Hopefully I won't take so long to get to the next one. Loved seeing Gavin again. And the ending was so unexpectedly sad.

More uneven than the first book. I think the author had to rush it out pretty quick.

My kid was still really into it, and the idea of the cloud city and the cloud animals is still good.

That said, the kinda random sad ending made my kid cry, and I’m not sure the main twists were particularly justified.

Ray Grey is back! This time mysterious missing cloud creatures, strange eyes, and more!


The newest book from Laura Ellen Anderson, and it took me a bit to read (got the book end of March and it took me till the mid of June before I started reading) but here we are! As soon as I started I couldn’t stop. It was just that well-written.

In this book we see Ray trying to learn more Rainbow Magic, figure out how things work, and also find some peace and quiet. Well, girl, you are not going to find that the next weeks. Because things are quickly going weird. First during a ceremony where babies get their cloud creatures, the cloud creatures disappear. Next things are going wonky. There are glowing eyes everywhere. And there is a lot more that is happening. Really, there was so much things going on and I just HAD to know what was up. I loved how things got more more hectic as the story went on. I do think it was quite strange that this world relies so much on their cloud creatures. I get that is where they get their magic.. but it also makes for an easy thing to target if you want to destroy the world. A bit too easy if I think about it. I was curious if it was Tornadia and what would be next. Would Ray be able to defeat Tornadia? What will the consequences be?

I love that Ray had such wonderful friends and that they never gave up on her, kept on believing her. They were wonderful. Though Droplett should learn not to splash everyone, I just felt for their other friend and his constant soggy (almost want to put a GIF from Mary Berry here) sandwich. I did love that competition she was captain of though, that seems like such a cool thing to do and I wish I had weather magic!

I was just so pissed at everyone everywhere and how they treated Ray. Like she was a bad person. Yes, she has rainbow magic, but instead of being accepting that she has a lot to learn you clearly expect her to do it all perfectly in one go + you keep distrusting her (which is also not helping someone). I just wanted to yeet some snowballs to these people. To make them cool down and think. This is a child. She is trying. She saved your asses last time as well. Be kind. Be nice. Support her in every way you can. 😐

I do love (OK, maybe it is also a dash sad) that when a rainbow person goes bad/her magic is drained that their hair goes monochrome. Tornadia looked like a very funky Cruella de Vil.

But did you have to do that ending, writer? I was just crying, so so much. I mean, I had a suspicion when Ray came back (though I wish she could have stayed just a bit longer because WOW)… but I didn’t think we would truly go there. Not many children’s books do that, so I was pretty shocked and then kept crying. How dare you! shakes fist and cries some more

All in all, this was one heck of a ride. I loved every bit of it and I just couldn’t stop reading. Magic, friendship, excitement, scary moments, and more! I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

Sometimes you just need a blast of fun and the Rainbow Grey series is completely perfect for that!

This is the second book in the series and I had an absolute ball following Ray and her friends as they try to work out why the clouds are vanishing.

This series has so much to say about friendship, love and being yourself, it made me cry at the end (in front of the kids at work! 😂) and I can’t wait for the third instalment!

It was so lovely being back with Ray and her friends! When things start going wrong and an old evil lurks, it’s up to Ray to help. She has to use all that she knows she is and the love surrounding her to help. I loved this: just so full of light and hope. Ray is such a lush character and the illustrations are just incredible! I think I could read Laura’s books all day - they bring me such joy!

Ria Regenbogen ist ein wunderbarer Charakter. Nachdem ich das erste Buch der Reihe gelesen hatte, war ich mir sicher, dass das zweite genauso toll sein würde. Beginnen möchte ich mit dem unglaublichen Cover, das selbst den zögerlichsten Leser ins Buch lockt. Die Geschichte macht Spaß und ist interessant zu verfolgen, und ich denke, es ist das perfekte Buch für Kinder, die gerade anfangen zu lesen. Meine Tochter ist fast sieben und hatte eine Menge Spaß damit.

Meine Meinung:

Die Geschichte ist in einem tadellosen Stil geschrieben und bietet eine magische Einführung ins Lesen. Ria Regenbogen ist eine Figur, zu der sich Kinder leicht hingezogen fühlen, vor allem weil sie über magische Wetterkräfte verfügt. Mir hat gefallen, dass sie Fehler macht, da sie noch nicht alle ihre neuen Kräfte beherrscht. Das ist eine wichtige Lektion, die Kinder lernen sollten. Es ist in Ordnung, Fehler zu machen, und wir lernen oft mehr aus Fehlern als aus Erfolgen. Das Element des Geheimnisses ist definitiv vorhanden und Ria muss gegen die dunkle Magie kämpfen, um alle Wolkenwesen zu finden.

