“Enjoyed this book with plenty of twists and turns. This murder mystery develops into a unique storyline. Held my interest right to the end.”
“The story has lots of emotional drama and characters have psychological issues which add to the suspense. There’s no gruesome blood and gore which made it a pleasure to read. Kept me hooked to the last word.”
“The relationship between the two sisters is a strength of the novel and provides a good narrative arc as they get into the cannabis operation together, then Grace goes AWOL and Laura travels to Italy to find out what happened. I like the ‘triangle’ of sorts with Sam, the SWAT Guy and the sisters, and how it becomes more complicated than just a relationship story. Heart-warming ending.”
“Webber is good at creating strong character-driven stories that people enjoy reading. Once again, a good story.” “A great story with people who have suffered life’s hardships and battle on. A real roller coaster and emotional read full of fast-paced action. Couldn’t put it down.”

Wow……this book started out with a bang- -no pun intended. I was totally hooked from the first chapter. The plot was thrilling and very well developed. The characters, Sam, Laura and Grace, we’re interested and intriguing. There was so much drama and so many twists. It kept me guessing till the end. There are so many spoilers that I could mention, so I’ll just leave it here! *this was a complimentary copy and this is my honest review*
A story of tragedy, grief and love. Great characters and storyline. Plenty of twists and turns. Just a little longwinded in parts, otherwise an enjoyable read.

I have previously read and loved Nicky Webber's Duplicity, but I have struggled to get into this book, I found the POV used made it hard for me to get into the characters and although the beginning when they were young was dramatic, and I was engaged into the story, it then jumped to a point in time of the two sisters ( not giving spoilers into the details) but it felt like I was reading a different book it didn't seem to flow as well as the beginning.
I felt the younger sister Grace was almost two different characters who couldn't gel together as one.
the older sister, Laura was like this 2-dimensional character who had no personality other than looking after her sister.
The male interest, Sam formed this awkward romantic triangle where Laura found herself attracted to him, but Grace was involved with him although Sam seemed to just consider it a booty call and was just as closed off and hard to understand why he even bothered, as you were kept in the dark about his past for a long time.
It wasn't until it got to 70% that the plot got to a point where I wanted to know what was happening next.
I did like how Nicky Webber incorporated the Covid pandemic but, even being set in rural New Zealand, I have struggled to feel connected or get this book finished.
Thank you to BookSirens and Nicky Webber for allowing me to read the book, and apologies for the delay due to my mums passing and my dad visiting has obviously curtailed my reading time.
This book is about two sisters, Laura and Grace, who went through the unimaginable - losing both parents in an accident at a very young age. They don't have much money and struggle to make it on their own until they come up with a 'side business'. Everything seems to be going well and they are making a lot of money until Grace disappears. Laura decides to go where Grace was last seen in order to investigate and try to find answers.
I felt like this story was very hard to follow at times. It was like there wasn't enough detail or background on the characters to make us feel something for them. Most of the time when one of them felt some type of emotion, I was kind of like ''but why''? It's like it was coming out of nowhere. For instances, at one point Grace is excited to see Sam, only to be fuelled with rage the next second. How did we get from here to there? The information we come to find towards the end of the book was a nice twist, but then again, some of the character development was hard to follow. There were also a couple of typos in the book.

I went into this book with an open mind and I was pleasantly surprised. I loved how the author brought into the pandemic and corporates it into the story so that it felt modern and very current.
I feel like this book was quite hard to follow and I struggled at times to get a grip on what was going to happen next for it to flow. I couldn’t feel attached or feel any connection to the characters except for Laura.
Laura’s character stood out to me the most with her realistic thinking and her having to grow up fast to raise her sibling. I would’ve liked for there to have been less detail about minor things in the story and more detail about the characters and what lead up to the conclusion of this book.
Overall, this book was a fun journey and I’m interested to see what other works this author has.

Two sisters had a bad start in life, their parents died when they were young, and they lived with their aunt and uncle, who did not want them there. They made it out and made a life for themselves on their family farm. One sister goes missing and the other goes to look for her. Even though the story is not bad, I feel there could have been more detail on the disappearance of Grace and what happened to her, instead the focus was on their lives leading up to the disappearance and just a few rushed chapters on the action.
That being said, it was a good story with a nice twist at the end.
This is my first book by this author and probably won't be reading any more. It didn't really hold my interest and I struggled to get through it. At 30% in I still couldn't see where the story was going. It did pick up and get better. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I became engrossed from the very first page and found myself reading well into the night. A story of tragedy, grief and love mixed with a little Kiwi humour. The story came together with an excellent twist at the end that caused me to say aloud, "Ah, so that's why she went!" A good read.