Das Buch ist herzerwärmend und voller Magie, eine fantastische Fortsetzung des ersten Buches. Meine Tochter hat es geliebt, diese Geschichte zu lesen, denn sie ist jetzt in einem Alter, in dem Magie eine große Rolle spielt. Nim, die Wolkenkatze, ist definitiv ihr Liebling. Ich finde, dass Bücher wie dieses Kinder dazu einladen, in die Welt der Fantasie einzutauchen und der Realität zu entfliehen. Die Autorin ist auch eine fantastiche Illustratorin, sie hat eine fantastische Arbeit geleistet. Die Zeichnungen sind wunderschön und erwecken diese wunderbare Geschichte zum Leben. Wir haben sie absolut geliebt.

Ich fand es toll, wie sich die Spannung langsam aufbaute. Alle Wolkenkreaturen verschwinden, auch die geliebte Wolkenkatze Nim. Ria Regenbogen muss den Mut finden, das Geheimnis zu lösen und alle zu finden. Sie wird sich der dunklen Magie stellen, aber was wird am Ende passieren? Keine Spoiler für dich, du musst das Buch lesen, um herauszufinden, was passiert. Ich kann nur sagen, dass dies eine wunderbare Geschichte ist, an der dein Kind großen Spaß haben wird. Ich muss zugeben, dass die Geschichte auch für mein inneres Kind perfekt war. Ich habe sie absolut geliebt.

Zusammenfassung:

Das war eine tolle Geschichte, die mir genauso viel Spaß gemacht hat wie meiner Tochter. Die Geschichte zeichnet sich durch einen brillanten Charakter aus, der uns schon im ersten Buch ans Herz gewachsen ist. Sie enthält auch genug Geheimnisse, um das Interesse der Leserinnen und Leser zu wecken, und ich habe das Gefühl, dass selbst die zögerlichsten Leserinnen und Leser sie lieben werden. Die Zeichnungen sind super niedlich, und wir sind ganz verliebt in Nim. Meine Tochter stellt sich vor, dass sie jetzt ihre eigene Wolkenkatze hat. Jetzt sind wir gespannt auf das dritte Buch der Reihe! Sehr empfehlenswert von unserer Seite!

‘Rainbow Grey: Eye of the Storm’ is Book 2 in Laura Ellen Anderson’s charming children’s fantasy about the adventures of Ray Rainbow Grey, who lives in the Weatherlands as part of a community of beings that control the weather.

While aimed at readers aged 7-10 years, I feel that Anderson’s books will appeal to young at heart readers of all ages. Since discovering her Amelia Fang series, I have combined the ebooks with the unabridged audiobook editions as I love her quirky art work as well as her storytelling skills.

I appreciated Beth Easdown’s narration as she utilises her vocal skills to portray a wide range of characters. In addition, her comic timing is excellent.

Book 1 covers the origin story of Rainbow Grey and in ‘Eye of the Storm’ she is settling into Sky Academy with the other young Weatherlings. Then mysterious events begin to occur, including the disappearance of a number of personal cloud-creatures.

Young Weatherlings are bonded to a cloud -creature that emerge from Puff Pods. These become their lifelong companions. Rainbow’s is Nim, the delightful cat cloud while her Dad has a whale-shaped cloud named Waldo.

Before too long Agent Nephia, head of the Bureau of Unexplained Meteorological Sightings (B.U.M.S. 😹), arrives to investigate. No further details to avoid spoilers.

Overall, this was lots of fun and also provided a new, playful perspective on the weather that I am sure will delight young readers.

A sequel to Rainbow Grey to match the brilliance of the first book was a tall order, but Laura Ellen Anderson manages to expertly weave some Weatherling magic to make familiar characters like Ray, Snowden, Nim, and Droplett even more lovable and relatable. Even new characters, like Aunt Foggaleena and Nephia Weatherwart, are filled with personality that elicit strong emotions from the reader. Along with a highly engaging storyline, Eye of the Storm, like its predecessor Rainbow Grey, is chock-full of delightfully whimsical illustrations to engage the reader’s eye and imagination. As for this reader and her daughter, we can’t get enough of the turbulent twists in Ray Grey’s adventure to become an accomplished Weatherling. Bring on the storms, Laura Ellen Anderson, because we are definitely ready for the next deluge!

Ces illustrations, je ne m’en lasse pas ! Elles rendent la lecture si agréable. Le roman est toujours aussi cocooning, même si ce tome 2 m’a semblé avoir de plus grands enjeux que le tome 1. C’était plus intense en termes d’intrigue. Ray est courageuse malgré l’adversité et les préjugés auxquels elle doit faire face. Et cette fin, trop émouvant ✨Best lecture jeunesse illustrée ! Une petite citation sympa : « Being different isn’t such a bad thing. Always be you » 🥰🥰🥰🌈✨

It was Fab to be back with Ray and all her friends again in The Weatherlands. When things start going wrong and an old evil lurks it’s up to Ray and her Friends to try and help. She needs to use everything she knows and rely on her trusted friends to help her out.

A sequel to Rainbow Grey to match the brilliance of the first book was a tall order, but Laura Ellen Anderson manages this expertly. Much like the first book this chock-full of delightfully whimsical illustrations to engage the reader’s eye and imagination and to help bring the story to life in a completely unique way and the illustrations are just incredible

Absolutely loved this book even more than the first book in the series.
The storyline was amazing, the characters were brilliant and with Gusty Gavin being who he is with the whole forbidden book scene and Miss Mist was brilliant and I could picture Gav’s face a treat in this situation.
This book made me laugh out loud with the fog goblins and with the presence of farts you can always muster a giggle.
Gorgeous illustrations by the beautiful Laura throughout the book. I cannot wait for the next book but am saddened it will be last in this series.

Definitely excited to see what Laura brings to the book world next. Highly recommend

There's nothing I've read by Laura Ellen Anderson that I didn't enjoy, and this book is no exception. Rainbow Grey is full of brilliantly fun and original characters. Friendship and perseverance are big themes, and I appreciate the inclusion of Ray's difficulty with reading which brings some dyslexia representation to the table. My 7 year old loves this series and we can't wait for the third installment! 🌈

I really like Rainbow Grey and I’m so happy she’s back in this whimsical adventure. Laura Ellen Anderson is fast becoming one of my favourite middle grade authors. Her writing is fun and uplifting but she also knows how to tug the heart strings. The illustrations only add to the cuteness of this book. I love the play on words throughout, turning everything weather related in such an imaginative way. Definitely a must read and I cannot wait for the next instalment.

Another exciting adventure for Ray and her friends , looking to save the weather magic as they know it in the Weatherlands. The illustrations are gorgeous as ever , Laura Ellen Anderson is a wonderful artist. As fun and funny as this book was, the ending hit me right in the gut. I have been reading these books aloud with my 10 year old and I could barely keep it together. Some real beautiful moments at the end to help talk to kids about death.

I found the beginning to be very slow, but once I reached the halfway point I was hooked! There was twists that I never saw coming, which shocked me and I didn't see coming, especially since I'm about 10 years older than the target audience! Also, who'd have thought that I'd cry at a Middle Grade of all books! Especially when I've only ever cried at 3 books previously!

Am I sobbing while smiling because of this book? Yes I am. This series is literally perfect. Heart wrenching, hopeful, full of friendship and cute as pie cloud creatures. If I could rate this higher I would. Easiest 5 stars I've given in a very long time!

Endlich geht es mit Ria Regenbogen weiter! Da der erste Band ein absolutes Highlight für mich war, musste ich natürlich auch die Fortsetzung unbedingt bei mir einziehen lassen. Auf mein Wiedersehen mit Ria und Co. habe ich mich tierisch gefreut.

Die 10-jährige Ria Grau lebt in den Wetterlanden, eine Welt, die hoch über den Wolken liegt. Bis vor kurzem glaubte sie noch, dass sie ein Wetterling ganz ohne magische Wetterkraft sei, aber inzwischen weiß sie, dass sie eine echte Regenbogenschön ist. Ihr Leben hat sich dadurch ziemlich verändert, aber leicht hat sie es nach wie vor nicht. Ria muss erst noch lernen ihre neue Magie zu kontrollieren und das ist kein Kinderspiel, schließlich besitzt sie nun alle magischen Wetterkräfte. Zum Glück hat sie aber zwei tolle beste Freunde, die immer zu ihr halten, und ihren treuen Wolkenkater Nim. Als plötzlich sämtliche Wolkenwesen zu verschwinden beginnen – auch ihr geliebter Nim – beschuldigt man Ria, dafür verantwortlich zu sein. Um ihre Unschuld zu beweisen und die Wolkenmagie zu retten, begibt sich die junge Regenbogenschön gemeinsam mit ihren Freunden auf die Suche nach dem wahren Übeltäter. Ein neues gefährliches Abenteuer beginnt...

Wie oben bereits erwähnt, handelt es hierbei um den zweiten Teil der Ria Regenbogen-Reihe. Da die Bände aufeinander aufbauen, empfiehlt es sich auf jeden Fall mit dem ersten Band zu starten. Zwingend erforderlich ist es in meinen Augen jedoch nicht. Es gibt mehrere kurze Rückblicke auf die vorangegangenen Ereignisse und vorne im Buch befindet sich sowohl eine Übersicht der wichtigsten Personen als auch eine detaillierte Karte vom Setting. Meinem Empfinden nach sollten daher auch Neueinsteiger gut in die Story hineinfinden.

Nachdem ich Rias erstes Abenteuer so geliebt habe, habe ich mir von ihrem zweiten natürlich sehr viel erhofft und was soll ich sagen, meine Erwartungen konnten komplett erfüllt werden! Laura Ellen Anderson hat mal wieder etwas Bezauberndes aufs Papier gebracht, ein rundum gelungenes Kinderbuch, das wie sein Vorgänger ist: Aufregend, lustig, warmherzig und voller Kreativität, Magie und Überraschungen.

Wie gewohnt gelingt es Laura Ellen Anderson von den ersten Seiten an uns Leser*innen in den Bann zu ziehen und durchgehend zu fesseln und immerzu in Staunen zu versetzen. Mit den Wetterlanden hat die englische Autorin und Illustratorin einfach eine unglaublich fantasievolle Welt erschaffen, in der es wahnsinnig viel zu entdecken gibt. Wundersame Orte wie die Himmelsakademie und den Tann der Temperaturen sowie außergewöhnliche Wesen wie den Wolkenkreaturen. Dem Einfallsreichtum sind in dieser Reihe wirklich keine Grenzen gesetzt. Es gibt witziges Essen wie Nieselfieselsandwiches und Rumpelplunder, auf Pustepuffpartys wird Wolkenpolka gespielt, Regenschöns können pfützportieren...Hier auch wieder ein großes Lob an die beiden Übersetzerinnen Katrin Segerer und Jennifer Michalski, die den Text mit seinen vielen Wortneuschöpfungen so gekonnt ins Deutsche übertragen haben.

Die Charaktere sind ebenfalls wieder wunderbar getroffen und werden so liebevoll beschrieben, dass man sie einfach gernhaben muss, vor allem die sympathische und tapfere Ria schleicht sich sofort in das Leserherz. Aber auch ihr niedlicher, explosiver und fluffig-flauschiger Wolkenkater Nim und ihre besten Freunde Minus Permafrost und Nasstaja Niederschlag sind ganz besonders zauberhafte Figuren. Es macht erneut so viel Spaß sie zu begleiten, Langeweile kommt dabei an keiner Stelle auf. Man fiebert, fühlt und bibbert mit den Kindern mit und ihre innige Freundschaft erwärmt einem so richtig das Herz. Freundschaft und Zusammenhalt wird auch diesmal ganz groß geschrieben und auch der Glaube an sich selbst, Mut, Güte und Entschlossenheit sind unter anderem wichtige Bestandteile der Geschichte.

Für Mädchen und Jungen ab 8 Jahren ist das Buch sehr gut zum Selberlesen geeignet und dank den kurzen Kapiteln und zahlreichen Zeichnungen wird es auch den größten Lesemuffel überzeugen.
Die Illustrationen von Laura Ellen Anderson sind erneut absolut hinreißend und mit viel Witz und Liebe zum Detail gezeichnet. Und obwohl sie nur in schwarz-weiß gehalten sind, passen sie perfekt zu dieser fröhlich-bunten Geschichte und erwecken sie zum Leben.

Auch dieser Band endet recht abgeschlossen, lässt aber genügend Spielraum für eine weitere Fortsetzung. Auf Englisch gibt es diese sogar schon und da hoffe ich nun sehr, dass wir uns auf die deutsche Ausgabe nicht allzu lange gedulden müssen. Auf den dritten Teil freue ich mich schon sehr!

Fazit: Laura Ellen Anderson ist mit „Ria und die Wolkenmagie“ ein weiteres fantastisches Gesamtpaket gelungen, das sämtliche Zutaten vereint, die ein gutes Kinderbuch ausmachen. Auch der zweite Band der Ria Regenbogen-Reihe ist ein magisches, stürmisches und herrlich farbenfrohes Abenteuer voller Freundschaft, Humor, Wortwitz und Herz. Spannend, unterhaltsam, ein bisschen verrückt und unglaublich kreativ und mit vielen tollen Illustrationen. Ein regenbogenschönes Feuerwerk der Fantasie und das beste Lesefutter für alle ab 8 Jahren, die Geschichten mit starken Heldinnen lieben. Mich hat auch dieser Band von Anfang bis Ende begeistern können. Von mit gibt es daher sehr gerne 5 von 5 Sternen!
